Love the group, love the premises discussed about the forming of the album… didn’t love the record. This coming from someone who doesn’t want or need them to be the angry, sarcastic post punk guys who made ‘never fight a man with a perm’ and who loved the sonic left turn of crawler. Couple of tracks were alright but the record Didn’t do much of anything for me overall. The writing felt kind of like vapidity posturing as vulnerability. Like they realized the vulnerability was a good selling point and so have leaned further and further into it. Really underwritten, felt like it was made by a band self consciously thinking of how an audience would receive it more than a band making it for its sake or for their own sake. Like they ran out of things to say or no longer remember how to express what they do have to say. Kinda bummed honestly, I really wish I didn’t feel that way but it’s the disappointment of the year so far as far as new records go.
