Did you know that Wallflower not only is it a type of plant but, it's a term for a person with an introverted personalty (or with social anxiety) ? A Wallflower person is a type of person who will attend parties and social gatherings but will distance themselves from the crowd. I think that her name really reflects upon Wallflower Blushes personality.
I think people are more likely to know the introverted meaning of wallflower than the actual plant. XD Like I knew what a wallflower at a dance was, but if I saw a picture of one of the actual plants, I wouldn't have been able to name it. Unless they're a common flower where you are, you're more likely to know the alternate definition.
Night Shade It's not your place to teach them. If people are going to learn, it needs to count. You should be reported for harassment, if it will do any good. Because that is what you're doing, regardless of your intentions. You could really hurt people. For all you know, someone you insulted was on the brink of a mental breakdown or even suicide.
Thanks for that info. I've never heard of the plant and thought the party goer was being compared to a generic vine growing against a wall. Now I've learned something.
I admit, seeing Sunset without any of her memories and once more thinking she was a pony was... heartbreaking. I could feel the terror that she must have been going through. The only thing I have to question with this is... does that mean that Sunset didn't go through the portal willingly? That she was physically banished there by Celestia? It sure seems that way. Sunset didn't act upset or angry, or that she was betrayed. She was scared.
I don't think she was banished. My interpretation was that the memories she lost didn't just include her time in the human world but also entering the portal to go there, so even if she remembers deciding to leave she still would have (as far as she was concerned) just been transported and transformed in an instant without understanding how. Celestia didn't seem to know exactly what the other world was like, so Sunset probably didn't either and probably had a similar reaction to Twilight the first time she went through. Suddenly finding herself with the body of some creature she can't even identify would be bad enough, but that happening without her remembering entering the portal would be utterly terrifying.
Given the "mechanics" of the stone (and the specific "wish" Wallflower said), Sunset Shimmer´s memories of anything related to "highschool" were erased [meaning everything from the EQG world, including the mirror she used to access it and the reasons to use it]; but NOT her recent encounter with Celestia (specifically, she can remember anything she saw and feel while Twilight was behind her, out of her sight). -> In other words, she thinks that she got mad to Celestia for something but then changed and asked forgiveness (with Celestia giving her a hug); then BAM! she is in some weird place with an ever weirder body and other weird creatures around her touching her and saying they are her friends but also that they do not remember her [plus something of a "sacrifice" she aparently did that she can not remember either...]
I have an idea on why she reacted like that. I’m thinking that from the moment she got to the world she focused on assimilating and noticed the five friends. She would then focus on splitting them up for reasons unknown. It’s a long shot I know but what if from the moment she got there her life revolves around the five girls? Just spitballing
Of course Celestia didn't have a sense of humor when she knew her. It was still Nightmare Moon time and she was lamenting over her sister. If Celestia lightened up it was probably because of her sister returning and a release of the guilt associated with that.
I'm surprise you didn't bring up when Sunset protected her friends at the cost of her own memories, that when the memories of her friends were pulled out she was completely confused and scared. Yeah it seems that stone took all her memories back during her time in Canterlot as Celestia's student, and not even being human... Yikes!!! Sunset is awesome and brave.
That and her friends reactions to her losing those memories, beging twilight not to forget her, and seeing wallflower see the consequences of her actions? That was all *kiss sound* done perfectly! You can tell they're all deeply unsettled by this and how sunset is acting. Just... Wow. She's pretty brave while making Wallflower still a girl who got in over her head. My only question? *How did Wallflower read that message?!*
I have an idea on why she reacted like that. I’m thinking that from the moment she got to the world she focused on assimilating and noticed the five friends. She would then focus on splitting them up for reasons unknown. It’s a long shot I know but what if from the moment she got there her life revolves around the five girls? Just spitballing But yeah no that scene was DARK. It gave me chills.
I really liked this special as well. I know that the franchise will most likely forget Wallflower Blush, but the fans won't. One way I think Wallflower can have some longevity as a character would be if we got something where Wallflower is the primary focus. Be it a really good toy, a micro series or book, or even a single short on TH-cam, as long as there is a follow-up Wallflower will not be forgotten. It can even be a fan-project!
PRECISELY!! I *love* 'Forgotten Friendship', but it woulda been really nice to have the Mane 6's human counterparts try to figure out what;s going on as a parallel to Sunset Shimmer's own attempts, then at end those 2 subplots intertwine into an awesome finale.
An' YUP, the rest of Humane 7 interacting with Wallfower Blush would be awesome!! *grinning Pinkie Pie-style, jumps up & down in excitement at the idea*
Fascinating insight on Celestia's change in behavior. If Sunset's abandonment was indeed the catalyst for that shift, I very much hope we'll see these characters address it someday :)
It is worth noting the depth of emotion Celestia had at the end of the EG movie. Twilight had just come back through the mirror with her crown and Celestia's first concern was about how Sunset was. It came across more maternal than mentor/student. In Friendship lost, Celestia was more guarded and prepared as word most likely got back to her about Sunset's arrival before they arrived at the castle.
Basically, she railroaded them in one of her Glass of Water videos about how Dr.Wolf's response to the Toonkriticy2k thing was wrong. Silver Quill wrote the script for the video, so she blasted Silver Quill about it too.
Answering one of your last questions with one of my own. Is it possible that Princess Celestia had been hardened by the absence of her Sister on the Moon and it took the lesson of Sunset's failure to wake her up to the reality of what she had become this setting the table for redemption with Twilight as another chance?
@@glitchedquill575 she/he meant that celestia was depressed and trying to get better but felt sunset was her failure when she left . So she took twilight was a second chance and felt alot better with luna back.
By now I think the series has the same draw and appeal as Sailor Moon and other Magical Girl anime. Magical Girl anime is in fact it's own sort of genre in anime. It usually is about high school life featuring a mostly female cast, who occasionally have to save the world with magical powers.
One thing that I'm not so fond of is that Sunset is often pulled back from making a strong stance. Here it happens but even more so in Friendship Games when I felt she was totally in the right when she scolded Twilight for meddling with powers she was completely clueless about. I feel it stops her from bringing her best as that is her strongest element; She's very intelligent, very thoughtful, very brave and wants to make the world a better place.
