I’ve just started dancing Lindy Hop, and it’s amazing how our footwork matches perfectly with the jazz rhythms the drummer plays. Your explanation has helped me understand better how to feel the music beat 🥁💃✨
this guy is amazing. it didn't under explain and he didn't over explain , but he made sure we got it. His channel is worth subscribing to. I understood everything in the video. Thank you so much
i think a lot of people overlook that the Beatles used the swing beat, right up through their "Sgt. Pepper's" album: the beat in both "Fixing a Hole" and "Getting Better" is firmly rooted in swing. On a related note, even Van Halen's "So This Is Love" (off their 1981 album "Fair Warning") is also a swing-based song.
Alex Van Halen is one of the best drummers ever. I put him right up their with Bonham, Peart, Cozy Powell etc. As far as Rock drummers I think gets overlooked but his solo on live without a net is phenomenal ! 🥁
Technically - the hi-hat on 2 and 4 beats is known by pop and rock drummers as "backbeating". So basically that is it - you can backbeat in jazz as well as pop and rock.
@@blakelandre2923 start with playing quarters on the ride, and four on the floor, then add the hats, then try playing the 1 2+ 3 4+ once every 4 bars. Like practising a fill, that's how I did it at least
I’m super confused in band I’m a 8 grader hi hat is suppose to be on 2 + 4 and I can’t tell if you are or not but if it’s ok if you reply as soon as possible because I have a jazz concert in 2 days and don’t feel like embracing myself
@@SachaKDrums nice! yeah they def do the job! sound great. I just busted out my first official brush rhythm thanks to your videos! going in one of my tracks :) :)
This guy did a 100x better lesson than the other videos where the drummer does not explain the beats. He explains it to our beginner mind level.
As a drummer that’s played most styles of music for YEARS, this is one that I’ve never touched. Helped a lot, thanks!
I agree I've played just about every style but some reason I stuggle getting the feel. I can play it but I just can't feel it.😥
Same… getting it done now! Let’s get to work!
Do not give up keep doing at tell your hands barke
Really swings. Well demonstrated especially right hand position...

Still need some advice though
