Hi everyone! Happy Crafty Friday!! Yes, Create This Book did win the poll, BUT something exciting came up there - I'll explain when the video goes up next week!! I hope you enjoy this craft kit testing video instead - it did get 2nd place, so I know a lot of you wanted to see it. What are your plans this weekend?! I'm having a relaxing evening at home with Craig. We are making a home-cooked dinner, playing with Leo, and having a game night. Thank you so much for watching! Hope to see you back next week. ♥︎ Sarah
Thank you so much for this video. I've never used a loom before and got this for my 9 year old for Christmas, and the video instructions Melissa & Doug refers to just takes you to the product page - with no video. My daughter had started tying each piece of yarn to each line on the loom until we found your video. Thank you!!
There's probably big loops on the side because you weren't supposed to go around the wooden dowels, you were just supposed to go around the outside strings. And then that wouldve made it square too. Just a thought, not trying to be rude or anything.
I'm not positive, but I believe with this type of weaving you generally do not go around dowels - like you said. However, since this one is marketed toward children, the instructions actually say to do that. I did remove the dowels at the end & it seems to work just fine without them. They are probably included for more stability & to help kids have even tension with the yarn.
This is a good and versatile loom. You had user issues not merchandise issues. Perhaps stick to crafts that you are interested in to give an honest review. Just saying.
Gigi- come on now.. She *did* give an honest review.. *Just saying*. lol Check yourself. She *complimented* the quality of materials for a 6+ kids kit, (yarn, frame, & tools) *never* saying that it wasn't a "good" or "versatile" loom. *If* you had paid *ANY* attention to the video/her words, *you would have known* :she quite obviously had *0* issues with the product itself. (And your little jabs/filling words in for her wouldn't exist in the comments) Rather, the instructions were the issue- more than likely lacking in detail. (Since, y'know, it's for ~6 year old kids) *How* would she know if she was interested in this craft without trying it? Pretty sure *you* wouldn't be able to answer that without giving it a go either. In the beginning, she *clearly* states this was one of the next crafts voted on by her viewers, so that's why she even messed with it. *Just saying* 🙄 She did a great job showing others what to expect- when you solely follow instructions trying out a new craft for the first time. *Just sayin* 😙 Even not being her cup of tea, and having her coaster not come out as she expected, she gave an honest review. She didnt "blame" the loom for that result, nor said anything negative about the craft itself. She simply tried it out!
Hey Sarah, just thought I'd comment on this loom and let you know what I think. As someone who does this kind of weaving from time to time, the problem with this loom is that it is certainly not built for yarn weaving at all. The notches at the bottom are spaced WAY too far apart. Even with a chunky yarn, this wouldn't be ideal. This is why when you tied the ends, they bunched up like a bow shape. This loom would be great for rag rug making though, using 1"-1.5" strips of fabric yarn instead. Thanks for the honest review. Do the wood burner next!
Hey, looks like your warp (vertical) threads that you looked around the frame originally had the yarn stretched too tightly. The weft (horizontal) threads were much looser, hence it ended up distorted. Even tension is key. Oh, and do the wood burner next! 😊
OMG I LITERALLY JUST RECENTLY DISCOVERED LOOM KNITTING BUT WITH THE SMALL ONES AND I AM OBSESSED!!😍 I was so excited when I got this video notification 😂💛
I have some older loom knitting videos about making bracelets & flowers with a Wonder Knitter! That one is much more enjoyable for me. I've also done a hat/beanie with a larger round loom. 😊 Thank you for watching!
I don't blame you for being frustrated with this. I cannot see a 6-8 year old sitting long enough to do all that you had to do to make the coaster and I can almost hear the melt down when the project does not turn out as expected. But, I have to say, I do like the fish! I wonder if you could "block" the coaster square, by getting it into a square shape, pinning it, and spraying it with water and letting it dry. We do that in crochet and it works! LOL! I'd love to see the wood burner next! Can you draw with it? It would be cool to see you burn an owl into wood!
That sounds like a very nifty technique. And, I'm looking forward to testing the wood burner soon!! I believe at least one of the interchangeable tips allows for fine details. Thank you for watching & voting!
We did some looming projects for art class in middle school and high school, and basically you can do it without buying an actual loom. We used cardboard form a cereal box, cut in the spaces at the bottom and top once you had the length you wanted, and then you put your yarn thru those slots and tie it off at the corners. It really reduces the loop problem too, as you're basically making it the size you want ahead of time. You can also do different loop patterns too, like instead of doing the every other one, you can do every other two, and so on. I think having a smaller space for the coaster would have worked a lot better, which isn't your fault.
Woodburner! Also the love for bows is real! You make bows subconsciously lol. I thought it looked like a bow too when you showed it. I would've believed you if you said you wanted it to be a bow shapped coaster lol.
I just bought this loom. At first I didn't like it, but if you double warp it and keep your warp tight enough, you can create pretty decent work with medium yarn.
PERFECT & looking forward to seeing more of your videos. I'm actually buying this for my mom and needed to see if it is something I think she might be able to do. Kind of out of the normal, but as I search for crafts & such, I'm thinking of both my mother & granddaughter. With a little help at the beginning & definitely at the finish I think she and my granddaughter will be able to do this. I think the reason that the #s are on the front, is for the younger brains learning to put their #s together/in sequence. I'm wondering if something I modge podge on the pictures, can turn them in to nice little placemats. Thanks for the video & details.
I've done some yarn weaving and enjoyed it. I think the dowels were an attempt to keep from getting a )( shaped vertical edge . I think the yarn was stretched when it was put on the loom, so the coaster ended up anything but flat. Anyway, no critism of you intended. Thanks for showing something i didn't even know existed. (And I work in a craft store, lol)
Nailed it !! I just got one it only cost me 9.00. Not to bad. It does take a while to get it right. And you can make wall hangings using different material.
I do have to agree with you Sarah on the paper version of the weave I know for a fact that when I was six which was many, many, many years ago I would not have had the patience to do that let alone the attention span to finish it. I'm in my late twenties and I still wouldn't have the patience to do something like that but that's just me LOL!
Great video and your cat is adorable! I had a ginger tabby once and he had a PURRsonality! I actually bought this loom for myself, as I‘ve seen adult versions of this style loom and I think this will be fun to while away winter evenings.
Start weaving about 3" from the bottom and leave 3" at the top . When you knot the strings on the top and bottom don't pull them tight and it should stay square. Everything else looked right!!! Happy weaving!!!
SaltESarah! I am here for it! 😂 I'm a knitter so I love yarn crafts and tedious crafting, but this kit is definitely not worth the time it took. I vote for the bead maker next. :)
Haha Yess!! 😂 Have you used the Wonder Knitter? I've made bracelets & flowers with that in the past. I find the round looms a lot more enjoyable with the looping & pulling involved. Thank you for watching & voting!
My kitten was sitting next to me while I watched this video and when you were pulling the yarn through, she stuck her paw out and touched the screen like she wanted to play with it😂❤️ Also my vote is for the Poppit clay cakes!
I have a loom from ashfords that I love. I got it for Christmas and have made a few scarves on it already. It is a little bit pricey though as it is almost $150 but it much more satisfying to work on. Also I vote the wood burner.
If it's anything like the photo example of another, more fancy loom I included here I bet I would like that better! Also, thank you for watching & voting.
You did a good job with what you had. I have a real weaving loom that is so much better than this so I would highly recommend if anyone actually wants to do weaving get a good quality loom. Also a real loom weaves much faster I have alpacas and sheep so I spin their fleece then weave it, so I love spinning and weaving so much.
I have a small version of this, I made a small purse and a scarf with it. I just wish it had more yarn to go with it. I still have it and hope to use it in the future.
Lol! I loved watching Leo, gazing wide eyed in the corner of the screen as you were weaving back and forth. 😂 It's so funny! Go back and watch it 🤣 I thought the loom would be different, like a regular loom. But I guess for a kid this is the regular one. I think you did a great job with what you had to work with. Usually there's a wooden piece that comes down on what you've weaved to tighten it up, really well. The fish picture is ridiculous! It's cute and all but way to advanced for a kid. And if you were frustrated how would they feel. I loved the video anyway 😉 I would like you to do the one that you want to do. God bless you Sarah ❤ XOXO
Weaving shuttle probably would have made quite a difference. It looks painfully slow to always pull the full length of the yarn! (I am not a weaver, but still!)
I was SO EXCITED to check out this particular craft kit, and then it doesn't look that great! Lol! 😂 i guess that's the nature of the beast though. I love your work anyway, Sarah! Cannot wait for create this book next week. 🖍🌈