9:06 My theory of Celestia, is that she used be a stuck up princess who took everything seriously, almost like a responsible clique queen. But, after she has lost her sister, she had realized the consequences of her actions and behavior (because she neglected her sister and worried more about Equestria) , and decided to change for the great or good, thus seeing the Celestia we see today.
Do love the Celestia bit. Personal thoughts, is that she's always had her trollish side to her, but with Sunset, she knew the chance to restore Luna was getting close, and Sunset might be her best hope of that, so it caused her to push her harder, and be more rigid and serious then she normally would be. Did love the special for all the stuff you mentioned and more.... except Wallflower. Sorry, I just found her to be, while not the worst villain/antagonist, the only 'redeemable' one that I felt zero sympathy for at all. I get how being overlooked, ignored, forgotten can hurt, why she'd be upset and driven to do something. I do not get how any of that logically (Even in a twisted sense) leads to 'Erase all the good memories about someone because Senpai won't notice me'. Especially given, you know, it's all her own damn fault for erasing everyone's memories of herself in the first place. Also the way they handled the moral came off really creepy to me, mostly saying "If you don't go out of your way to be the best friend of every single person in existence, even if you literally do not know they exist, they are perfectly justified in thinking you are a massive bitch and it's your fault."
I knew someone would agree with me did not like that lesson at all very off putting if they had kept everything exactly the same but just put the lesson as you have to be vulnerable in order to make friends it would’ve been much better since it was never in the wrong in this entire thing she got a little angry at anyone would if they were being messed with with magic against their will
I don't know. I'd like to see this show go into a monster of the week format like Danny Phantom, Ben 10, or Sailor Moon. The set up at the end of camp Everfree opens itself up to it. It would be a good excuse to bring the Dazzlings back.
@9:28, Actually Silver, I think you are right about Celestia. Perhaps between Sunset and Twilight, She asked herself if her expectations and or rigidness was part of the problem. So working with Twilight had help her change to become a better princess
There's another thing I realized while watching this special. Even if all the good memories they had of Sunset were erased, they should still have been willing to hear her out or something. They're good memories didn't include Princess Twilight asking them to look out for Sunset, right? Another bit of a plothole there to go along with the fact they should all have found their many phone photos of Sunset as their friend, yet somehow didn't
Silver, I'd really like to hear what you think of Clover the Clever after this special. We learned quite a surprising bit about Clover from this special when I doubt anyone was expecting a reference to him at all. Heck, I'm pretty sure there were quite a few who were surprised to learn that Clover was a stallion rather than a mare like we were all led to believe. Yes, in case you did miss it, Twilight does confirm Clover as a male as she refers to him as a male. I was rather shocked by this little bit about Clover's gender alone but everything else we learned only added on to the mystery of Clover the Clever. Thinking back on how the community regarded Clover in the past, Clover wasn't somepony anypony really cared to learn more about or discuss (from what I've seen, at least). Clover always seemed to overshadowed by his teacher Starswirl the Bearded and we all seemed content having his legend carry no further out of the story of Hearthswarming Hooves. That makes me rather sad. All this time we were so focused on the mystery of the master that we completely neglected the student. However, with the mystery of Starswirl finally coming to a close in the latest season finale and the mysteries uncovered in this special, it makes me wonder if the series will now focus on Clover the Clever as the big mystery pony like it did with Starswirl. I hope so, as I'd love to learn more about him after seeing this.
Midnight☪Wonder I do know of a fanfic that tried to focus on Clover (though obviously while we were all still under the impression Clover was a mare). It's called I Am Demon. Astro Brony did a reading of it. Even with the reveal Clover was a stallion, it's still a good fic and a fun reading to listen to
Clover was referred too as a He in some of the books, I think even in the Journal of the Sisters. So a few of us already knew, but its fun to see the reactions from people who don't read. Like watching the Red Wedding all over again.
I also found the fun trivia about Clover the Clever. Unlike almost every fan thought, Clover is actually a stallion, not a mare. When Twilight is talking about Clover going after the sorceress, she is using male pronouns to describe Clover. Just a fun bit of trivia that I thought was interesting.
Really? Hopefully that’s true. It’s is better if some of the founders of Equestria are male. I really hope we would see what they would look like at some point. The references to Cloving and Changelor Puddinhead in this one were great.
It's like Commender Hurricane : in the Hearth's Warming episode, the mane six use the "she" pronoun to describe Hurricane in the play because the character is played by Rainbow Dash who is a mare, but Hurricane is actually a stallion.
I can sympathize with Wallflower Blush, because I know people who had the fear of being forgotten, and what's worse is that I try to help those lonely people, but they didn't care since they wanted their friends to come back, and I wasn't their friend, and that fear eventually came to me, at times people will change, and I change as well, when we all change, no one would recognize you or me, and that's what I feared, being changed so much that I would be forgotten, but if there's something Coco taught me is that memories can be passed down, and if one who remembers pass down memories to one who don't remember, the cycle of recognition will last, and I never fear of being forgotten ever again
honestly they have WAY BETTER magical girl costumes in this feature, than in Legends of Everfree. seriously i get eye sores just looking at those costumes, at least these ones look nice & balanced.
Couldn't agree more. They look much better and represent the characters personalities more clearly. My only nipick is Twilight's which has more of a magic theme rather than a science one.
*+23 GameOverlord* I concur, with the exception of Sunset, Rarity, and Applejack. Those three from Legend of Everfree looked wonderful, with Sunset's outfit makes me think of an empress.
bingo! i HATED Rainbows old super suit, those jagged wings were--and the barrage of colors--it looked the 70's just dumped neon paint, stuck in some swords and said SUPER SUIT. same thing with sci-Twi's costume and her wings and those...what were they goggles or a visor? Pinkie's & Fluttershy's costumes were....meh.
i liked AJ's (best pony!) its simple, but it looks lovely, it was dress like yet it looked like something like a farmer would wear. on another note i LOVE the human 7's regular clothes, more diverse in appearance. personally i like Rainbow's, AJ's & Pinkie's new clothes, Sci-Ti has a cute outfit. but what i'm really grateful they got rid of.... WAS THE FUCKING KNEE-HIGH BOOTS!!!!!!!! LIKE WHAT WAS THOUGHT PROCCESS BEHIND THOSE THINGS! sorry its just a nitpick that just triggers me.
