I'll help you Nat This song was recorded on the Slippery When Wet Tour the iconic tour where they did 300 shows in 300 days He talked about how the life of a rock star your on the road you see cold faces because you don't know them ur gonna see them one day and they are gone forever you will never see them again. It gets so hectic that you can sometimes only tell what day it is from the bottle you're drinking. How does he know promoters and fans ant you are dead or alive they have paid their money, and the promoters have booked the venue they don't wanna hear ur sick, u had a death in our family or u are tired, they do not care that your flights are delayed that is why they showed the different weather it is literally u are wanted dead or alive. The steel horse is the bus the plane or the limo whichever way he travels the loaded six-string is his guitar. This song was the first song that showed people the life of an entertainer did you see the exhaustion after their shows Jon the lead singer said sometimes he would sit in his hotel and cry all night he would be so lonely his voice would hurt he would be exhausted but he knew he had to do it all again the next day because he was wanted dead or alive. Amazing song and video thank you

The song is about touring non-stop and being wanted to play shows by promoters dead or alive (sarcastically of course)...the Steele horse is the tour bus and the six string on his back is the guitar 🎸

It's a double neck guitar. In this case a six string and twelve string. Sometimes they're two six strings, but tuned differently or with different pickups for each neck to have a different sound. They're often used in live shows for songs that have two very different sounds in a song, but played by the same guitarist. In this case, it's so he can play the very recognizable intro (which is repeated throughout the song) and chorus on the twelve string, then the lead on the six string, without having to play it all on a traditional six string. Playing the intro and chorus on a six string wouldn't have the sound quality that it does, not being as bright or as full.

Saw various concerts and he never said that in my presence, but OK. Anyway, artists can have the most diverse opinions about their own work. What counts is the audience and critical consensus and, while both are undoubtedly masterpieces, that consensus is clearly oriented in defining "Livin' On A Prayer" as their signature song. A song that, by the way, the band tried to replicate over and over again, both stylistically and lyrically.

The double guitars also can be tuned differently for different parts of a song or just another song to avoid guitar swaps and as @patrickoneill290 said, they could be set up completely different like a six string and a 12 string. Another band that used it was Triumph, check out Lay it on the Line, great song, and Cheap Trick used them a lot to name a couple of bands.

  • @patrickoneill290

So the double neck guitar? One is a 12 string and the other is a 6 string. So you can play nice slow acoustic with the 12 string and with a flip of a switch go to the 6 string and jam, bend the strings and whatnot like hard rock riffs. That's what I think but don't quote me on it lol.

Have you done any "Led Zeppelin"? Stairway To Heaven Live 1973, Jimmy Page and I think, Dazed & Confused as well, are excellent where you see Page playing a double head guitar. Anyways, Bon Jovi took this tune Live on MTV in 1989 "Unplugged" and Barefoot. Already in the works, that performance helped launch "MTV Unplugged" Check out that performance and, there's some super fab performances to check out from there.

He's just saying his life as a musician on the road is similar to being a loner cowboy out on the range in the Wild West, going from town to town, not staying one place for too long, just keep moving on. It's describing the kind of isolating life of touring, but also being successful & doing something special, rocking a million faces, but still tired and you have your bandmates with you, too, who understand you.

Someone probably answered this about the two guitars, but typically the top guitar is a twelve-string for the opening and primary guitar work, and the bottom is a six-string for the solos. Don Felder of the Eagles uses the same for "Hotel California."

Yes the double neck guitar is so Richie Sambora can play both the acoustic part of the song and switch to the electric guitar lead. When I saw them for the Slippery When Wet tour he played that guitar but when I saw them for the New Jersey tour he had an acoustic guitar on a stand with his electric guitar slung on his back and he went back and forth. The double neck is easier for that transition but also a heavier guitar to lug around the stage.

Here's another new band to give a listen, if interested. "Oceans (Live) - MTV Unplugged -Pearl Jam" (by the channel: Pearl Jam) --This song by Pearl Jam is from their debut album called "Ten" released in 1991. Featuring lyrics written by lead vocalist Eddie Vedder and music co-written by Vedder, guitarist Stone Gossard, and bassist Jeff Ament, this song is a beautiful tune that captures the bands alternative rock and grunge sound.
