I went to school with Charlie Justras’ son, Chuck. We bowled together at the old Riverside Park Lanes in Agawam. Chuck was a good bowler, like his dad, but more importantly a great kid!
Charlie was as tough as they came. He was really good in qualifying and head to head bowling. Mr Cool out there on the lanes. Look how he stays cool after Tom threw that 4 bagger.
I started watching Don Gillis Channel 7 or 5 WHDH since 1970, well I quite recall the call letters. If you ask me Charlie owned the 1970s and of course Tom owned the 1980s. I can't imagine all the money Tom O has accumulated in all the years he's bowled on TV.
The rules for marks were: $50 for three marks in a row, and $50 for every mark thereafter in the string. For three strikes in a row, $1,000. Plus $1,000 for every consecutive strike in the string thereafter.
@@scottaznavourian540 That was the 1st game of a three string match. The highest score since I started watching Candlepin Bowling is 191 by Paul Berger when he shot a 500 in a three string match against Dave Richards.
I was in a final and bowled next to Charlie. His advice was priceless.
Tom Olszta was just soooo good

Thank you Alley Chat for these!
This was an episode which was heavily mentioned on WGGB TV 40 in Springfield days before it aired.
Two of the greatest Candlepin bowlers.
THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!! :D :D I think we all know what happens in this show, but for those who don't, go to 9:36 :)
Wolfman how much money do you think Tommy won on channel 5. ?
i watched the show for many years and that was a rarity, 4 in a row.
Charlie looks a lot like Moe the bartender from the Simpsons

4 strikes in a row happened 2x against Jutras.

9:36 TOM OLSZTA HITS FOUR STRIKES IN A ROW
Worth about $5,000 in today's dollars.
Jeesh 4 striikes gets him 159 with no other marks in that string. Imagine if he gets 2 or 3 more marks.

@@williamdunphy352 just saw a agiq where someone be bowled an 88 string. Jeesh I coulda done that
11:51 Don Gillis: He has three strikes in a row! ($50 for three marks, $1,000 for three strikes in a row).
12:14 Don Gillis: He has four in a row!
Charlie Jutras and Tom Olszta and Toni Marie Baldinelli and Stacia Zernacki (spelling) could have all faced off every week and it would have fine
Charlie bowled good enough to beat just about anybody. Too bad he wasn't bowling just anybody.
136 average.Olszta was the best.No one is even close.
He was the best but there were a handful of guys that were close. Berger, Carrington, Atkins, and O'Connell were up there too.
@@kylebertulli4435 Berger was very good.Loved watching his 500.Its on you tube
@@kylebertulli4435 Paul Berger's 500 triple.
Bob Bows from Brockton averaged 140 one season.
I doubt that.@@robertb5465
