I have a 2020 version, Arctic White, lefty, and man, it fucking gives my 2009 USA Stratocaster a run for its money. I really love this Player Series. It’s essentially an updated American Standard, while the American Standard got upgraded to a Pro series.
I have a Standard Stratocaster 2014 model. I changed the bridge pickup to a seymour duncan hot rails and reconnected the 2nd tone knob to the bridge instead of the mid. This player series is really interesting. 2 points tremolo, spagetti logo and 22 frets! nice

Thank you for this review, sounds fantastic and great playing. I bought the Player Telecaster last year and love it. I have played Strat's for years, currently, I have a PRS SE , Les Paul Studio, Yamaha APX 700 Acoustic and a Player Telecaster …..I think this Strat will round off my collection perfectly. I only use a couple of Katana MK2 50's for Amps...….much easier than dragging around the JCM 800 I had in the 90's..lol. I was trying to decide between the HSS or Single coil.....I think the single coil will be fine for the classic rock I play i.e Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin.

Subscribed. Yes, I believe I am. I love the Srats generally, and that Tidepool Blue totally grabs me. I think I will have a quality instrument that feels and plays nearly like a $1900 Made In The USA model, for 1/3 the price. The maple fretboard against that shade of blue is stunning. I've never been so excited about guitar colors before. Keep up the good work!
I couldn't agree more. They've really knocked out of the park with this one. The blue one is my sons' but I've been wanting one in buttercream. Problem is that I already have two others. Let us know when you get one!
Nice man!!!!! I love my MIM FSR Gilmour vibe strat...Mexico puts out amazing fenders. Nothing less than USA aside from personal taste and pups hardware etc. You did your son a service buying him this great quality built and tone instrument. As for me I'm really loving mine and the ceramic pups. I am a gilmour guy. Love Pink Floyd. Perhaps my next fender will be an HSS US model. I'll see. Thanks man. Great review.

Last year I bought a Player Series Strat in white withe humbucker and a Floyd Rose. It sounds amazing! I love the pickups. I bought a Seymour Duncan TB 6 Distortion for the bridge as I'm a metal guitarist and in my opinion my Strat doesn't need it. Good enough as is.
I've seen people making this comment on a few reviews, but I'm suspicious. I tried Player strats at 3 different music stores around Central Florida a few months ago before buying my HSS Plus Top aged cherry strat. Every one I picked up had really good fret work. Maybe not as nice as a Professional II or an Ultra but as good as anything out there for under $1000. I suspect some people are strat haters...
Getting one in this exact finish in just over two weeks. I was going to get it in polar white because of Hendrix’s Woodstock guitar but I eventually had to go with the tidepool colour.
Thnx Alan! I traded in my Player for the best Strat I’ve ever played: a 90s USA G&L Legacy. The Player is an excellent value though and plays pretty damn well!

@@GearGasms I've noticed, and heard it said by others, that fret sizes are inconsistent. I recently purchased a Fret King online with 'medium jumbo' frets and they were er... jumbos (it had to be returned), whereas Duesenberg recon they use jumbos, but they are more like medium jumbos, based on the two I've played. I've also noticed that USA Fender medium jumbo frets seem to be a bit taller and wider than their Mexican counterparts. Lastly, I've noticed that the vintage sized fretwire that's on Japanese Fenders/older Squiers is taller than the stuff that comes from Mexico with the same spec.

I thought I would like a Strat more with a flatter radius until I got one and surprisingly I hated it. Weird- it just didn’t feel like a Strat! I had a cheap Raptor that was pretty cool years ago and signed by Jeff Cook of Alabama

@@YJMusic72 Good call - my son played three, including the Sage one with the Pao Ferro. His choice was purely on color - I played them all too and they were super consistent. Enjoy!
Rolled fretboard is wood/neck work it’s not fret work. Tons of Fenders get fret sprout (sharp frets) due to the fact that they don’t let the wood properly cure before turning them into finger boards. I have a couple of American Strats and yes, rolled fingerboard edges are great. This was one of the very first ones off the line so maybe my son got lucky.
It’s a better sounding guitar compared to the MIM Standard which has ceramics, but the 2 point bridge and 22 frets suck. Looks like any 1988 onwards USA Strat. For the money it’s a great value guitar but you can buy a used USA from late 80s onwards for the same price. The Pau Ferro option also sucks.