The instructions say go to pagec 7 to learn how to finish with the fringe. You basically cut the loops and tie the pairs together and it leaves it square. I was actually looking for video instructions on whether to tape all of the owl tapestry. I see you did, however in the meantime my dtr figured out from the pictures you just tape the outside edges. There are 4 arrows in the picture that were a bit hard to see on the black and white photos. My dtr finished the owl in 45min, and an extra 10-15 for taping. I appreciate your honesty in saying this wasn't for you, so I thought I'd share my dtrs experience. My dtr really enjoyed this and is excited to make more projects. I just think I may purchase a weaving needle that you can wrap the string around that I saw on a video somewhere as I think that would make the process twice as fast.
Beadmaker. Cute coaster. Note for future weaving, instead of cutting, carefully pull the threads through until you get a long thread then you can weave it in then knot it. 🌞
I just bought this loom and, yes, looks like the notches are too far away from from each other. Thicker yarn might be of use for that kind of design. And I’m not going to throw it away, just will make with the help of nails the notches narrower for finer projects. So the loom will both used for heavy rugs and for delicate weaving.
I had this kit when I was younger and the first craft I did was the drawstring bag,I did it wrong and in 3 days it fell apart. I didn’t do it that wrong!
Wow, I bought this loom and it came with only one ball of yarn. Oh and it didn't have instructions on how to do the weaving😔 It is a good quality loom and I'm making my third rug on it. I really like it!
The wooden dowels were there to keep in from getting the hourglass effect like you did and also I hope you know that you weren’t supposed to use the yarn for the vertical string

