    I have one male and one female red factor canary for about 2 1/2 years now. They are in separate cages. I don’t want to breed them . Just want them to be healthy and happy. .The male has never sung. He is peach colored and loves to bathe daily. My female is typical red factor rust red brown feathers. She doesn’t bathe. He looks great . She looks messy and no long tail feathers . Chubby. Just sits on perch’s and I’ll move her to other perch’s or she doesn’t jump to all food dishes on her own. They get natural sunlight through large sliding glass doors. Artificial light ,too. We uncover cages around sun up and cover cages around 9:00 pm. Their daily diet consists of advanced nutrition canary mix seed and grain., fruit blend small pellets, eggfood, abba Ralf red. Abba green veggie blend. Abba canary treat and song food. Fresh water always. What am I doing wrong. ? Hope you can give me some advice. Wish I knew how to send photos of them to you. Live in NJ and avian vets are hard to come by. Thank you

      I’ve been doing my research & saw your comment! My male canary didn’t sing for nothing I had him for a solid year until I got a female for him and out of nowhere he was singing all day!! I was really worried he wasn’t going to sing but I play Opera movie and he loves it lol. Im also from Jersey I try my best to get advice from pet store owners/TH-cam

    Hi birdnerd :-), ¿Is it normal in a canary to go fluppy (puffed up feathers with a messy look as sick) and apathetic during the molting season?

    • @birdnerd
      @birdnerd  ปีที่แล้ว

      They may be sick. You could try a broad spectrum antibiotic and provide some heat for them.

      @@birdnerd ok. Earlier it had airsac mites so I had it medicated (ivermectin) and later it went into molting. Yet despite its molting, the canary seems better, eats, drinks and BATHES ALMOST EVERY DAY, but it stay calm and quiet while the other canary is always jumping and chirping. It Is rare to hear it chirp.

      @@elkejohanna8611 hmm yeah it could be something else with its health. Sometimes when birds get air sack mites it can effect it’s vocal cords and the birds don’t chirp or sing as much.

      @@birdnerd luckily i have treated the canary with Ivermectin drop un it's neck but he stills sneezing a little though. I hope it's because of the molting because I have reading that during molting canaries tend to have these symptoms

      I had them posted on my website but with COVID the seller has stopped selling them. I am trying to find more places that sell them

    Hi Chris. My female is molting and has been shaking. Is shaking part of molting too?

    I have a canary. My very first one ever. So I’m new to this. I’ve had her for about four months now. I’m concerned because she’s either going through a molt, or she’s plucking. I can’t tell. She’s also losing some of her long tail feathers. I’m watching video after video trying to figure this out.

      Sounds like she may be molting give her another couple of months. Make sure to provide a shallow dish with water so that she can bathe. That will help her new feathers

      You can mate her with a normal
      Male but your babies will not be as big as your female.