Thank you. The 22 frets are on a hangover! Bit stupid really. It’s okay on a tele but the neck ends too near the neck pup of a strat. I have 2 highway one Teles with 22 frets and a HW-1 Strat and thankfully the bridge is vintage.
Good thing to point out is the body is possibly nine pieces of scrap wood glued together. I was giving my blue Strat a refinish and discovered this. Very disappointed even the sunburst is like this. The three piece body is long gone for fender. The only way to get solid wood is a natural finish.
I’m thinking of getting one of these. I was never a strat fan and didn’t like how they felt to play but I realised that some to me felt horrible and some feel amazing and I love to play them. I haven’t tried one of these yet so I need to try it before I make a decision. I once played an American performer strat and couldn’t bear it but I also once played a 60’s strat and loved it. How much time do you spend playing Ace Frehley and Kiss stuff? Most of the time... just like me 😂. It's quite evident in the way you improvise riffs... anyway thumb up man!
I have been thinking about buying one of these. I play mostly hard/heavy rock. I think I would love the pickups on the HSS. Played one HSS on my local store, with a Floyd Rose. I loved it. Then I tried an HSH with no Floyd and I loved the neck humbucker but as I bend quite hard I had to retune it some times... I have been playing floyds over the years and I like their tuning stability. Maybe was a case of bad strings on the HSH or can I trust that it will stay in tune after some heavy bending?? Cheers
A standard trem can stay in tune better with a good setup and stretched strings but still won’t hold like a Floyd. Sounds like you want the HSS? Let us know what you get! Would love to have you subscribe if not already!
Also to add to what GearGasms said a factory Floyd Rose is not as good as buying a Floyd Rose tremolo direct from Floyd Rose and I know this bc of my own experiences and my guitar teacher has one on Strat and his guitar tech installed it and many upgrades he wanted

Good morning John - sorry to hear of this but it sounds like you have a great attitude! If your looking for a tube amp that pairs well with this Strat and is not crazy expensive- I’d go with Fender Blues Jr or Vox AC10. Add a compressor and you’re on your way! @@GearGasms Been hashing it out in my mind. Money really isn't issue so I'm going with the American Professional HSS. Olympic White. Like your suggestion of the Fender Blues jr. Nice and small with great sound.
If money is not a huge factor the Princeton Reverb is gorgeous but if you want it all in one amp- the Mark V:25 or 35 with a single 12 inch cabinet. Especially with the HSS - the cleans are the best I’ve ever heard, the crunch is very Marshall and OMG the high gain is thick and syrupy!

I’ve seen the entire video, and don’t worry - you don’t look like Watts. But there is a famous photo of Watts staring into the police bodycam, and for the first second I looked at your thumbnail I though someone had lifted that photo and glued it onto a guitarist’s body. The thumbnail photo must have caught you the second you made a similar facial expression. I’ve watched your video now, and I enjoyed it. I enjoys guitar reviews where the presenters focus on the guitar. Unfortunately, so many presenters are more keen to market their playing chops or their t-shirts and don’t let the guitar speak for itself.
Can you please tell me what kind of trem block does it has ? Mine has a big trem block. It says PW 29 I think on it. Other Plyer strat does not have that. Thank you !
I have no idea if it's considered a "big block" or not, but I did have the back off when I had to re-level the bridge and it looked "normal" to me. Do you notice a difference in feel or tone between your two Strats? I can't imagine that Fender is putting different blocks into Strats that are in the same series.

The copy rite story explain to me how those teachers that teach on line via you tube showing other how to play copy rites songs. I'm sure they don't make enough money to pay or get sue. You have to make lots of money on a song to get sue and you aint making it
They don’t get sued - YT takes all or part of their revenue and in some cases blocks it. And sometimes that happens way after the fact. I played many of these. Quality varies, some have large neck joint gaps. Sorry, but these feel very cheap to play. I would save my money for an American Strat.
SpaTZz9 literally not the case, this guitar is superb value for money and in many ways outperforms many of rivals at the same price point, the only thing that comes close for value is the epiphone les paul plustop pro series.
Fenderman- I wholeheartedly agree! The improvements they made are great and I’ve played 5 or 6 and none had any fit or finish issues! Bang for the buck!

When I tried a player strat, the frets were sharp and the neck was rough. Went with my first choice, a sire Larry carlton s7 in trans blue

The Standards also had medium jumbo frets, not narrow tall. Narrow tall are now on the USA Professionals.
My Standard was a 98 or a 99 and it had narrow frets so maybe they changed in later years?

They are some decent guitars. But I was able to find an early Peavey Predator. Love that 12" fb radius.
I thought I would like a Strat more with a flatter radius until I got one and surprisingly I hated it. Weird- it just didn’t feel like a Strat! I had a cheap Raptor that was pretty cool years ago and signed by Jeff Cook of Alabama

@@YJMusic72 Good call - my son played three, including the Sage one with the Pao Ferro. His choice was purely on color - I played them all too and they were super consistent. Enjoy!
Fret work impeccable? I've tried a bunch and they all had sharp frets. The player plus with the rolled fretboard is fantastic.
Rolled fretboard is wood/neck work it’s not fret work. Tons of Fenders get fret sprout (sharp frets) due to the fact that they don’t let the wood properly cure before turning them into finger boards. I have a couple of American Strats and yes, rolled fingerboard edges are great. This was one of the very first ones off the line so maybe my son got lucky.

