I do like the subtlety that Zuko wasn't going to rob them, but they got robbed anyway. I don't know if the creators meant to show that but I feel like its another detail about Zukos integrity
Sometimes I think Wan Shi Tong really embodies the name "He Who Knows *1000* Things" because if he was a wise as he claimed he would have sunk the library when Zhao burnt up all his books and not try to kill the Avatar. Guy seems pretty disconnected for someone who seeks knowledge.
Actually funny story, these two episodes actually did air together on September 15th, 2006 so today is actually the 14 year anniversary of this very episode to the day. The two episodes together were marketed as "The Secret of the Fire Nation" special. Also there was a 2 MONTH gap between the last episode and this 2 episode special. Also the previous two episodes aired together as well but didn't have any special double episode title. So Appa went missing in the 2 previous episodes and we had NOTHING new avatar related until this for 2 months.
Avatar on air, was all over the place. Catch an episode when you can. Imagine weeks or months between episodes. Thats what made it great, always waiting and wanting more. I relive this through you my boi. I never comment but been here since Ruby too

@LVision17 I totally agree but it's possible that she had no haters *because* we didn't see her as much. The more time we are with a character the more development they get which means their flaws are more exposed. It's good character development but some people don't understand what that means. For example Sokka gets some hate for being sexist in the beginning of the show but it's for the purpose of teaching how to accept when you were wrong and he passed the test.

In my opinion, this is the most underrated episode of Avatar. I’m not saying it’s the best, but it’s the one that is appreciated the least for how good it is. This episode is the setup for the second half of Season 2, especially with regard to Zuko, Iroh, and Jet.

RatGod the Serpent’s pass is probably one of the lesser liked episodes. (Just stating these general things not opinion) but the problems Zuko and Sokka are going through aren’t that interesting, The baby being the thing that gets Aang to come back to his senses is a little “roll your eyes” kind of thing, Suki leaves, and Ive heard some people aren’t fans of the serpent itself. It’s not a hated episode by any means but doesn’t go up there with episodes like the Storm and Zuko Alone
Grinning through this whole installment. I was really looking forward to your reaction with Suki coming back and you did not disappoint. You catch everything! Musical motifs, themes, subtext, and the way you and Sokka were riding exactly the same train of thought with only kissing Suki in the daytime was superb.
And it wasn't even the Fire Nation's best secret, IMO. I found this 2-parter to be underwhelming since I knew the drill would be taken care of. Season 3 shenanigans feel more high-stakes, though!
I've been watching a lot of people react to Avatar recently, you are by far the best. Every other person that I have seen react look bored, dont say much, or make funny comments, or theorize at all. They act like robots, but not you. You are a cut above the rest, good sir.

Also that scene where Iroh calls Smellerbee a guy, And her reaction, and what she says to Longshot. That's as far as they could go in including a trans person. Being a transgirl myself I literally cant see any other reason to put that in with the exact wordings we saw. And the best part is, no one calls her on it, she's a well intigrated member of a tight knit group. And Iroh bless him, makes a mistake one smellerbee's heard a million times more aggressively, but he immediately apologizes and changes what he said. It's such an important scene and not too many reactors to ATLA include it much less in full. Smellerbee is too pure.

As originally aired, this was totally a two-part episode. It didn't go to theaters or anything, but it was a full hour-block. However, after airing, Nickelodeon started treating the two episodes as more separate (and they really are each contained stories in their own right.)

Second the gate tot he serpents pass is a reference to dante's inferno. third is the next episode is one of my favorite as an engineer. that drill is a sight to behold
Toph is the fucking best, the greatest Earthbender in the world. I won't spoil it, but there is a sequence later of such incredible clutches by Toph that another character is literally forced to acknowledge that nothing would've worked without Toph and that they all would'be died like ten times.

Jedi were more or less forbidden from expressing emotions, because it distracts them from wise judgement, particularly in battle. Then, when all hope is lost, Luke comes along as the "New Hope", which inspires others to the Rebel cause and ultimately saves the galaxy.
