Well if you look at the origin of DMC its suppose to be close to our world that is mixed with sci-fi/fantasy type of stuff I mean zombies are kinda in the realm of sci-fi/fantasy

I think you should mainly focus on your own original project/s. it's nice to be inspired by the things you love, but it's best you create a whole new story and characters instead of using someone else's. With drive and motivation like this you could be the next "One" (One Punch Man/Mob Psycho) as a example of original stories/characters inspired by other things/ideas. Getting noticed for New and Original content is the utmost best way to show your appreciation and *RESPECT* for that one thing that inspired you so much to "create".
When I first saw Lost Soul Aside it reminded people of “Dmc + Final Fantasy” and now we have an actual mod and video of DMC + Final Fantasy. Good stuff.

This, was super awesome! Cutscene wise it fits crazy well. Game play wise id probably swap dante and nero since Dante uses varied weapons, and as far as I know Nero just has swords.