Sarah I love your videos
I hope you have a wonderful weekend 😊Bye😊
And I can’t wait for your next video!😆I am so excited
You saved me from making a regrettable purchase. Thank you! My vote is the wood burner. Tfs!
Glad to hear this video was helpful. Thank you for watching & voting!
I think you could make some pretty cute wall hangings if you used some nice, thick yarn.
Thank you so much for this video. I did one of these but not as big when I was 8 or 9 and I loved it but it does take a lot of time. Mine was a lot easier to use than this one.
I’m so glad you tested this because I’ve been thinking about getting one for my classroom!
I have this loom and it's perfect :)
That giant wooden needle seems super useful if you're ever in a craft competition with vampires.
I had this on my birthday I loved it you are amazing

I was just going to ask if you have ever tried woodburning
I just started and it's so much fun!
You make me happy. Its 3am and I cant sleep so u tube videos work to give my brain something fun to deal with

Wood burner because I have been wanting to start wood burning for a while now 😊💜
A couple of years ago, I made my own loom, to make doll clothing ^-^.
Great video and your cat is adorable! I had a ginger tabby once and he had a PURRsonality!

woodburner please and by the way I love your channel
Thank you! ^-^
No problem
It's ok, you are a first timer, it still looks attractive. I like to try that. Thanks for showing.
The bead kit!!!! U are my fave art youtuber Lysm!!!!
Start weaving about 3" from the bottom and leave 3" at the top . When you knot the strings on the top and bottom don't pull them tight and it should stay square. Everything else looked right!!! Happy weaving!!!
That's so cool! My vote is for either the wood burner kit, or the bead maker.
They didn't include a weaving comb (looks like a wide tooth comb that is used to push the yarn or string down)
I want to see either the wood burner or the bead maker next! I cant decide!
@@SoCraftastic I need to find that, it sounds fun!
wood burner.
Also the tangling yarn/string is why weavers use shuttles.
My kitten was sitting next to me while I watched this video and when you were pulling the yarn through, she stuck her paw out and touched the screen like she wanted to play with it😂❤️
Also my vote is for the Poppit clay cakes!
My vote is the beads or clay cake maker. Love the video!
I have this kit and it"s so fun and so easy to use
Thats the loom i have been wanting for my classroom
I own this loom and my kids love it.
It's really sturdy & has the potential to occupy for many hours. I'm glad your kids enjoy it! They must be more patient than I am with weaving.
Actually I have a rug kit that came with sisers and you are one of the most creative TH-camr ever☺️🐰🐻
I find it satisfying to watch someone weaving....anyone with me?
Leo is adorable as usual!!
Wood burner for sure! I’ve been thinking of buying one :)
Yay I’ve been waiting for this vid, thank you 🙏🏻♥️
My sister had a loom as a child, and it had a thing that pulled up the alternate threads and also patted the stitches down.
I love that tree painting!
Thank you!
You did a good job with what you had. I have a real weaving loom that is so much better than this so I would highly recommend if anyone actually wants to do weaving get a good quality loom. Also a real loom weaves much faster
I have alpacas and sheep so I spin their fleece then weave it, so I love spinning and weaving so much.
The wood burner. Send me the loom. I’d love it!!
I have a small version of this, I made a small purse and a scarf with it. I just wish it had more yarn to go with it. I still have it and hope to use it in the future.
I sort of vote for the bead maker. It seems like it could be fun.
The Wood burning kit
Lol! I loved watching Leo, gazing wide eyed in the corner of the screen as you were weaving back and forth. 😂 It's so funny! Go back and watch it 🤣
I thought the loom would be different, like a regular loom.
If I made craft kit the numbers would definitely be on the back. Great video as always
It would look much better. Thank you!
I am new to your channel but I subscribed because from only 2 vids u look like u post quality content and u seem like such a nice person 😍😍😍

I'm confused, I thought Create This Book won the poll? It had 43% and the loom crafting only had 22%.
Me too 🙋🏻♀️
I'll explain in the next Create This Book video! There's a very good reason. 😃
SoCraftastic , ok! I hope we see it soon!

Hi Sarah!!! I love this loom! It is super fun! You are an awesome youtuber!!

I agree the instructions could be a bit more detailed, however, it did say to go to the youtube video for "more detailed instructions " on the instruction booklet. My recent 9 year old set it up herself with only a minor correction as she had initially set it up to pull the dowels from the bottom instead of the top. The wooden dowels were there to keep in from getting the hourglass effect like you did and also I hope you know that you weren’t supposed to use the yarn for the vertical string