This was probably one of the most worthwhile videos I have ever watched from you. The depth actually mimics the same depth that I thought about when watching and it is great to see the amazing logic and storytelling expertise that you yield and produce. Often but exemplified in this, I wonder how the show were to improve if you were harnessed as an adviser on the staff of MLP and gave them context on tools that could be harnessed to attract all audiences. In a way, I guess I am saying you are the most eccentric and solid minded fan I have met, one who is able to fully contemplate and see every side of an episode rather than lashing out and discussing a topic that affected your love of the show or a personal quirk. I look forward to your next installment.
It was really good. Plus the episode addressed something that I’ve been dealing with my entire life and it was nice to see that I’m not the only one who has that problem. Even if the character if fictional, it still hit close to home. Great job writers!
Celestia's behavior has always been a roller coaster. In the Journal of 2 Sisters she was a lot like Twilight: smart, talented, but more importantly curious and wondering. The MLP IDW comics (Legends of Magic) showed that sometime after the Journal of the 2 sisters she became egotistical as her studies with Star Swirl continued. She was constantly having to wait for Luna to catch up on simple spells and resorted to belittling her as a means to encourage her; but it only made things worse. The bullied Luna retaliated by performing a spell that Celestia couldn't - a dimensional door. Luna was soon captured by a disembodied voice that tried to influence her to destroy Celestia, take over Equestria, and become Nightmare Moon. Celestia would eventually save Luna from the dark forest dimension but it was dramatic and tragic for her: she failed to save Luna from being pulled in against her will, Star Swirl scolded her bullying Luna, and unbeknownst to her the evil voice had latched itself to Luna - who would be influenced over time to give in and become evil. Celestia tried to shed that bullying side by becoming friendlier, but her indulgence into her new persona blinded her to Luna's neglect. After banishing Luna Celestia sought to change Equestria's view of her a serious sole ruler to a fun-loving caretaker by creating "Laughalot", a yearly comedy show where she made a fool of herself so ponies wouldn't accuse her of one day becoming like Nightmare Moon. Sunset is also not the only student she has failed; Radiant Hope was her first student that she failed in coping with the loss of Sombra and the Crystal Empire because she couldn't understand how Hope felt at that time ... resulting in Hope returning 1000 years later as a brainwashed pawn of the Umbrum alongside Sombra (now reformed) ... much like Fizzlepop Berrytwist/Tempest Shadow was used by the Storm King. Despite living a long time she doesn't have the luxury of life that normal ponies have; it's similar to how Brad Pitt's Achilles said in the Movie "Troy" - that the Gods envy mortal life because their actions define their legacy as Gods can change legacies due to their immortality and therefore will never be viewed or remembered as such. This is what makes Twilight her most special student; she's just like young Celestia but has a normal life that she can expand in ways Celestia couldn't due to her unhappiness at the crown taking everything from her: her sister, true connections, etc.
I'm a little sad that no one talks about the fact that the memory removing scene with Sunset was freaking TERRIFYING! Seriously, her screams were PAINFUL! She sounded as if this thing was literally DRILLING into her head and ripping the memories out physically! She sounded terrified! HOW THE HELL IS NO ONE TALKING ABOUT THIS!?
I would totally like to see EqG go a more magical girl route than the slice of life shorts that we've been getting. Star Swirl pretty much dumped the pony of shadows into their world so that could be a decent antagonist.
You make a good point about the Humane 6's memories, I myself was questioning exactly what was altered in their minds and how rationalization was done. I myself also enjoyed this because we finally have a special/film focused on Sunset again as Human Twilight was the MC for movie 3 and 4, and Sunset was not exactly important in the first 2 magic specials and in special 3 Mirror Magic where we expected her to be important she wasn't instead we got more scene stealing from the most isolationist and divisive OP character.
I notice that Sunset seems to still be a more pragmatic character. her first instinct to any opposition is still violence, and physical altercation. Contrast that to twilight, who started out the same way (She didn't expect Nightmare moon, or Discord to be reformed) But now Twilight has been learning that there's other ways to rid yourself of enemies. By turning them into allies. We see her express this perfectly with Starlight, and it's re-affirmed with Stigeon. She may be advanced in her friendship knowledge, but she still has a long way to go. I'm somewhat disappointed in EQG as a whole. It could be something very special that deals with modern problems, and tries to make compelling morals for kids about technology excess, or cyber-bullying. Instead, most of these are the generic "Evil team of whatevers, training montage, yay, good guys win" and all of the movies are just "Evil bad guy faffs around for a couple hours as the good guys get their act together, and do the laser thing" It also has a tendency to cling to the original show. They can't just have their own things happen, it's always because of equestrian magic, or something like that. Also in all of these things they've made, why is there only three ponies to cross the mirror, but no humans? I wanna see the humane6 try and wrap their mind around being a pony, and seeing a world of magic. I want to see Rarity, and Twilight try to use magic for the first time. Maybe some of them won't want to go back, and there's conflict in tracking them down as they run away.
You bring up a good part about the memory stone. The fact that it can erase certain parts of someone's memories is very interesting, but it does leave a number of loopholes. For example; Sci-Twi mentioned that she only met Sunset once when she yelled at her at the Friendship Games. OK, but remember why Sunset yelled at Sci-Twi, it was because she was using magic she didn't understand and she almost got her friends killed (even thought she didn't mean for that to happen). So based on that, don't you think either Sci-Twi or the others would question why Sunset would defend them if they aren't friends? Not onle that, but Rarity calls Sunset's geode a knockoff. So what do they think happened at Camp Everfree? It's a little confusing to say the least.
One major gripe I have with this special, is everyone of the Mane 7 forgot to do one thing. Ask. Spike. And I mean the Equestria Girls dog, not the dragon. We never saw his memory get whiped when Sunset did her "look into someone's thoughts through touch" thing, so that leads me to make an assumption that Spike would have known that Sunset was nice, and is friends with the rest of the Mane 7. But not one of them, not even Sunset, looked to him for aid. If Spike had told the others that he remembers her being nice and that she is friends with them, and I think this would lead the girls to question how they could not remember it, and still have the trip to the pony realm fit. I honestly think that Wallflower wouldn't have accounted for the Spike the Dog when wiping everyone's memories of Sunset being nice. She was probably focused on the students and the school faculty. Spike is neither. A smaller gripe I have, is when Trixie mentions that Sunset is President of the Yearbook committee, and the girls can't recall anything about Sunset's good deeds, I would think Trixie mentioning such a thing would send up a warning flag that something is up with their memories, cause, if they were all on the committee, then I would think that they would make sure that she didn't get a place, much less be the president. And even being pushy and manipulative as she was in the first movie, I don't think should get away with such a thing.
