Hence some of the scholars said that if a Jew, Christian or other non-Muslim clearly says “As-salamu `alaykum,” it is permissible for us to say “ `alaykum As-salam (upon you be peace).”

That could be out of context in this case, and he could be wrong in doing so but still he is following a tradition. Bro, that Muslim doesn’t not know the Hadith properly. In the Hadith a Jewish man greeted the prophet pbuh with “Assamu Alaikum” so Assam instead of Assalam. This means “Death be upon you”. Therefore, the Hadith teaches us to reply to any person that greets with you with Assamu Alaikum with Walaikum which mean “to you too”. It’s not racist or devicive at all. Alhamdulillah

The reason Muslims say “walaykom” instead of saying “walaykom al-salam” is because Jews used to tell Muslims “Al-sum alaykom” which literally means “poison” and make it sound like al-Salam. so by only saying “walaykom” you are only returning what they said, if it was peace so be it and if it was poison then that’s their choice. Do we respect Jews and treat them the same as any other human? Yes. Do we trust them? No.

The hadith says that we shall only say Wa aleikum salam, when we think that the other person (is it jewish or christian) didn't mean the greeting. So if they actually intended something bad, you give this back to them by saying same for you. And the person in the clip clearly is an enemy of Islam, so he didn't really wish him peace.

So ignorant, the reason this tradition is because the jews were not willing to give salam to the muslims in the time of the prophet, they would say sama alaikum (death upon you) so prophet taught the muslims to say walaikum (and you) so ball is upto the jews if they want to give peace, muslims will give them the peace back, and if they want to curse, then muslims will give them the curse back, there is literally no inherent racism involved from the muslim side for this tradition, the jews can only blame their ancestors for being arrogant and not accepting the prophet of God whose coming was mentioned in the old testament, and the knowledge of which their ancestors knew, which is y they settled in yathrib (medina) in the first place

So instead of judging his words and his heart, we said you too. So if he wished peace for me, me too. If he wished death, we say me too. What is wrong? Nothing.

The reason this was done is,
Some jews used to say “Assam alaikum” Meaning let there be death upon you”, Assalam (peace) and Assam (death) sound very similar, which is why our blessed prophet taught us to reply them with “wa alaikum” so whatever they greet us with we say, the same upon you, peace or death.
