The tunes are all traditional Irish reels: The Drunken Landlady/The Wind That Sakes the Barley are the first two. The name of the last slips my mind. Brendan is one of the finest trad harmonica players out there. It is very difficult to play the ornaments used in Irish music on the harmonica, but a talented few have managed it and Brendan is up there at the forefront. Brendan is also a fabulous swing/jazz musician. Look for his TH-cam videos with the Tim Edey band as well.
Astounding. I know nothing about harmonica playing, but I know enough about music to realize the tremendous skill he has. And when he's finished, he's not out of breath at all. Supernatural !!
I keep coming back to this, over and over. I've watched an awful lot of harp playing on TH-cam. Technically demanding and beautifully expressed, This is one of the best examples of harmonica musicianship. Thank you for posting.... and Thank you Brendan
Beautiful! It's hard to get to the place where big technique is wholly subsumed to a musical vision--in this case, a complicated and sprightly melody--but you've definitely arrived there and it's a great lesson for all of us.
Candy rat really finds the most amazing artists, there isn't really any musician on their channel/site that I can't really listen to without being in awe =P
Hands down, one of the very best harmonica players I've ever seen. "Sweet Bulgarity" is one of my favorites. In fact, I think I'm gonna watch it right now! :-)
When I first saw the picture on the side, I thought he was holding a sandwich. Anyways, that was amazing. I don't think I have ever seen someone play a harmonica like that before. Thanks for sharing.
This is like a slap in the face. I always thought of the harmonica as a silly instrument. But this is beautiful, and there are some really talented harmonica players out there.
Hi Angel! Great to hear from the most awesome Bulgarian Tambura and Electric Guitar player ever. I enjoyed the clips on your channel; I hope you put up some hot traditional Tambura ones as well! Hi to Georgi, Nedyalko, Peyo and all my Bulgarian friends.
It's called a chromatic harmonica, the button moves the holes in the metal, so the air is directed to a different set of reeds, which is tunes half a step higher then the "normal" one.
Brendan you are truly amazing, which im sure you already know this, but nice work, its not very common where you see such control over notes and someone doesnt play more than one note at once, and it was also very cool to see that your right hand didnt really for the most part do hardly any sound control but pretty much just kept rythem with your tempo, up till the the end when you added dynamics for the lower notes. Very nice, you are THE GOD OF THE HARP
That was a true pleasure to listen to, simply amazing. Reminds me of when I was a young kid and used to go hiking into the mountains with the old ones for some reason, simply soothing to listen to ^^ Btw, anyone have any idea of the cost of an introductory level cross harp like this? Prefferably not one with a wooden comb. If I could play like that I'd be a happy man, this kind of music embodies how I wish to feel all the time ^^
I'm playing a prototype of a new Suzuki chromatic harmonica called the Fabulous. I've re-tuned it to my own scale for playing Irish music. Brendan Power
I got absolutley no idea about harmonicas but he's probably got one button at a side you can see and he's creating small "spaces" around harmonica with his hand to alternate the sound output. You can do the same with just your mouth. As I said, dont'know just asuming. Mark me spam if I'm wrong :)
This makes me think that Brendan (in addition to his splendid mastering of other music) is actually the only one who knows how to play an IRISH harmonica and to make it sound as just as traditional as any harp, fiddle or flute. There are, of course, a may people who play Irish music on a blues harp and often quite well, too, but to my ears all those I've been listening to had a foreign, usually American, accent in their playing. [this praise has been owed, but it's honest]
This reminds me of the Flash Series by Adam Philleps based on Brackenwood. That opening song sounds very similar especially around 40 to 75 second mark.
I don't get tired of hearing this 1000 times. It's just awsome and very beautiful!!!!

Astounding! Beautiful!
Makes you feel happy and energized.
So fun to listen to!