Vengirni He was busy chowing down on dog food. That's the clever, and rather cheesy scapegoat that the staff put in. But still, neither Sunset, nor the rest of the Mane 7 looked to him to settle wheter or not something was wrong with everyone's memories.
Vengirni Okay, I'll give you that, but at the same time, they cut to a close up to put him out of scene, and right there he could be trying to state something, but gets overshadowed by the girls arguing.
About Celestia. I think she became more loose and funny because of Luna returning. Her sister after 1000 years is finally back. I could imagine how happy it made her. I know change doesn't happen that quickly but it's something I guess...
Mr. Quill, I'm not a fan of Mlp, but I love your videos. I don't know why you get give me a lot of food for thought and your humor is amazing. I stumbled upon your channel while I was looking for something just to listen to while drawing, but I started watching and wondering. I really am curious about mlp now but may not watch it anytime soon. I really do enjoy your videos through, I find myself quoting you and more and more watching mlp analyst such as Firebrand and Inkrose, who also make me think. So thank you. I found myself enjoying something I never thought I'd be into. Plus your vioce it really calming.
In every one these longer things apart form Dance Magic and Movie Magic Equestria is important. And Sunset went back once already in Mirror Magic. So it’s not something new.
Coming back to this video after three years, Silver’s words at 8:05 ring sadly true. At the time, this special helped Wallflower really stand out to us, but nowadays with G5 already here and all G4 content in the past, there is no hope that she will be brought back into the series. I also feel her impact in the audience has been lost since 2018, which is sad cause I really appreciated her back then. I even forgot about her throughout the years. I hope at least someone will remember this sweet girl, despite her mistakes and sad role as just another antagonist in Equestria Girls.
I would like to see Celestia again being a little more graceful and serene. We haven't seen her be wise and impressive much recently. I just really enjoy Celestia looking majestic and impressive, maybe more than I like watching her have fun.
Sci-Twi stands out more than the other five to me. She is the one showing the doubt about what has happened and is the one Sunset is freaked out not remembering her.
Didn't a comic book talk about Celestia's funny side? It said that after Nightmare Moon scared everypony, Celestia held a banquet called The Chuckle-Lot, to show the ponies that she wasn't always serious. I know the comics aren't completely canon, but there is always a little bit of the canon there. I don't know. I'm not as good at interpretating comic books as I am real books. (Like those 500 page ones are my favorite!)
To me, Princess Twilight is a better character to play off Sunset than SciTwi due to there begin more equality between the characters. While Sunset is often a mentor character to SciTwi, she and PriTwi are more old friends who've been through a lot together. This allows Sunset to be more of a friendly foil to PriTwi and makes for a stronger dynamic between the two of them.
The difference between those other villains and this one is she goes to Canterlot High. She is already apart of the main setting and thus won’t be forgotten even if it’s just background appearances. That is, if there is any more Equestria Girls stuff left after this. It is very possible this was the finale of this spin off (which I hope isn’t the case as I would like to see some Equestria Girls stuff in 2019 and have them try and go out with another movie). But if this is the end of EQG, we are now looking at the Holiday special and 52 more episodes of FIM. And from there i’m just going to live off the reviewers for a few years as they catch up on the episodes. Then, i’ll move onto something else (G5 just isn’t for me).
thebeav Percabeth I thought that was just another short. Oh well, the more Gen 4 stuff packed into this and next year, the better. With all that and the 4 comic lines containing over a hundred more stories, I think I'll survive.
Jake Pulley I honestly hope they do some kind of special or movie at some point that fleshes out Flash's character. I'm kind of getting tired of the hate.
Legand of everfree next please! Eh.. I honestly liked Juniper. I also love how horrified everyone was when sunset was having her memories forcibly removed. Even Wallflower Blush was horrified. That look of "holy crap! This... This isn't what I thought it would be like!"
While this is just a head canon, anyone want to bet that Luna's banishment affected Celestia more then she's let on. Making her someone who was cold, stern, and rarely shown emotion, and if Sunset's actions (if the Fall of Sunset Shimmer is her canon origin) being an arrogent ambitious pony who saw herself destined for greatness and couldn't wait, and betrayed her mentor when she felt like she was being held back, either changed Celestia's attitude or only served to make her colder and harsher and it wasn't until Ponies began to react to her with fear rather then love that she finally changed
Arin lewis Agreed, when i first saw them i was like:"What?! no, why would you change them" some of these new ones look even worse than the previous ones. Sure some of the old ones were a bit overdesigned but at least they seemed practicle to use in a fight but these.....they're just bad.
@MLP-Silver-Quill I am eager to hear the full review cause wow this was a great special and you got your wish with Sunset! You called it to a degree. :)
8:33 Palpatine: “Ironic.” Wallflower might be forgotten as far as screen time, but the HuMane 6 don’t necessarily need to stay tight with her, provided they give her the means to make her own way in the world. I absolutely LOVED them showing Sunset’s fiery anger!
I just realized she made her own problem! When she made a mistake she erased the memory of it from everyone, including herself! And since she couldn't remember it, she would make the exact same mistake multiple times, and with her anxiety she might just think she made a mistake, that's why nobody knows her, almost all encounters with her are erased. Everyone in the school glances over her because she erased her impact!
