Hey mate. I barely ever post a comment on a video, but I just wanted to say that your channel is one of the best out there, and that’s a really cool tune you’re working on. The drums actually sound incredible.

Really great video, this totally resonated with me. I can attest to the small room technique. I’ve got a very small area to work with, and it took me so long to figure out the best way to get a roomy sound, and it was exactly what you said. I took two sterling, active ribbon mics behind a Gobo, about 8 feet out front of the drum kit, and compressed it pretty good, and boom!! I got the sound I was looking for!! 🙌🏻😁

Such a cool song, very refreshing to hear something like this in a music production video

That means a lot. I worked really hard on dumb little things even to get a coherent part together on an instrument that I don’t know how to play well.

the drums are really well recorded, like a drums of war feel, phase doesn't always have to be an enemy, it can add a strange depth and very wide stereo ambient texture. thanks for the video and informative teaching

This! So important! And it's really sort of the hardest thing to improve at. Knowing your parts is one thing, but knowing how they fit in texture-wise and planning ahead is a whole different thing. Also, dude! This is incredible. Not that you were lacking before, but this is proper sound design on an inspirational level!

Love the feel of your song. This video was really informative and helpful from a production point of view - taking time for self-reflection and analysis is so important. I will aim to be more self-critical when recording my instruments ie capturing performance, texture and timbre etc. Thank you 👍

Most of my recordings sound simultaneously muddy AND harsh all at the same time. It's incredible.

As long as you like the sound then keep doing it. The worst thing to do is doubt yourself.

When you record with mics you’re basically recording the sound of the room. Placement is really important but also difficult when you don’t have a separate control room. If you have to record in the same space as the drums you won’t be able to get the mic placement right. In such a case a noise cancellation headphones can really help to get better results.

I think direct on the kit and roomy on the toms sounds a lot better. The kit sounds bigger and at the same time the guitar fits better with it.

@@creativesoundlabI’d say post rock is probably the genre name that most describes what you’re making! It sounds awesome btw. Especially this track. The synth line is so cool. I always find it hard to incorporate synth into my music in a way that sounds natural, but the synth line here fits in so well
