This is the most accurate review of the v9 in my opinion. This is a control frame that rewards good technique. It will give you enough power when you ask for it. Crisp response without being too harsh. Plenty of spin in my opinion. I was deciding between the blade and the Yonex percept 97 and decided on the blade. Felt the blade gives me a little more power when I need it, specially on serves. Percept is a wonderful frame tho. I was also pleasantly surprised with Wilson's quality control(which is usually pretty bad). I got 3 frames from 3 different sources and they are all within one gram of each other in static weight, and balance of the 3 extremely close to one another. Swingweights all feel similar, tho I didn't actually measure on a machine. So no need to modify these to match them. Very happy with the V9. I think it's a great stick for 4.0 and above players.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention the biggest change. The new bumper and grommet technology which allows you to snap in place the grommets much faster and can replace them a lot easier.
@@RacketsRunnersVancouver i change my bumper/grommets pretty often so it matters to me, but i guess for average rec players, they don't worry about little stuff like that

Hello Lucas!!!! I love your channel, I wish I had met you sooner!!!! Please could you tell me where I put the weight on the Wilson Blade 98 v9? I have tried the three and the nine but it makes it very unmaneuverable. On the other hand, at 12 o'clock with 1 gram it goes a little better, at three and nine I only put 1 g, should I counterbalance down or not? I don't like leather grips, knowing that could you tell me the best configuration in your point of view? Do you think it is a better racket than the Pure Aero 100? Big hello!!! Great Lucas!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾
Good review. You did a good job comparing the new version with the previous versions. The info is helpful to existing Blade players who might want to upgrade. For the same reason, it would be helpful to non-blade players if you'd briefly compare this racquet with a couple other popular control racquets. Some people might consider/reconsider the blade given the new improvements.
What an amazing review. Killed it big guy. I wish you'd have a go in the "V8" Noir. Though I'm almost positive that was a v9. That is the blade to have just about perfect. To blade users: Stiff polys at low tension is the play. Think 4g/4g soft and lynx tour in the mid to low 40s.
Thank you very much! I haven't tried the Noir yet but it had that higher swingweight so you could be right although that would be kind of crazy from Wilson.
How does the new Blade compare to the Yonex Percept 100D? I'm currently split between the Blade 16/19 V8 and the Percept 100D, now I have to take the Blade V9 in consideration...
do you have the Blade 2013 (all black)? Can you compare both? I tested the 2013 from my teacher today and love it. I dont have how to test the V9 before buying one
Hey Luca, great review, thank you. SW to high for me, I'll keep my v8. Question, what is your string set up? I see you had the same string on v8 review.
I haven’t heard any other reviewer mentioning the occasionally inconsistent behaviour of V8 where ball could be lost on the stringbed and sail long (too much of a trampoline effect sometimes that reminded me of clash) while V9s string behaviour / response is way more consistent and solid on how it hugs and releases the ball. You are becoming GOAT reviewer. You and ACTennis! To me V9 is a better racquet than V8 even than if the feel is a little bit more muted. You also get a little bit more power and more torsional stability. V5 is still king in terms of connected feel…. and it was also arm friendly with tons of power….. those companies keep introducing technologies with no reason but for pure marketing differentiation. Nevertheless V9 is the best Blade since V6…. but to me they must return back to 65 flex. That’s why i am so interested this year to test those new Dunlop CXs. ❤
@@SimurghMyTube I didn’t test new speed mp since it’s more muted than v1 auxetic and thicker compared to older speeds which i much prefer. Like the graphene xt sinner is using for example.

Hi Luca, great review as always. I'm in the market for a new racquet and considering between the Blade v9 16x19 and the Shift 300. How would they compare? Thank you!
Thank you! They are two pretty different rackets; the only real similarity is their precise feel. The Shift has much more spin and power and the Blade more soft control.

I think a really spin friendly poly (something shaped or rough) goes really well with the Blade since it's so close to being elite for spin that kind of pushes it over the edge.