I think when Princess Celestia was Teaching Sunset, Celestia was more focused on getting her sister back and missed giving Sunset the one thing she needed if the rumors are true that Sunset is an orphan. Love and trust. And I think Sunset betrayal was a hurt Celestia more than we know. I think Sunset betrayal was so similar to Luna's betrayal I think it broke Celestia and she had given up hope knowing she would fail again to save her sister. I think the elements saw Celestia changing and brought a gift to her Twilight Sparkle
I'm go glad that Celestia and Sunset would make up, heck that was years ago and i was worried it wasn't going to even happen. But now we see its going to happen and to think Celestia has come so far in that show i can't wait see it:P
I must say that when sunset’s memories were taken of the human world it shows all she has know was high school due to wall flower only trying to get rid of high school memories and don’t you think there is a high school in pony equestria so another large chunk taken out only to leave person studies. Also the most recent memory of non high school origins was in the throne room and a libary in the pony world so of course she would be scared see weird bibedal walkers type creatures and see she is one also and I forgot where I was going with this
I am curious about the unedited youtube version. I've heard people saying it will be broken up into 5 10 min. parts. If that is the case, I worry the extra 6 min. will simply be intro and outro for each part. I really did like the special. I loved the self referential jokes and I really liked how Sci-Twi was even going so far as to do magic girl poses with her hands before Pinkie interrupted her. I like how we had conformation Princess Twilight is best teacher via Sunset Shimmer lol. I also felt Wallflower Blush was the most relatable of villains.
Nick Confalone said on twitter that the original version of the special was 5 10 minute episodes. They cut out 6 minutes of it to fit it into a 1 hour special. He said they intend to release the full version on TH-cam later.
humm well considering the season finale revealed star swirl the bearded as celesta teacher, I'm guessing some of his gruffness rubbed off on her. would also add some more back story to why Luna became nightmare moon. you always give me something to think about as well as a good laugh. thanks silver
The restricted section of the library could have a mundane explanation. My local library has a section with limited access. The reason for this is that the books contained in it are very old and falling apart. I can't vouch for what knowledge the books hold. Just, they're there if they're needed, and may contain insights that their writers possessed, being part of the past and holding historical perspectives. Very familiar, even if it's not very magical.
Whoof. Speak of the devil, and the devil shows up. That section of my local library fell into disrepair, and thieves and vandals made off with chunks of the collection. www.post-gazette.com/ae/books/2018/04/04/Carnegie-Library-rare-books-stolen-appraisers-1991-report-pittsburgh/stories/201804030009
9:07 I always assumed Celestia "lightened up" after finally reuniting with her sister after a 1000 years... But you're right, it could have been an earlier change due to Sunset leaving. I mean, Celestia did some trolling on Twilight in episode 1 when she told her to "stop reading those dusty old books" in a letter ;)
You were saying how Celestia may have been different when Sunset was her pupil and I think the best explanation for her being a much more serious teacher at the time was due to the absence of Luna. It's just a theory though. I love your videos so please upload again soon :-D
Also, something weird I have to bring up...how much time has passed since Sunset left Equestria the first time? If thirty moons in two and a half years on both sides of the mirror, that makes little sense. That would mean that Twilight might have been Celestia's student for only a year and a half before she left for Ponyville (which season 1 and 7 would contradict as she was teaching her at a young age). I like the idea that the mirror might have aged Sunset to be more of a middle schooler and that it had been more likely five years since she returned to Equestria instead of 2 and a half years. Gives more time for Twilight to be Celestia's student and makes more sense on maybe the mental state of Sunset when she lost her memories (maybe taking more than just high school away from her). Also, Sunset's line about Celestia made me think that there might be some fault on her part for how Sunset used to be.
I can't remember if they made the joke before about the songs, but this one definitely stands out with saying "Yes, the songs take place in real time and stuff actually happens while the characters are singing." Now all that needs to happen is a full discussion between characters on why they just accept sudden outbursts of song is normal.
As an introvert, yeah. I don't know, get the green peace kids talking about it because "Green peace = weed" joke, they can point out what society thinks is normal and question it, man. Like, why are our eyes so big, man?
I’m so glad someone finally pointed out that there were some loose ends with the main 6 and not figuring that something was off with their memories and the events that happened. It’s honestly the only question I wish was answered.
4:42 The Guess the EQG Mane 6 just didn’t care and were to busy with their stupid photo to care. Which makes them jerks and that’ disappointing. Trixie was get in this special! They should hangout with her more!
my favorite part was Sunset Shimmer looking at picture of the main 6 when Trixie was talking about giving up. Shimmer immediately figured out she could use Trixie's friendship to teleport them. that be a neat season gimmick for Equestria Girls using developing friendships with secondary and background charaters in a way that allows secondary and background charaters to use their own magic abilities.
I am more intrigued by the forbidden part of the library. Is it possible that Equestria is a false utopia? The library housing banned literature that paints Equestria in a different light! Fanfiction writers to your pens!
Any of the possible banned literatures that the library houses. The reasoning behind banning them can be numerous from too violent, too profane, or literature that tells a different history than we are taught. Question is, is Canterlot Cannibals fiction or nonfiction? If it is fiction it may be too violent for society, if it is nonfiction it may paint Canterlot in a negative light. The book on laws from the old times may show a more dictatorial rule which contradicts what they were taught in school. There may be records of Equestria's conquests showing that they were a war like society that leveled out, but that is not the narrative that is taught to the ponies of Equestria. The possibilities are quite limitless when they have an entire section of restricted and banned books.
*+Quentin Brandt* An interesting point, and while I concur that My Little Pony explicitly mentioning cannibalism would be awesome, I doubt they would go that far. My guess is that they meant what I said earlier - Canterlot *Cantabiles* - and just didn't put enough emphasis on the 't'.
True but, there are reasons one restricts books, and as I said in the original post this is more fore fanfiction ideas than anything else. What books would the feel need to be restricted, who restricted them, why did the restrict them. The possibilities for good fanfiction are endless, as banned books usually have the most interesting histories. Even in real life books get banned all of the time such as Catcher in the Rye being the most famous example.
I mean if you want to get attention actually try standing out in the crowd instead of blaming others for not noticing you. I mean Fluttershy lives up to her name sake and you don't see her ruining peoples lives. Hell Fluttershy has more of a reason to want revenge against Sunset.
I'd bet a good deal that the whole Celestia lacking a sense of humor thing was changed by Luna's return. It just makes sense to me that she was miserable with the knowledge of what she'd done to her sister as well as her imminent return. It also makes sense that, with that huge weight off her shoulders, she'd gradually become a little more cheerful and, occasionally, irreverent.
Funny you should mention Star Trek quotes, I was reminded of another one: "I don't WANT my pain taken away, I NEED my pain! It's our pain that makes us who we are!" James Kirk, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier Also, STILL waiting on that explanation of where the human world Sunset is...
