  • A question I'm CERTAIN has lingered in the backs of everyones minds at least once after the release of 9th gen, which of these two mainline Pokemon games to come out within the last year is the superior game? The series mix-it-up style of Pokemon Legends? Or the genre defining Pokemon Scarlet & Violet?? Lets have an in-depth discussion to see which of the two TRULY comes out on top!

    Sure Arceus doesn't have other towns, but honestly SV doesn't either. It has gyms with the facade of a town around them.

    I prefer Legends over Scarlett and Violet for a simple reason.
    Pokemon was getting repetitive and I wasn't having as much fun as I was during childhood. Legends Arceus brought new light and created something more dynamic. It felt great to be able to dodge attacks! Also I get really excited, but scared whenever I come across alpha Pokemon.
    I would've given 0.5 points for Legends having a shiny sound; which was needed more in Gen 9. That way each would've had 3.5 points.

    Easily Legend Arceus simply because it did more different from the regular series. Scarlet and Violet rolled back a lot of changes that felt like it was moving the franchise ever so slowly forward.

    When it comes to tera vs styles, I think I like styles a little bit more because it feels like a MECHANIC rather than a gimmick, even if not perfect (look up people doing the eternal battle reverie with teams of 3 weaviles that ice shard stunlock) and in general is a great representation of why I prefer legends. Many of the additions felt like mechanics rather than gimmicks. The crafting felt so much more natural than the kinda tedious "oh we should put a crafting thing in this game huh" tm system and just collecting resources you needed was enough for me to make up for the lack of notable locations in the open worlds that both games have, and were better woven into the world than glowy pokeball 502 that gave dire hit 16 you won't really need. Throwing a pokeball yourself adds so much to the feel and was way better implemented into legends than it was in SV, where that mechanic was just encountering that same pokemon like a second quicker. I don't even think SV taught you the back strike. If we get the gameplay of legends with a more traditional battle style, we'd be set and I'm hoping the critical success legends had is gonna be an influence to the future.

  • @MegaVirus700

    Honestly, Arceus not showing up until the end makes sense when you consider Volo. He causes the events of the game to happen so that he can lure out Arceus to meet and catch it. So what does Arceus do? He sends someone in his place, denying volo the small victory of luring Arceus out

    • @dayvonlouis5187
      @dayvonlouis5187 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exactly Arceus gave the player the goal to seek all Pokémon both before and after dealing with cause of the distortions being Giratina and Volvo and with Arceus being the *final* challenge of course it’s because he’s the creator deity of the Pokémon world what sense would it make to just walk up and challenge god first then dealing with the lesser ones being the creation trio. the Arc phone and the plates are the only tangible hints that he exists in story as clearly the two clans believed that only Dialga or Palkia mistakenly believed them to be the almighty Sinnoh/Arceus who is already incomprehensible in nature as it is and the game even had the big revealed that the Arceus we do see after all these years is just an avatar a piece of the actual being

    • @Openreality
      @Openreality 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Imo Arceus has the best and most unique story because of Volo and what Arceus said to the player character about having to catch all Pokemon. That's not even the main focus because people still forget that in order to do that one needs BDSP to catch Darkrai and Shaman in Legends. I've gone through many switches and didn't always get the chance to transfer my data between them, so i no longer can have the chance to catch them all in Legends, so I'm not worried about that and can still enjoy the game. Arceus gave way for me to actually feel like i was a trainer in a wild world against bizarre monsters that will eat me if given the opportunity. I loved that the most.

    Legends was WAY more FUN plain and simple and legends was such a big change that it literally made me hate Pokémon scarlet and violet when it brought back the old school Pokémon gameplay. After legends I couldn’t bare going back to “bumping into Pokémon in the wild constantly starting forced battles” and that’s exactly what scarlet violet did and I hated it. Sure scarlet violet was better in many aspects on paper but was hindered by expectations Legends created and the experience felt bad because of it whereas Legends felt fresh , new , improved and FUN!

I only got 20 hours in (99% of that being multiplayer with bro) before I quit. I just wasn't having fun. I was bored and hated the grinding (which was a LOT more fun/easier in Arceus, IMO, to the point that it didn't even FEEL like grinding to me) and old school catching/battles. I don't WANT to have to fight 10k trainers to level up a little, just let me catch every Pokmeon in sight by throwing balls and gather materials to make shit to level up! AUGH! X'D

    I totally agree with your point that each game had what the other was lacking, one thing I think Legends needed was more time or DLC to tap into more of Sinnoh's lore and an extra town or 2 would have been nice along with battles, but I also get the simple approach given the setting and the games they are supposed to be connected too, if this was a Legends Kalos game than we'd probably have more battles and the story and characters would have reflected those changes.
    I don't want to leave an essay so in short, I enjoyed both games almost equally but like Legends more because of everything it added to the already established story, SV had its own great story but I like it when the games feel more connected