I ask myself: tried speed MP for 3 ours, broken strings 2 times (Hawk 125 first, then Luxilon Element 130). That racquet, for me and my tennis, is a sort of string-eating machine. Tried the new Strike 98 16x19, and loved it, especially on my one handed backhand and on slice serves. Let’s test this new V9 Blade 98 16x19, starting from tomorrow…
Thanks for the top Review Luca! what to say about the V8 Noir? some say it is more rigid, similar to the V9, others say it has the feel of the green V8, but with more power;
Excellent video! I always thought the WO18M would be the control racket that best fulfills all other characteristics (spin etc...). What can the Blade do better?
Personally, I do think so because I think the Blade is made for full poly at this point, but if you have good history with poly/multi hybrid it will be totally fine.
Serve and backhand are top with the V8 but i cant play forehand. I hope the v9 fix that for me . Head prestige pro 16x19 is on sale with no review and i think and some junior serve 230km with that
Now that so many 18 x 20 play like 16x19 I don't think I'll ever go back to an open pattern i play with huge topspin and I feel like my speedpro 18x20 is a magic wand
So are you telling me that if I was planning to upgrade my 2015 Blade 98 to the Blade 98 v9, I should not do it? 😪😪😪 then the better option is to wait till it breaks to change it or what? 🤔
Another 2 great points where you mention that V9 gives you a more heavy ball hitting experience when you go for it which is un-cupped in a way because it depends on your level…. I got exactly the same feeling. The better i hit the more power I could extract and not the easy power in terms of depth V8 is more capable of but wit no weight behind the ball……
Do you really think that it has better spin than other control rackets? I’m using a Yonex VcorePro 18x20 from 2019 and it has a remarkably surprising spin (I haven’t tried the Percept 18x20 yet but from what I understand the spin is not as good). I’ve played with the gen 8 Blade 16x19 and it wasn’t even close to my VcorePro’s spin potential. How much better spin does the new version have? I’m asking since my son uses the gen 8 version and he would benefit from a better spin. He refuses to even try other rackets than the Blade and is a die-hard fan of it.
He could get a bit more spin at of this one than the 8, but it's not a huge change. Compared to other control frames though, yes, there is noticeably more snapback especially when comparing it to an 18x20.
Which racquet do you recommend for an intermediate player with all around balance, bias towards control, arm friendly? Blade 98 16x19 V9, Head Radical MP 2023, Pure Aero 98 2023, Head extreme tour, Yonex ozone 98
I just bought the Blade 100L 16X19 which I have not swung yet. The stiffness rating is 68 according to the internet, but that is not posted by Wilson in their published specs that I can find. I'm getting back into the game after 30 years. I played with flexible rackets which I loved for the spin. What I should play with now as a senior with a bad elbow is contradictory (of course). Stiff, light and loosely strung VS flexible and tightly strung. Any opinions?
I think you will be all good with the Blade 100L despite Wilson's stiffness claims. And just throw in, like you said, a soft string at a loose tension.
While v8 Blade is anemic compared to Blade Pro, how is your take in v9 Blade vs Blade Pro? Is it more comparable now or the BP still the more superior racket for those who can swing it?
I've never played with a Blade Pro or H22 unfortunately. I'm trying to get my hands on one but what I would expect is a much more difficult frame that may be more rewarding but much less appropriate for the general public.
Seems like the change from the v8 is very marginal. In playing, did you feel a huge difference from the v8? Seems the changes/improvements are just a “bit”
Please recommend Head Speed MP vs Blade 98 16x19 or the others for beginner(3month). Want to have control, spin and lower stiffness. Thx for good videos! :)
60 RA is kind of low, Dunlop brought their new CX Tours up to 65 RA, maybe compare the new CX Tour from Dunlop? I have the 2021 CX Tour 16x19 and it’s softer than the V8 blade, better feel on the elbow.
Hey Luca, huge fan of the channel. I saw that you’ve also reviewed the PS gen 4 and I was curious on what your main differences were between that and this blade v9. Do you have a preference?
It performs best when it is used by high intermediate to advanced player because it is a 98 thus the sweet spot is small and power is bad for lower swing speeds
I've been playing with a KTour Team FX for the past 10 years and was thinking about getting a Clash 100 v2 or a Blade 98 v9, does this make any sense? I have zero knowledge on rackets. Would love if somebody could help me. I like to play aggressive and force top spin shots (but have trouble controlling the game), right forehand and 2 arms backhand.
@@RacketsRunnersVancouver thank you! my teacher just recommended the blade for me as well. but he was very incisive anout the 18x20 and not the 16x19. is there a big difference between these 2?
Honestly, I never considered the blade a pure control racket because wilson always has the six one. I always saw it as a jack of all trades, but more on the control side. Like a radical maybe?
It has more control than the current Radicals, but I understand what you're saying. I do think the 18x20 is a pure control racket though; it has all the ingredients maybe with a sprinkle of jack of all trades in there as well.
Big mistake everyone! The blade has a *21 mm* constant beam, not 22!