It’s a better sounding guitar compared to the MIM Standard which has ceramics, but the 2 point bridge and 22 frets suck. Looks like any 1988 onwards USA Strat. For the money it’s a great value guitar but you can buy a used USA from late 80s onwards for the same price. The Pau Ferro option also sucks.
Agree on the Pao Ferro. But you don’t like the bridge and the frets or is it just having 22 of them that you don’t like? I’m confused 🤷♂️

Thank you. The 22 frets are on a hangover! Bit stupid really. It’s okay on a tele but the neck ends too near the neck pup of a strat. I have 2 highway one Teles with 22 frets and a HW-1 Strat and thankfully the bridge is vintage.
Good thing to point out is the body is possibly nine pieces of scrap wood glued together. I was giving my blue Strat a refinish and discovered this. Very disappointed even the sunburst is like this. The three piece body is long gone for fender. The only way to get solid wood is a natural finish.

I’m thinking of getting one of these. I was never a strat fan and didn’t like how they felt to play but I realised that some to me felt horrible and some feel amazing and I love to play them. I haven’t tried one of these yet so I need to try it before I make a decision. I once played an American performer strat and couldn’t bear it but I also once played a 60’s strat and loved it. I have been thinking about buying one of these. I play mostly hard/heavy rock. I think I would love the pickups on the HSS. Played one HSS on my local store, with a Floyd Rose. I loved it. Then I tried an HSH with no Floyd and I loved the neck humbucker but as I bend quite hard I had to retune it some times... I have been playing floyds over the years and I like their tuning stability. Maybe was a case of bad strings on the HSH or can I trust that it will stay in tune after some heavy bending?? Cheers
A standard trem can stay in tune better with a good setup and stretched strings but still won’t hold like a Floyd. Sounds like you want the HSS? Let us know what you get! Would love to have you subscribe if not already!

Also to add to what GearGasms said a factory Floyd Rose is not as good as buying a Floyd Rose tremolo direct from Floyd Rose and I know this bc of my own experiences and my guitar teacher has one on Strat and his guitar tech installed it and many upgrades he wanted

It’s a weird color, depends on the lighting. I have one, sometimes it looks darker teal and when there’s more light, it looks like a shiny blue

Good morning John - sorry to hear of this but it sounds like you have a great attitude! If your looking for a tube amp that pairs well with this Strat and is not crazy expensive- I’d go with Fender Blues Jr or Vox AC10. Add a compressor and you’re on your way! @@GearGasms Been hashing it out in my mind. Money really isn't issue so I'm going with the American Professional HSS. Olympic White. Like your suggestion of the Fender Blues jr. Nice and small with great sound.
If money is not a huge factor the Princeton Reverb is gorgeous but if you want it all in one amp- the Mark V:25 or 35 with a single 12 inch cabinet. Especially with the HSS - the cleans are the best I’ve ever heard, the crunch is very Marshall and OMG the high gain is thick and syrupy!

I got the Fender Player cherry burst HSS strat and the Boss Katana 50MkII. It's the best rig you can buy for under $1000.

I’ve seen the entire video, and don’t worry - you don’t look like Watts. But there is a famous photo of Watts staring into the police bodycam, and for the first second I looked at your thumbnail I though someone had lifted that photo and glued it onto a guitarist’s body. The thumbnail photo must have caught you the second you made a similar facial expression. I’ve watched your video now, and I enjoyed it. I enjoys guitar reviews where the presenters focus on the guitar. Unfortunately, so many presenters are more keen to market their playing chops or their t-shirts and don’t let the guitar speak for itself.

No clue - never taken the pickguard off but they are routing many of them like that these days

Can you please tell me what kind of trem block does it has ? Mine has a big trem block. It says PW 29 I think on it. Other Plyer strat does not have that. Thank you !
I have no idea if it's considered a "big block" or not, but I did have the back off when I had to re-level the bridge and it looked "normal" to me. Do you notice a difference in feel or tone between your two Strats? I can't imagine that Fender is putting different blocks into Strats that are in the same series.
@@GearGasms in the Philip McKnight know your gear video he opened one just like mine and it has a much thinner block. That bigger block bigger tone thing is just another guitar myth. I was just wandering why does mine have such a thick block.

The copy rite story explain to me how those teachers that teach on line via you tube showing other how to play copy rites songs. I'm sure they don't make enough money to pay or get sue. You have to make lots of money on a song to get sue and you aint making it
They don’t get sued - YT takes all or part of their revenue and in some cases blocks it. And sometimes that happens way after the fact. I played many of these. Quality varies, some have large neck joint gaps. Sorry, but these feel very cheap to play. I would save my money for an American Strat.

SpaTZz9 literally not the case, this guitar is superb value for money and in many ways outperforms many of rivals at the same price point, the only thing that comes close for value is the epiphone les paul plustop pro series.
Fenderman- I wholeheartedly agree! The improvements they made are great and I’ve played 5 or 6 and none had any fit or finish issues! Bang for the buck!