I still wished sunset returned to the pony world forever. The EG universe is kinda boring. And it just makes sense to me personally if the story did evolve around that due to , before human twilight came. And it was just pony twilight. Sunset and pony twilight have a great bond. And I like how they mirrored Luna and celestia. Sun and moon, sunset and twilight. And how the “ sun” counter part went evil this time. It would have been nice seeing sunset and celestia mending their bond. Sunset getting along great with Luna with trying to make amends. Idk I can go on and on. It just seemed perfect to me. ( and less sad for twilight who’s friends all died because she’s immortal now. At least she would of had sunset being immortal with her.)
Yeah. The magical girls connection is pretty obvious. I don't know if it influenced their choices in this franchise, or if it was just to sell dolls, but I do like it. From what I've heard, this is why EQG is actually more popular in Japan than MLP. It's led some of us to wonder if there will ever be an anime remake of either of these shows. Some fans have already made some very creative works about this. th-cam.com/video/vpGZY3fJjZ0/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/JSLZiQd3irI/w-d-xo.html
well the EQG 'universe' is not fantasy based. mostly. it's like 10 or 15% Fantasy with the magic and the rest is normal. also the EQG 6 + Sunset aren't wizards, sorceresses their teens with magic given to them via magical object. so yeah that's the basic of a magic girl angle. if Hasbro decides to make a EQG series with it's take on how now that magic is seeping into their world, more people are being corrupted and its up to Sunset & her friends to save the day while also solving a mystery on how the bad guy of the day or arc became who he is and where the magic came from.
Don't mind him. He's not worth it. The only thing I might suggest is pressing the harassment button on him. I've been doing that, because he's been trolling everybody here.
The Sheikah tribe from the Legend of Zelda call it the mind's eye. Makes sense in my opinion. The Sheikah ninja tend to be some of the wisest characters in the franchise, especially Impa. Objects with this eye like the Mask of Truth and Gossip Stones are all for the purpose of providing information to guide Link through the game.
Well, youv e swayed my opinion even further into the positive with this special. After watching it the first time, I just thought it was okay, but you diving into it further definitely makes me appreciate it more and rate it higher than I originally did. Hopefully the extended cut will raise the rating that much higher.
Great video, nice to hear your opinion on more recent episodes xD Personally, I love this special and it easily makes top 10 episode/movie of anything MLP/EQG, and you pointed out most of the things I loved about it. The thing I really like about Sunset's comment of Celestia's humour is that it indirectly answers a question I had with the show since season 1: why does everypony seem to frighten of Celestia getting mad? We never see it, nor any hint she is capable of such harsh punishment as whatever Twilight imagines. And initially I thought it was just Twilight overreacting like she does, but everypony except for Spike seems to agree that Celestia could do something like that. That remark made by Sunset just answers that question for me, and creates a head canon for me where after Nightmare Moon and before Sunset's self exile, that Celestia was a more serious ruler and teacher. Which makes sense, losing a sister would sour one's attitude, and losing a sister because she didn't pay enough attention to Luna' feelings may result in Celestia taking those under her care a little too seriously. Then, when she lost a student, realised she overdid it and lightened up when she got to Twilight. Also, I think there's an easy and subtle way they can solve the Wallflower being forgotten in the franchise problem even without her being in the plot: just have her as a background character. Have her appear, react to events and hang out with friends. Having her return in a couple of shorts as well would be great
Yes I stopped what I was doing to watch a Silver Quill video. I found all the things in this special very enjoyable. Returned focus on Sunset, self awareness satire, meeting with Celestia, Twilight dorking out over a library. Most enjoyable. Plus, I love how they literally added in the detail of Sunset turning the drone camera on with the device being off screen. A lot of good details. I adore Pinkie interrupting 'preachy princess protagonist' Twilight's speech, as that's my least favorite characteristic of hers. My other noticeable complaint actually is Sunset's coat color seems really off when in the pony world. It seems too dark or something, it comes across jarring. Yet it looks perfectly fine in the human world. I love the fact you brought up Zelda. The memory stone looking like a Sheikah Stone is quite fitting. In Zelda, that eye symbol is associated with illusion, finding the truth through the shadows, or just a form of guidance. It always pops up when there's something to learn, and offers the player tools to help explore. Between the Sheikah being the Shadow Tribe in Ocarina of Time, and there being mummified Sheikah monks to help train Link to face Calamity Ganon in Breath of the Wild, the Sheikah kind of symbolize one going to brave the shadows of the unknown to search for the truth, and perhaps gain enlightenment. Equestria Girls took a spin on this by creating something that distorts and erases the truth. In terms of where it came from, Eye of Horus is literally the best we got to figure it out. Nothing solid has been revealed. It's annoying too because in lore the eye didn't have the tear drop, but was added after the royal family betrayed the tribe. But even the earliest games in the timeline still keep the teardrop. So it would have to be still in the Era of Hylia for that betrayal, but had the story changed to the royal family after Hylia reincarnated into the first Zelda. It'd be nice for some good hints for the proper origins for both in development and in game.
The problem with Celestia changing her behavior, is that it requires her to recognise that what she was doing was wrong on some level, which conveys upon her some responsibility for outcomes from that wrongness - like Sunset. And possibly Nightmare Moon. And yet she never has, nor will the show likely ever allow her to admit she did something bad and apologise for it. (She is The Parent Character, and thus can never be wrong on a young kids show.) Absence such a confession, she starts to come across as an increasingly unsympathetic character.
Night Shade *You're.
If you're going to go around being horrible, you might as well not showcase your own lack of intelligence....
Like Nini from HSMTMTS?
That sounds like a good theory.
No way, everything says that she ran away, so this must have been before she decided to run away.
Of course Celestia didn't have a sense of humor when she knew her. It was still Nightmare Moon time and she was lamenting over her sister. If Celestia lightened up it was probably because of her sister returning and a release of the guilt associated with that.
Doublequill I have the exact same thought as well
Why not both?
It's not like she's been moping over it for a thousand years.
I just think about how _rough_ that scene is. It's a genuinely distressing scene.
I have an idea on why she reacted like that. I’m thinking that from the moment she got to the world she focused on assimilating and noticed the five friends. But yeah no that scene was DARK.
Maybe in G5. Definately in Fimfics.
*Fimifcs intensify.