I certainly think it could have adopted some stuff from legend like overworld shiny charm. I find myself wanting to catch Pokémon outside of battle in Scarlet...but I've also found myself wish I could auto battle in legends sometimes. So I love both and I'm excited for what is next. Easy decision for me If one had to disappear forever I’d say Scarlet and Violet can go away for good and I’ll feel that nothing of value was lost if competitive battles is what people want gamefreak should develop a stadium like battle simulator with seasonal updates for the switch and keep the Legends games as the adventure style action RPG for Pokémon collectors and those who want a more immersive experience in the Pokémon world that would be an idea I’d propose because whatever they thought they had going with Scarlet and Violet wasn’t it and to me personally the traditional Pokémon gameplay style hasn’t been a must play for me since Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire sun and moon was meh UsUm was ok, BDSP was underwhelming and missing key things that made platinum so great, Sword and Shield was a major disappointment only becoming decent with the DLC and Scarlet and Violet is the definitive reason of buyer’s remorse to the highest degree for me in regards to the franchise

    I'm just gonna put my two cents. For me Scarlett and Violet are much worse than PLA. The performance into SV is so horrible I'm almost never immersed into. Constantly glitching, lag, pokeballs floating in the sky just staying there. Not to mention that the animations and game design underperformed. Like how do you have battles from previous generations look better than the animations in Scarlett and Violet. While in PLA with catching, dodging, and fighting Pokemon you actually have them hit each other. Holy crap how are we taking three steps back. Even though Scarlett and Violet has the better story and online for me the gameplay experience is the most important aspect to any game. Also in terms of which had the better world, it's hands down PLA. While you do have the school that gives the rich history and serves as the tutorial for SV every other town is absolutely dead and forgettable. I can count the number of buildings I can enter and explore in the entire region on one hand. Most buildings you enter just bring up a png for a menu. The amount of cut corners in this game... I don't have anything good to say about the cities in this game. The worst out of any Pokemon game by far and they are to bring the life into human civilization to the game. Jubilife village funny enough, undebatably, has more life and culture than ever town in Paldea combined. You get to see how important the survey corps is when their duty to the village is security, investigation, and diplomacy between people and Pokemon. We get to see how scared people are of Pokemon as most have never touched a PokeBall before. So by completing side quests you get little stories and adventures between the people in the village. They also grow more fond of you as they bond with Pokemon you bring to them. Also, the village changes slightly as you complete missions with Pokemon bringing life to the village. The amount of little details you have all in one hub is astonishing as you explore the region free of lag, almost glitches, better gameplay, better battle animations, and every Pokemon you put on your team feels like there is a story behind it.

Arecus takes it for me for a few reasons... 1- it wasn't meant to be a "main line" game yet it is.. and it seemed to have "cooked" better in that there is not so many graphical and performance issues. Also I like the over world pokemon hunting in Arceus way more than any other pokemon game and it made me feel like it was the way I always wanted to go about "catching them all!". Great comparison.. I’d argue so. I think SCVI underneath the mess is arguably the best modern pokemon game, but I don’t consider PLA in that specifically because the changed made in it to the formula didn’t stick, making it feel even more like it’s own thing than it already did. That being said, the PLA gameplay loop was far more enjoyable than SCVI and I felt more immersed in the Hisui region than I did Paldea, partially due to the mechanics of the gameplay, but also because of the side missions.

    To me, all Arceus is missing is more battles. Anything else would be gravy. I could say make the world bigger. Add more post-game story content. Expand the dex, etc. But considering I could say that about pretty much ANY Pokemon game, the point is moot.
    Arceus's catching mechanics made collecting SO fun. Also I was never the type to finish my dex (even though I desperately needed to to shiny hunt for my favorite pokemon), but the dex tasks made catching an enjoyable challenge. Adding more movement to the main character was fun. And the auto farming for items was so refreshing.
    Auto battling in SV is so annoying to me. Yes it eliminates some of the tediousness of grinding. But it was like 90% of the battling in game, aside from a few necessary trainer battles. And as usual since gen 6, the trainer battles were stupid easy. Also for such an expansive world, it really showed me nothing.
    The benefit of the old pokemon games being so linear, is that they could intentionally design the map to support the story. Talking to NPC's was fun and informative. Finding hidden rooms or areas was more rewarding because you are usually beholden to such a strict path.
    I think the only way for Pokemon to truly thrive in the open world setting, is to completely change the mechanics of the game, like final fintasy or zelda. If they don't want to move away from turn-style battling, then I think limiting the map, and focusing more on graphics (to match the specific style, not to keep trying to add realism to the world for no apparent reason), story elements, and an interesting battle system should be the priority.