OMG I just love this stuff, watched this like 20 times already.
Hey Brendan ! Long time no see - fantastic - you are a maestro bro!
That's exceptional! First instrumental non-guitar piece, and it's stunning.

I love it. Unleashes the happy inside me.

The second tune is called 'The Wind that Shakes the barley', and the third is 'John Stenson's No. 2'.

I have a Suzuki Fabulous as well.... and that's where our similarity ends! Absolutely brilliant!

Incredible!
I really enjoyed this!!
Thanks!
every video that these guys put out has top quality players on it , cudos to you guys rpoland *thumbs up*
It is a chromatic harmonica. He taps the button on the side when he needs a sharpened/flattened note.
so unique and awesome
i would really want to learn that
Loved it... sounds a lot like accordian but a lot more work to play!! Great job!
Brendan Power is my harmonica role model.
very clean...very awesome...
I hope he makes a duet with one of the guitar guys in candyrat. Damn this left me breathless literally
That was a true pleasure to listen to, simply amazing.

Woah, thats just amazing!
I wonder how much works that armonica, never had seen one like that.
Fabulous! I really like this tuning too.
Swatne.
River dance!
It's fantastic!
Brendan power can you please play that song for my cuzing he listen to playing this all the time
beautifully done.
Thanks very muth Brendan !! and more congratulations ;-)
Wow, I used to play this on the guitar, never heard celtic trads on the harmonica. I love this guy. Definately. :p
I didn't know Harmonica had such a clean and beautiful sound!
What a great player!!World class heavyweight!!
How on earth do you learn this kind of stuff! Absolutely incredible!
damn talented !!
Speechless...
Another talented musician joins the ranks of candyrat.
What tune is he playing?
Song: Playing 'The Drunken Landlady' as it says in title and description
Instrument: Chromatic Harmonica
wow that was amazing. you're really talented.
woww...
sounds great ! thx CandyRat

beautiful.
its sort of the harmonica's equivalent to an electric guitar's 'whammy-bar' . allows for quick and rhythmic pitch changes. GREAT PIECE!
Can you please play that song for my cuzing he listen to you all the time
Wow ! Brendan !!!! What amazing player !
"Drunken landlady" it's the first tune but the other ? Can you help me to find them ?
2nd is 'The Wind that Shakes the Barley'. The 3rd one rings a bell, but don't know the title...
Fergus Iokese The Star of Munster
@@ConsairtinFergus The last one is John Stenstons, the A major one
blown away!
man It's just awesome! I just want to know if there's any bends?
Its not really a valve but a slide that chromatic harmonicas have to allow it to have the full scale.
what harmonica was this and what key. amazing performance. precision and control
that was fantastic
wow, thats amazing!!!
Astonishing……..brilliant
My question is: Is the tone different when you breathe in and when you breathe out?
ye
mmmmmm greatness!
he plays it as if its a god damn FLUTE! AMAZING!
its for changing to some notes, and also for a wah effect if hes covering the harmonica
yes its different. its a half tone lower when breath in i think.
awesome, Master of the harmonica
Is there a little valve on the side of that harmonica that he's tapping with his index for a "hammer on/pull off" effect?
Superb playing but is this recorded in a confessional box?!!
Blimey I was going to say the same thing!
But how do you know its a confessional box? Ha ha
Brilliant!
I would really love to see this guy collaborate with some of the acoustic guitar artists on Candyrat.
Exactly what I was thinking about Bitey and that huge chase scene!
i nearly passed out just watching him...
I recongnize some at the end but is there any on the rest of the song? anyone can tell?
This guy is incredible
just awesome

it's and chromatic harmonica and on the left there's a kind of button that changes the tune
a master of the instrument.
are you from the canadian maritimes?? awsome!
love it!
you're just great!
very brilliant
Brilliant! Brilliant, man! :^D
Lovely tune. Could use a bit more dynamics in tempo, volume an intensity. Anyone knows what harmonica he is playing?
incredible..
Holy shit! My new hero!