Night Shade OK 1. that was uncalled for and 2. you used “your” but you meant “you’re”.
DRWolf001 Always nice to see another analyst in Silver Quills videos. Sorry for all the bullshit Lily is putting you two through.
Austen Beaver
What did he do to them? I don't really watch his cynical bullcrap stuff.
Basically, she railroaded them in one of her Glass of Water videos about how Dr.Wolf's response to the Toonkriticy2k thing was wrong. Silver Quill wrote the script for the video, so she blasted Silver Quill about it too.
Wow, what an ass.
Answering one of your last questions with one of my own. Is it possible that Princess Celestia had been hardened by the absence of her Sister on the Moon and it took the lesson of Sunset's failure to wake her up to the reality of what she had become this setting the table for redemption with Twilight as another chance?
Brian Donegan I read your comment twenty times, and I still have no idea what you just said.
@@glitchedquill575 she/he meant that celestia was depressed and trying to get better but felt sunset was her failure when she left . So she took twilight was a second chance and felt alot better with luna back.
That sounds like a good theory.
I knew someone would agree with me did not like that lesson at all very off putting if they had kept everything exactly the same but just put the lesson as you have to be vulnerable in order to make friends it would’ve been much better since it was never in the wrong in this entire thing she got a little angry at anyone would if they were being messed with with magic against their will
I am so glad we finally got an EQG Antagonist that doesn’t turn into some monster. XD
Why those are usually the best parts?
Pelcogo transformations are fun and all, but I’m not a fan of the trend.
I know
I don't know. I'd like to see this show go into a monster of the week format like Danny Phantom, Ben 10, or Sailor Moon. The set up at the end of camp Everfree opens itself up to it. It would be a good excuse to bring the Dazzlings back.
Honestly, the whole magic effecting random people and turning people monsters thing gives me a Miraculous Ladybug vibe.
@9:28, Actually Silver, I think you are right about Celestia. Perhaps between Sunset and Twilight, She asked herself if her expectations and or rigidness was part of the problem.
So working with Twilight had help her change to become a better princess
Props to Nick Confalone for writing this beauty he’s written some of my favorite episodes in the series 👏👏👏 #ConfidenceInConfalone
I think Fluttershy could help Wallflower
That was the extended cut. and oh boy...Newbie Dash. The bane of my existence.
Silver Quill? *drops everything*
Edit: STAR TREK NEXT GEN REFERENCE!!! (I first saw "Nemesis" the other day and can't stop crying.)
Im gonna take a guess and say you saw what Data did? :(
MLPDethDealr32 Yep..... 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 *cries eyes out... again*
Night Shade *you're
They could not use Starwirl forever so good to change it up. Maybe EQ makes some reference to one of the other Pillars at some point too.
They already made a reference to Limbo before it was presented in the show
Midnight☪Wonder I do know of a fanfic that tried to focus on Clover (though obviously while we were all still under the impression Clover was a mare). It's called I Am Demon. Astro Brony did a reading of it. Even with the reveal Clover was a stallion, it's still a good fic and a fun reading to listen to
Nice!
Clover was referred too as a He in some of the books, I think even in the Journal of the Sisters. So a few of us already knew, but its fun to see the reactions from people who don't read. Like watching the Red Wedding all over again.
Silver Quill this whole special was just the begining to a new story.. because it's..
*CONTINUITY!* XD
Night Shade *You're
...what?
9:12 It may be simpler than that. Getting Luna back mellowed her out.
There goes my headcanon. Also Commander Hurricane was confirmed male.
“LIGHT HER UP LADIES!!!” Best.Line.EVER!!!
honestly they have WAY BETTER magical girl costumes in this feature, than in Legends of Everfree. seriously i get eye sores just looking at those costumes, at least these ones look nice & balanced.
Couldn't agree more. They look much better and represent the characters personalities more clearly. My only nipick is Twilight's which has more of a magic theme rather than a science one.
These were still overdesigned even if they looked better.
I really liked this special, it may be my favorite thing to ever come out of EqG, though Rainbow Rocks does come pretty close.
Contrast that to twilight, who started out the same way (She didn't expect Nightmare moon, or Discord to be reformed)
But now Twilight has been learning that there's other ways to rid yourself of enemies.
Instead, most of these are the generic "Evil team of whatevers, training montage, yay, good guys win" and all of the movies are just "Evil bad guy faffs around for a couple hours as the good guys get their act together, and do the laser thing"
It also has a tendency to cling to the original show.
Maybe it can have something to do with both magic AND science
Spike didn't remember either. He was there at the beach and he would react if he remembered.
Vengirni
He was busy chowing down on dog food. That's the clever, and rather cheesy scapegoat that the staff put in. But still, neither Sunset, nor the rest of the Mane 7 looked to him to settle wheter or not something was wrong with everyone's memories.
If you look carefully, he is still there behind legs, listening.
Vengirni
Okay, I'll give you that, but at the same time, they cut to a close up to put him out of scene, and right there he could be trying to state something, but gets overshadowed by the girls arguing.
Overall I find it more likely that the creators just forgot to add the stream for Spike.
About Celestia. I think she became more loose and funny because of Luna returning. Her sister after 1000 years is finally back. I could imagine how happy it made her. I know change doesn't happen that quickly but it's something I guess...
Mr. Quill,
I'm not a fan of Mlp, but I love your videos.
Ashton Fuller this is how it starts ☺
Hooray! They remembered the pony world existed! #Continuity
In every one these longer things apart form Dance Magic and Movie Magic Equestria is important. And Sunset went back once already in Mirror Magic. So it’s not something new.
Sara Samaletdin I know. Thanks for reminding me. I’ve just been ignoring EG for a while.
I didn't notice Moon Dancer :0
Kbzenzi3 AJ! Same!
Johnny Dominguez XD yes I did
You wouldn't be the only one. It's one of those 'blink and you'll miss' moments.
Night Shade Rude
Looks like Wallflower got to you.
Ok, PriTwi is actually pretty clever.
Thanks, I needed some easy short hand to work with and "PriTwi" felt natural.
If it was finale I am pretty sure it would be more advertised and there are still new toys coming out.
It's been confirmed that we are getting another special later this year called Me My Selfie and I.
thebeav Percabeth I thought that was just another short.
CAN WE PLEASE HAVE A CONSISTENT DESIGN FOR THE HUMANE SIX’S SUPER FORMS?!
