No one ever schooled Hitchens. And if someone got close, it most definitely was not Buckley.

Here is Buckley standing up for the imperial status quo. He is erudite in style but very shaky on substance. The pubic often swallowed his intellectual plumage whole. . We the people are no less gullible today although we continue to choke on the feathers.

Hitchens core point in this is that US interference in Iran was, as in many US foreign policy disasters, a mistake that the results of which are still being felt in todays world long after these two intellects are dead. Always felt Buckly was a bit too pompous and affected.

"The Shah, who was rather liberal-minded, as these people go." The racism! Hitchens should have called him on that!

They have both passed away, always enjoyed Buckley, well spoken man who at his core tried to leave the world in a better place.
Unbelievable conversation where they matter of factly discuss political overthrows and the officers involved. Bill throwing in his support of the mulahs as traditionalists and Hitchens interupts they are back in numbers.

I didn’t hear what you heard; I’d say Hitchens has the better point. Explain.

Has anyone looked into the coup d'état of 1979 where the West removed the Shah and replaced him with the ayatollahs? BTW, one of the lovely ayatollahs just went to meet his maker after his helicopter crash!
