I am from India, and I am SO JEALOUS, this is so beautiful. This culture needs to be preserved and observed and all indians should help. I hope your community isn’t under any threat
When I visited Bali ten years ago and was treated with its traditional dancing, my eyeballs almost bulged out from their sockets because of the mesmorizing beauty of the dancing, its music - and the dancers. Unfortunately, I didn't know its name and have so far searched for it in vain. "Tari Puspanjali" is the closest I can find and it is also very, very beautiful. I also recommend "Tari Gabor".
If you can remember the some details of the dance such as the number of dancers, colours of the costumes, male or female dancer, I can try and help you narrow down your search :)
The rich luxurious Indonesian history and culture makes me proud to be part Indonesian Balinese. And the animosity and ignorance that "tennyphnom" has expressed is downright sad. Bless your heart Child. The gamelan music and the legong choreography was immaculate, haunting and hypnotizing. The execution and perfect and beautiful. xx -Gusti Putra Indya Alexander Chandrawinate-Angelucci
oh well, i like to see this dance whenever it's from bali or from india, people should live in harmony with eachother. i have seen the pusHpanjali from india. it's not the same as from bali. but i prefere to watch the tari puspanjali of bali. cheers!!
@elibris I think there is a high chance that he is meaning it as a compliment. The gamelan music and dance both have incredibly mysterious qualities. I would consider referring to it as creepy, but in the best sense of the word. I think this artform is total magic. Maybe the word creepy itself has negative connotations. But not for me. Thanks for posting all these dances by the way :)
well, it is a little bit creepy, in a good way though. it somehow gives me goosebumps. the dancers are very good! i mean, their expression, hand gestures, body postures, they are just flawless. I could really feel it.
Yes, vast areas of Indonesia and Malaysia use Sanskrit in their language, it is obvious to see. But these are no different from latin root being found in many European languages. Bahasa itself is Sanskrit. When Hindusim and Buddhism came to what is no called Indonesia the dance forms were definately infuenced by Indian culture, but this was 2k years ago. The dances have since evolved thier own uniqueness but still one can see similarity with Indian forms aswell as differences.
tell me about it im half balienese . my mum is australian and we live in melbournee , and everytime i go see family and stuff i neer wanna go bak ! australia is sooo dull compared to bali !
You're going to have to go to Bali for the costume. You're in the Bay Area - why don't you consider joining Gamelan Sekar Jaya (in Oakland) as a dancer, so you can experience learning this type of dance?
For those things she has to order from Bali and "titip" to someone who is coming back from Bali. There is always a way... I got my new costume complete recently for the Indo day :). Are you from bay area? Indo day is on Saturday, will you come?
Well, I guess... But it's difficult to find proper prada (goldleaf) here - so if maynila67 would be happy with regular gold paint, then that's one thing. Also, where would you get the materials for the bunga mas?
@kumarsa108 i always said that some dances from South East Asia look very similar to those in India. i think was because as people migrated from India throughout other lands they carried their culture, and it evolved to be similar to the original. To me its like India has the "mother culture" for southeast Asia and the culture of the countries there is just a simpler version of that in India. I don't mean to offend anyone.