No because toys!
Well hopefully it’s not this. Overdesing once again.
Impossible! For you see: We've GOT to have... Money...
Arin lewis
Agreed, when i first saw them i was like:"What?! no, why would you change them" some of these new ones look even worse than the previous ones.
Sure some of the old ones were a bit overdesigned but at least they seemed practicle to use in a fight but these.....they're just bad.
I think the majority of people actually agree that these designs are better, but whatever.
@MLP-Silver-Quill I am eager to hear the full review cause wow this was a great special and you got your wish with Sunset! You called it to a degree. :)
Trixie's role in this movie made me think that Sunset is Starlight's counterpart. Just think about it.
8:33 Palpatine: “Ironic.”
Wallflower might be forgotten as far as screen time, but the HuMane 6 don’t necessarily need to stay tight with her, provided they give her the means to make her own way in the world.
My favourite joke was the parking lot line😂
9:33, extended cut? There's an extended cut. When?
Nick Confalone said on twitter that the original version of the special was 5 10 minute episodes. They cut out 6 minutes of it to fit it into a 1 hour special. He said they intend to release the full version on TH-cam later.
Maybe the other 6 minutes are another after credits thing.
I somehow doubt that.
Did they give a date
Doombunny Jack really?!😍
humm well considering the season finale revealed star swirl the bearded as celesta teacher, I'm guessing some of his gruffness rubbed off on her. would also add some more back story to why Luna became nightmare moon. you always give me something to think about as well as a good laugh. thanks silver
I personally loved this EQG special.
Gotta say Silver, you are always entertaining to listen to and I enjoy your reviews.

What I don’t like about Wallflower is that it took the humane six _way_ too long to figure out that she did it.
Why? If something is normal, you don't discuss it. That's what normal means. Have you ever discussed why people are shaking hands to greet each other?
Retcons are the true evil
And why is that?
As far as I know, retcons are necessary for a story to flow properly.
I am more intrigued by the forbidden part of the library. Is it possible that Equestria is a false utopia? The library housing banned literature that paints Equestria in a different light! Fanfiction writers to your pens!
quentin brandt I’m on it!😎
*+Quentin Brandt* What banned literature are you referring to? The thirty-first volume of Canterlot Cantabiles?
Is it weird that I can sympathies with Wallflower a lot?
Not at all, i was in the same position as her during my school years so i can understand what shes going trough.
No I can too
Yay I'm not the only one
I mean if you want to get attention actually try standing out in the crowd instead of blaming others for not noticing you. I mean Fluttershy lives up to her name sake and you don't see her ruining peoples lives. Hell Fluttershy has more of a reason to want revenge against Sunset.
Pelcogo Just the introverts who goes to party and most likely to sit in the corner not that.
This special was depressing with Sunset and the Human Mane Six.
Rebecca Shoichet's performance as Sunset's memories were being stripped away was heart-rending.
Great video Silver! I'm looking forward to seeing the Friendship Games review whenever it is ready to be released. :)
Funny you should mention Star Trek quotes, I was reminded of another one:
"I don't WANT my pain taken away, I NEED my pain! It's our pain that makes us who we are!" James Kirk, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
Also, STILL waiting on that explanation of where the human world Sunset is...
Glad to see you back Silver. I really missed your warm, friendly voice and sense of humor.
I think I have a problem.. I recognize differences between those white towels....
That's attention to detail.
I noticed the slight differences in color, too. :)
Fancy meeting _you_ here... ma-nar-do BOY.
Some fans have already made some very creative works about this.

th-cam.com/video/JSLZiQd3irI/w-d-xo.html
Night Shade.. do i need to hammer some sense into you? the only one who is being a jerk is you
well the EQG 'universe' is not fantasy based. mostly. it's like 10 or 15% Fantasy with the magic and the rest is normal. also the EQG 6 + Sunset aren't wizards, sorceresses their teens with magic given to them via magical object. so yeah that's the basic of a magic girl angle.
if Hasbro decides to make a EQG series with it's take on how now that magic is seeping into their world, more people are being corrupted and its up to Sunset & her friends to save the day while also solving a mystery on how the bad guy of the day or arc became who he is and where the magic came from.
........no my name is Marcus. as to your question yes i am a fucking nerd, AN PROUD OF IT!
Don't mind him. He's not worth it. The only thing I might suggest is pressing the harassment button on him. I've been doing that, because he's been trolling everybody here.
eh i'm used to.
Wait that stone add a teardrop and the memory stone looks like a Sheikah eye. Darn Silver beat me to it.
A Zelda symbol?
BattleshipAgincourt My phone messed up
The Sheikah tribe from the Legend of Zelda call it the mind's eye. Makes sense in my opinion. The Sheikah ninja tend to be some of the wisest characters in the franchise, especially Impa. Objects with this eye like the Mask of Truth and Gossip Stones are all for the purpose of providing information to guide Link through the game.
I expect 'Tia mellowed when she got Luna back.
Well, youv e swayed my opinion even further into the positive with this special. After watching it the first time, I just thought it was okay, but you diving into it further definitely makes me appreciate it more and rate it higher than I originally did. Hopefully the extended cut will raise the rating that much higher.
I felt a real connections with this special, it managed to make me cry twice! TuT
Having her return in a couple of shorts as well would be great
Wallflower only took the students' memories. Wouldn't Spike still remember?
Austen Beaver you already know dhx doesn't think that way with their swiss cheese plots
Lost cellphone That's kind of rude. That's really only one minor plot hole I see in this special.
Who's to say Spike's memories weren't also taken? They probably were.
Glim Glam Fair enough. I'm pretty sure the talking dog is a well known thing in that school by now.
3:53
A winx refference would fit nicely too
Anyone remembers Winx
Just me-?
Ok-
I can't believe your still doing this stuff. I watched you when I was really young and I was amazedd
I have just one question: What was so bad about Sunset's plan in the first movie?
Will you do a Dance Magic, Movie Magic, and Mirror Magic review? 😃
It's good to see you in my subscription feed again
I honestly think the magical geodes are the elements of harmony
2018 is almost over, Silver. The haunting of your previous promises will hang over your head.
U have some good points on this silver quill. Also it's good to hear from you again
Yeah you’re back 😀
