Thank you for introducing me to a couple of new channels and for this great video.
My Brilliant Friend was a good I DNFed, then said to myself, nah give it a second chance and it ended up winning me over... But it is exactly the kind of novel I would rip apart if it wasn't done quite as well as it was.

Hi Shelly. This was a really fun video. I've learned about a few new-to-me booktubers, too, so thank you very much. Thank you, too, for the lovely things that you said about me as a teacher and as a booktuber. So kind of you. Your ongoing conflict (that's too strong a word; it's not really a conflict, but you know what I mean) with Scott was described in a really humorous and even endearing way. The respect that you both feel for each other is apparent first and foremost. I was very interested in your thoughts about readers' different attitudes toward North Woods. I think that I did ultimately see it as one continuous story, but I'm not sure that I saw it that way initially. I read it twice for two different purposes, and yes, I think I did ultimately see it as one continuous story where all of earliest characters continued and made themselves present throughout time. I thought it was an incredibly intricate narrative. It stayed with me for a long time, and I kept thinking about it long after my second reading of it. I do think that Everett's JAMES was probably the most important work of fiction that I read this year, and I'm glad that it is now getting the attention that it deserves. But it wasn't my favorite reading experience (so it's my #2 rather than my #1); my no. 1 ranking went to the Irish novel, The Queen of Dirt Island, which spoke to me on a deeply personal level and also led to my reading several other novels by Donal Ryan, who was new to me. But I do think that JAMES is probably the most important American novel of the year, and I don't usually speak in terms of superlatives like that. Anyway, this was a really interesting and fun video. Thanks for including me, and again, thank you for being so kind about what I'm trying to do here. I hope that you are having a lovely holiday season, and I'm wishing you all good things in the new year!

I laughed so hard when I heard Scott describe you a while back as his ‘nemesis’ and ‘frenemy’.
I laughed even harder at your reaction here.
    Priceless!

I tend to be on your side in the Scott/Shelly debates but I thought Ordinary Human Failings was really well done, and I usually hate modern literary fiction. I loved I Who Have Never Known Men and My Beautiful Friend too. I agree with Kindred, it is a decent book but overhyped.

I know what you mean about the “romance” in The Safekeep. It didn’t feel authentic and the “spicy bits” felt out of place and went on too long.
REREAD THE RAVEN CYCLE!!! It’s even better when you know what’s coming. You’ll notice the quality of Maggie’s writing in the dialogue and characters and somehow feel the story more 🖤