Yes! It's a noticeable change in feel.
Please recommend Head Speed MP vs Blade 98 16x19 or the others for beginner(3month).
Want to have control, spin and lower stiffness. Thx for good videos! :)
Go for the Speed; it's much more forgiving.
60 RA is kind of low, Dunlop brought their new CX Tours up to 65 RA, maybe compare the new CX Tour from Dunlop? I have the 2021 CX Tour 16x19 and it’s softer than the V8 blade, better feel on the elbow.
I'm not sure we're bringing in the new Dunlop sticks 😭
Hey Luca, huge fan of the channel. I saw that you’ve also reviewed the PS gen 4 and I was curious on what your main differences were between that and this blade v9. Do you have a preference?
I'll do a more detailed review between the two in the next month or so.
looks like your're hitting with the tenncom youtube channel guy.. anyhow, nice review :)
Yessir! Thank you!
Really enjoy your channel! Would love to see a review on the blade 100 v9.
Can you please review the Blade V9 100? Maybe also a comparison w the 98?
I'll try to get a review done when it comes in.
is it a good racket for beginner???
It performs best when it is used by high intermediate to advanced player because it is a 98 thus the sweet spot is small and power is bad for lower swing speeds
Yonex v core pro 97 user. Single handed backhand. Should I go for this? 16x19 or 18x20??
Try this or the Percept, but if you do switch, go for the 16x19.
Great video … very thorough .. just bought one.. it’s very nice… you should lose the invisiline before filing these. :)
Thank you very much! No invisalign anymore - haven't had one since 2016 😅
Hi Luca, great review! Would you recommend Blade for one handed backhand?
Yes, it's a great racket for a one-hander.
Better than the 18x20?
That's a really tough one... I'll have to spend more time with the 18x20.
Strange: no mentioning of how it compares to 18/20. Also some notes on how it compares to ProStaff X would be much appreciated by many.
It's a very different racket to the Pro Staff X so kind of hard to compare the two IMO. The 18x20 review will be coming soon!
Go for the Blade not the Clash. The Clash isn't the best for aggressive play since it's a little mushy but the Blade will be great.
Is it a good idea stringing the blade v9 with the head lynx tour 17?
Yes, that's one of my favourite string/racket combos.
Love your reviews. so passionate and easy to understand for everyone. Could you please make a comparison with strike 98 gen 4?
Yes! Comparisons are coming.
Every generation of the Blade, did you have the V6 non-CV? How does that roughly compare to the V9 for feel and playability?
I'll answer this in the Q&A.
18x20 string pattern want to knows if its still in B category?
Review coming this week!
@@RacketsRunnersVancouver just do it😆
Blade or new strike ?
Worth a comparison 👀
