I only saw the thumbnail of you sitting in that tent and knew immediately where you were xD I went to Kaltenberg just a few weeks ago and sat in that exact tent. It's my friends' and my peak spot every year for watching the parade while having snacks and drinks!
Also love the commentary at 10:40 "We have people with so many talents here, but noone can sing" xD
Btw, mead (aka honeywine) with cherry is usually called "Drachenblut" ('dragonblood') at a lot of renfaires. Spätzle are thick egg noodles where the dough is pressed through a grate directly over a pot of water so it comes out in these typical little lumps. Then just add a crapload of cheese and some onions and you have one of THE southern German dishes.
If you want any of the stuff you caught on camera translated, let me know. I grew up German/English bilingual so I'm fluent in both languages.

You should visit the Burgfest in Neustadt-Glewe which is held each year in the summer.
It's mainly a Viking-Germanic Festival with a Battle on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The cool part is that the Battles are with 200-200 people against each other in full battle kit and normal metal swords like you fought with in this video, but blunt.
The battle is a full-contact battle, or huscarl battle, where the whole body is hit except for the face.
It's really nice, but it's very far in the north of Germany at the Baltic Sea, so IDK if you are up here when the festival is next year, but you can look it up on TH-cam.

Hi Conner, great content! I almost felt like I was there too. :) A dose of German culture. And there was a castle - my Dad was born in a castle!! 🏰 Thank you for bringing us along. Have you noticed how almost nobody had their phone out? That is a development I like to see. Here in London, we have the V&A museum and the medieval section is the most interesting one to me. Also, did you ever check your heritage on a site like 23andMe? I wouldn't be surprised if you have German roots in addition to the Irish heritage you mentioned before. I want to do a test like that at some point too.

"A tour of the Franconian Open Air Museum (Franconian Open Air Museum) in Bad Windsheim is like a journey through 700 years of everyday Franconian history: more than 100 buildings, farms, craftsmen's houses, mills, shepherds' huts, breweries, official buildings, schoolhouses and aristocratic palaces, barns, stables, baking and drying huts invite you to take a journey into the past. The houses were moved to the museum from their original locations all over Franconia and are arranged in six groups according to regions and themes. Of particular interest are the "Medieval Building Group" and the "City Building Group" in the middle of the old town of Bad Windsheim with the Museum Kirche in Franconia (Museum Church in Franconia Bad Windsheim), the old building yard and the herbal pharmacy."

never understood US renaissance fairs, why renaissance? why is it full of videogame cosplayers? why is nothing historically accurate (like you got leonardo da vinci and a knight in shining armor and a viking and a fairy...
why are there never actual reenactors like smiths and other crafts? If americans are bad at doing medieval(or "rennaissance" fests why not do something from US history? I'd definitely go see a civil war or independence war festival and I bet you could find alot of enthusiasts and actual equipment, clothes etc. from that time, you could have horse riding, you could have battles or shooting competitions... It's all there. I bet there are hundreds of clubs reenacting the british redcoats or washingtons forces.
Renaissance fairs just suck because the US has nothing to do with the renaissance... unless you want to reenact columbus landing or some spaniards slaughtering natives and do a little slave market but I guess that wouldn't go over too well...
