Before the coming of Islam, Arabia was a land of idol-worshippers. The people of Arabia practised all sorts of vices, and they committed the vilest crimes. Murder was common, women were treated worse than animals; Durant notes that, when a woman’s husband died, she became the wife of her son.[29] Slaves and the poorer people had no protection from stronger tribes, and, worst of all, many Arabs used to bury their female babies alive, considering the birth of a daughter to be a “disgrace”.[30] Smith relates the following: “The most barbarous practice of these “times of ignorance”, was the burying alive of female children as soon as they were born; or worse still, as sometimes happened, after they had attained the age of six years. The father was generally himself the murderer… He led her to a pit dug for the purpose, bade her look down into it, and then as he stood behind her, pushed her headlong in, and then filling up the pit himself and levelled it with the rest of the ground.”[31] Such barbarism was the norm of this uncivilised nation. However, in the year 610, when Allah revealed the Qur’an to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), a new way of life began to develop; all evil, such as idol worship and the burying alive of female babies, were forbidden completely by Islam.[32] The Prophet’s message was simple, yet powerful, as Gibbon notes. Edward Gibbon (1737-1794), who was seen by many to be the greatest historian in England during his era, wrote regarding Islam: "'I believe in One God and Mohammed the Apostle of God,' is the simple and invariable profession of Islam. So they had to leave secretly, in small numbers; the Prophet Muhammad left last, along with the few Companions who remained, such as Abu Bakr and Ali.[37] When the people of Medina saw the arrival of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), they were overjoyed and welcomed him into their city, appointing him as their leader. Medina had, before the arrival of the Prophet, been torn apart by war amongst several tribes; but the Prophet Muhammad immediately solved the disputes.[38] Not all Muslims had managed to leave the city, though; some, mostly slaves, had not been able to go to Medina. The Prophet and his Companions were saddened by the fact that these Muslims were still persecuted by the idol-worshipping Meccans.[39] Eventually, the Meccans marched an army against the Muslims in Medina, and a war between the Muslims and Meccans ensued. It resulted in the Treaty of Hudaibiyah, in which both sides agreed not to attack the other. The tribes allied with either the Muslims or Meccans were also guaranteed safety. During this time, many Meccans and Arabs from other areas of Arabia converted to Islam. However, as Scott writes: “With an magnanimity unequalled in the annals of war, a general amnesty was proclaimed and but four persons, whose offences were considered unpardonable, suffered the penalty of death.”[41] The Prophet Muhammad said: "I speak to you in the same words as Yusuf spoke to his brothers. This day there is no reproof against you; Go your way, for you are free."[42] “The arrival of Islam,” declares Al-Djazairi, “gradually began to transform Arabia. Many changes will be considered in the following chapter. Muhammad is the only prophet I can find in any religious texts that would be asked a question and then miraculously receive a message from God that answered the question whereas most other prophets seemed to get their messages in either a long meeting or in direct prayer. thousand of years ago slavery was common in the world christianity and judaism encourged slavery but Islam changed the way in which slavery was dealt with; it created many new ways of liberating slaves, blocked many ways of enslaving people, and established guidelines which blocked these means Capture of prisoners during war was the most common way of acquiring slaves. Indeed the Muslims have been commanded to hear and obey even if a slave is appointed in charge of their affairs. embracing Islam was superseded by the mujahid’s prior right to take possession of him before he became Muslim, and it would be unjust and unfair to annul the prior right because of a subsequent right, as is well known to all wise people.
Yes, it is good for the master to free the slave if he becomes Muslim. The Lawgiver enjoined and encouraged that, and opened many doors to it. Glory be to the Most Wise, the All Knowing. “And the Word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and in justice. None can change His Words. And He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower” [al-An’am 6:115].

This hadith was also mentioned by Shaykh al-Albani (may Allah have mercy on him) in ad-Da‘ifah (6013); he said it is fabricated
And Abu Afak Abu ‘Afak was a noteable man from the Jews who used to abuse the Prophet, (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), with his poetry and instigate the people against him, so one of the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, whose name was Saalim ibn ‘Umayr, went to him and killed him. Before the coming of Islam, Arabia was a land of idol-worshippers. The people of Arabia practised all sorts of vices, and they committed the vilest crimes.