      Literally almost every new gimmick after megas were better then megas. For one megas were so poorly picked cause half of them were either for legendaries or pseudo legends. At least dynamaxing, style changes and testeralization were able to be used on any pokemon instead of being so limited.

      that's only technically true since in both games you don't have a full dex. So you can't actually terastilize or dynamax EVERY pokemon.
      if they just kept megas, they could gradually introduce new ones every gen, while continuing to change and balance the existing megas after seeing how they interact with the new gens.

    As far as online goes they did so much better with Sun and Moon and USUM and with ORAS. Scarlet and Violet really make me sick anymore playing it with how JARRING THE CAMERA MOVEMENTS ARE and the buggier mess, buggier than a termite mound, called Scarlet and Violet. Legends Arceus is by far more superior.

    I do have a major disagree with you on the story and characters. I thought Scarlet and Violet had a great story, but I thought the far superior story was legends Arceus. I mean they tell you in the story if you go through the whole thing and meet and face Volo that the reason why you were sent back in time is to stop him and not give Volo the benefit of the doubt of luring Arceus because he obviously started this whole problem. Also getting to understand why the Pokémon and humans don’t get along and then building off of that was really cool to see, and there was so much progression in the story . When you add into the fact, it didn’t have the legends mechanic of catching and the boss battles it seemed like a setback. That’s not even including the fact that one part about Arceus that was cool and refreshing the ability that you could actually get hurt and get knocked out by the Pokémon. The graphics just all around were better than Violet. Battling systems seemed better with the two different styles because it would’ve been more strategizing than just another form of basically one move in the battles over. It also made people actually care about catching all the Pokémon. if they could include the research tasks with the traditional Pokémon game and the changes I’ve talked about. They would have been so much better almost a perfect game.. the flaws I see for legends was they didn’t have any way of Internet, which I personally don’t think is a big deal and more trainer battles. I enjoyed Scarlet and Violet and I didn’t have as many bugs, but I think that Arceus is far and away the superior game.

    Gimmicks. Give me Mega-Evolutions, turn them into Tera-Typing and we'll just be satisfied. Or give me Mega forms as a new evolution. But yeah, Game Freak, Pokemon Company and Nintendo are dead-set on you NOT having fun.
    Glide for four seconds. Ooo. Wow. I also clipped through the mountain....thanks Nintendo.
    It would be nice if they'd put....effort into a game. Just one. Full effort. One game.

    Maybe it’s just because I didn’t play PLA at first but I preferred S/V in almost every category. It’s just such a good step for main-line games that it single handedly roped me back into the series. PLA is still great, but just feels less sustainable

    You forgot pokemon interactivity. But that night be a personal thing.
    I definitely think ScVl deserves at least one full point for the picnic set-up. I love being able to stop in almost any spot and put up a tablr and play soccer with my pokemon.
    Also i disagree about your last point. I think the story for legends was better.
    Overall though i mostly agree. Great video 😊

    This isn't even a QUESTION. OF COURSE Arceus is better. 120%, NO contest. I couldn't get through more than 20 hours of Scarlet, and that was virtually ALL local multiplayer with my bro. I was really, really bored and hating the level grinding (vs the FREEDOM and FUN of Arceus). Arceus, on the other hand, I'll probs have around 100 hours by the time I'm done, and I'll probs STILL go back! BEST catching mechanics EVER! I fucking LOVE it so much! The best Pokemon game I've EVER played, hands down! I don't think I'll EVER be able to buy another mainline game unless they SREIOUSLY fix/change things, and I've been playing since Red/Blue! Even my BRO, one of the BIGGEST Pokemon nerds I've ever met, said the same thing. He's done unless they fix/seriously overhaul things.

    I got Arceus with high expectations and it was sooo freaking boring! I managed to play 10 hours before i packed it up and sell it. Then i got Violet and it was day and night difference. Not a great game by any means but better experience than Arceus definitely. Overall the two games should have been one game combined somehow. Some of the great innovations on pokemon Arceus should be on the main line games. But as we all know Nintento and gamefreak wants money. So three seperate titles are better than 2. Hoping for great next gen games once again but i i dont expect much.

  • @celiafrostborn
    @celiafrostborn ปีที่แล้ว

    The only thing good about legends was the catching, the rest of it was undercooked and incredibly dull. And the battle style boiled down to spam agile style of quick Pokemon because you were at a disadvantage by using a slow Pokemon. Trainer battles are nearly non-existent and so on and so forth as well, It really isn't a competition as to which game is better. Even for as many flaws as gen 9 has it still offers more that is better overall, I can't be convinced otherwise.
