Mike, this week has been a freaking joke lol. The guy I was complaining about the fence about, the next day I went to pick up my payment and he let me know that I fried his circuit board on his generator.😩 when it rains it pours lol I demanded he keep his money and he was appreciative. I took the loss and moved on, next week is a new week! Turns out SH is corrosive!!🥴
@@drowization I hear you brotha; it’s tough right now in the heat of the summer. Hey check out my video on the free marketing i did, see if you could do something similar in your area 🙏🏼
have your people that you know get a quote and you will match it or do your best to beat it. Thats what always works for me. some people just do not understand....
Bro you are learning! I’ve been there. Idk what fresh rinse would do but I damn sho know what I would do 😂. Homie would be paying for that fence. Don’t fall into “it’s the right thing” trap. There is an objective RIGHT! That’s not up to interpretation. Y’all didn’t discuss a fence. So that’s why you are feeling pissed. You should feel pissed! He’s trying to get one over on you. Hell, if any of my friends offer a service or I buy from them, I pay FULL PRICE every time. It’s more disrespectful for a “friend” to ask for a discount than a stranger in my opinion. It’s scope creep. Scope of work must be clearly defined or they’ll start to creep the edges to get more. It’s frustrating, but at least you are learning the lesson. Good vid!
You're 1000% right. Scope Creep.... I haven't heard that one, but I damn well have experienced it 🤣 I am learning, I appreciate you reaching out and helping. You have been in the game! business is business. I'm gonna start treating it as such.
Did a gutter cleaning job the other day that I bid over the phone by measuring with Google Maps for $250. I thought I'd be in and out in an hour and a half. Got to the job and knew right off the bat I'd F#@k'd myself. Roof was probably a 15 pitch so totally unwalkable and there were only 4 downspouts on probably a 4500sqft house. Ended up taking just over 4 hours to complete the job. Gutters were full to the brim and it had been so long the debris had turned into topsoil so I had to hand clean it and then blow it out with the pressure water. Gutters were put on like crap and water would just sit in them rather than flow towards the downspout. Customers were super nice though and I've already gotten 2 more jobs from their recommendations. Second year in business so I'm still trying to figure some stuff out. They can't all be grand slams, so I'm just going to call this a learning experience. Problem I have on the smaller, lower ticket jobs like this is that it isn't economically feasible to quote in person, but one thing goes wrong and it sours the whole job. When I first started my business I decided that I was going to only do high quality work and then charge what I need to charge. Like when I bid a driveway, I'm including the walkway, sidewalk and curb in the price because I think it looks like crap to have a clean driveway and then the rest of the concrete in the front to be dirty. It also lets the neighbors see how dirty their concrete is when you clean right up to it.
I think we have similar mindsets my friend. We want the WORK to speak for us. But i completely understand your frustrations, it's not realistic to in person estimate every single little job, but you can get burned. a mentor once told me, you win some you lose some. like you said "cant all be grand slams" get paid and move on

I know how you feel about the Froendsprice....i also have a small Side Business with Laser engraving and Sublimation. You give them a Finger and they pull Out the entire Arm. So i stopped doing those Discounts. If they want multiple Items i give a small Discount Bit thats IT.
It's all self inflicted brother. Know your exact costs and know your net rate. You want to get your name out there and get reviews so be prepared to settle for a lesser net rate. However, be up front and explain your standard rate and that you're giving a discount THIS time for a specific reason. That will help you in the long run because friends, family, customers will reach out to you every year if you're the cheap guy but you'll be net zero and flounder. It's a fine line between getting established and turning a profit.