Murder was common, women were treated worse than animals; Durant notes that, when a woman’s husband died, she became the wife of her son.[29] Slaves and the poorer people had no protection from stronger tribes, and, worst of all, many Arabs used to bury their female babies alive, considering the birth of a daughter to be a “disgrace”.[30]
Smith relates the following: “The most barbarous practice of these “times of ignorance”, was the burying alive of female children as soon as they were born; or worse still, as sometimes happened, after they had attained the age of six years. The father was generally himself the murderer… He led her to a pit dug for the purpose, bade her look down into it, and then as he stood behind her, pushed her headlong in, and then filling up the pit himself and levelled it with the rest of the ground.”[31]
Such barbarism was the norm of this uncivilised nation. However, in the year 610, when Allah revealed the Qur’an to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), a new way of life began to develop; all evil, such as idol worship and the burying alive of female babies, were forbidden completely by Islam.[32]
The Prophet’s message was simple, yet powerful, as Gibbon notes. Edward Gibbon (1737-1794), who was seen by many to be the greatest historian in England during his era, wrote regarding Islam:
"'I believe in One God and Mohammed the Apostle of God,' is the simple and invariable profession of Islam. The intellectual image of the Deity has never been degraded by any visible idol; the honours of the prophet have never transgressed the measure of human virtue, and his living precepts have restrained the gratitude of his disciples within the bounds of reason and religion."[33]
Islam, according to Gibbon, is "More pure than the system of Zoroaster, more liberal than the law of Moses, the religion of Muhammad might seem less inconsistent with reason than the creed of mystery and superstition which, in the seventh century, disgraced the simplicity of the gospels."[34]
The Prophet Muhammad, acting according to Allah’s commands, forbade the worship of idols, murder, oppression of the orphans, widows, and slaves; the Qur’an declares that the burying alive of female babies is a grave crime[35]: “Indeed ruined are those who slay their children out of senseless ignorance and forbid the sustenance which Allah has bestowed upon them, in order to fabricate lies against Allah; they have undoubtedly gone astray and not attained the path.”[36]
Some Muslims followed the Prophet, but many idol-worshipers rejected Islam. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his Companions were persecuted for around ten years; many Muslims were tortured; some were even killed by the idol-worshipping Meccans. Eventually, in the year 622, they left their native city of Mecca and travelled instead to Medina. The majority of the people of Medina had already converted to Islam at the invitation of the Prophet; they asked him to come to them, which he and his Companions did. When the Muslims left Mecca, they were forced to leave all their possessions behind; if they tried taking their possessions with them, the Meccan idol-worshipers would realise that they were leaving, and would torture or kill them. So they had to leave secretly, in small numbers; the Prophet Muhammad left last, along with the few Companions who remained, such as Abu Bakr and Ali.[37]
When the people of Medina saw the arrival of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), they were overjoyed and welcomed him into their city, appointing him as their leader. Medina had, before the arrival of the Prophet, been torn apart by war amongst several tribes; but the Prophet Muhammad immediately solved the disputes.[38]
Not all Muslims had managed to leave the city, though; some, mostly slaves, had not been able to go to Medina. The Prophet and his Companions were saddened by the fact that these Muslims were still persecuted by the idol-worshipping Meccans.[39] Eventually, the Meccans marched an army against the Muslims in Medina, and a war between the Muslims and Meccans ensued. It resulted in the Treaty of Hudaibiyah, in which both sides agreed not to attack the other. The tribes allied with either the Muslims or Meccans were also guaranteed safety. During this time, many Meccans and Arabs from other areas of Arabia converted to Islam.
However, the Meccans broke the treaty and massacred a tribe who was allied with the Muslims, sparing neither women or children.[40]
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his Companions set out for Mecca. The Prophet marched with 10,000 Companions, and the Meccans were routed. The Meccans expected the Prophet to kill them all because of their crimes against the Muslims; after all, the Meccans had persecuted, tortured, and driven the Muslims out of their native city of Mecca. However, as Scott writes: “With an magnanimity unequalled in the annals of war, a general amnesty was proclaimed and but four persons, whose offences were considered unpardonable, suffered the penalty of death.”[41]
The Prophet Muhammad said: "I speak to you in the same words as Yusuf spoke to his brothers. This day there is no reproof against you; Go your way, for you are free."[42]
“The arrival of Islam,” declares Al-Djazairi, “gradually began to transform Arabia. Many changes will be considered in the following chapter. Briefly, here, these include believing in Allah, alone, performing daily prayers, and other religious obligations, reforming the status of serfs and slaves, improving the condition of women by restricting polygamy, placing restraints upon divorce, securing to widows immunity from destitution, and preventing female infanticide.”[43]
Le Bon writes the following in regards to the practice of female infanticide (killing of female babies) that was prevalent among the idol-worshipping Arabs before Islam: “Cays, a chief of the Benu-Tenim tribe one day met with the Prophet who had one of his daughters seated on his lap.

Muhammad is the only prophet I can find in any religious texts that would be asked a question and then miraculously receive a message from God that answered the question whereas most other prophets seemed to get their messages in either a long meeting or in direct prayer.
