I just started learning this song for a new set list. Never learned it in my 20s when it came out but glad to find this video to explain things more clearly.
Thanks Ryan!! Huge GreenDay fan and I was happy when I was able to play this for the first time!! I started guitar at age 52. I’m 57 now! Thanks really appreciate your videos!!
I’m so far behind.... gona chill and do some relaxing rock scheduling tomorrow while catching up on RLTV Happy long weekend buddy and friends Great song choice... love these fun pseudo punk tunes... 🤘🤘
Can you do an E guitar cover of Basket Case please? Include the acoustic guitar, SG bass and Telecaster with Gibson burstbucker pickups and sing the lyrics.
Hey man, I’m not huge on commenting, but I have to drop you a great job “ ego boost “ compliment; not just on this video, but all of the Green Day video’s you’ve made ( they are the only videos that I’ve seen). I was a singer in bands in the early mid 90’s but never played an instrument. A trip to the flea market last year with my wife, changed all that, as I got a $100 Squire for Valentines Day. Now I have 12k in gear and a small recording studio ( the value of my equipment, doesn’t match my guitar skills in any way). Back to you though, power chords are what I play most ( that old story), and you are the absolute man, for teaching! I’m a middle school science teacher, so I recognize talent. So, now that that’s out of the way, I’d like to ask you, if you have any tips on learning the transition from 6th string power chords down to 5th string power chords? I put the guitar in Drop C to perform to my students a lesson on sound waves , see video: th-cam.com/video/31CI637nXeE/w-d-xo.html But, I want to be able to transition more easily in drop D... my fingers don’t seem to get in the right place with the right pressure in time, highly frustrating.. Again, you’re the man...
I watch them to, I’ve been surprised many times and little things I miss when learning a song, they’re usually not very important parts but somethings gives you the right sound that’s suppose to be in the song, perfect example with basket case is the outro, for the longest time I played it E power chord to C sharp power chord, after watching this it sounds like the record!
Here's a triple request for you on this fine Saturday, Ryan. Can we please add Like Suicide album version, acoustic version, and Chris Cornell's solo acoustic version to the list? :)
what a rabbit hole!! by acoustic version, I assume you mean my take on it, since the only other options would be chris' solo acoustic version or just playing the exact same thing as the electric version but on an acoustic guitar?
@@RyanLendt No, I mean the acoustic take that they put on the deluxe version of Superunknown. It's very similar to the electric album one, but my ears hear a few differences here and there. I think... Hehe :)
I had the craziest dream. You were on my tablet and I asked you a question. You answered back. You talked about hamsters on horses and The A team. Weird.
I'm afraid you'll have to be more specific, you see I seem to have a problem where I could talk about anything for hours so I need a specific question 😇
9/8/19. Ryan, can you explain these lyrics in this “Basket Case” song: “ I went to a whore. He said my life’s a bore. So quit my whining cause it’s bringing her down”? So the whore is a “he”, but the whining is bringing “HER” down? What? Is the whore a he/she or what is going on here with these lyrics?........... I’m the 66th comment and the 66th like. And I was just writing about double numbers to you about 3 days ago on 9/5/19. 9+5+19=33. 3+3=6. I told you I would hit the like button if someone broke that double number and you wanted to know what happened there? Well, someone broke the number 22 and I hit the like to be 24. 2+4=6. A lot of 6s here, the devil’s number. I’m saying a prayer to Jesus. Take care, Ryan.
haha lots of 6's there MM. I'm afraid I cannot shed any light on that lyric.. maybe he meant she twice but he was just kind of unclear in that particular take... who knows :)
This was a super treat this morning! Hello summer of 94'
happy you're pleased madame secretary :)

It's always fun to visit YOUR channel!
the putin in me is pleased ;)
Thanks for that one! I love that song, reminds me when I was a young and carefree student... (A long time ago in a galaxy far far away...)
not so much to be young, you're as young as you feel... but oh to be carefree again :)
Awesome classic Green Day, can’t say more than that! Thanks Ryan 🧺 🧳

Hey Ryan. You have teached me alot and I'm not a punky guitar player anymore. Please do BLEED TOGETHER BY SOUNDGARDEN
I agree with this 👍
I'm so glad to hear that Woj!! thanks for the vote guys!!
Go, Flyers!
great video!
thanks BA!

Great video Ryan. My suspisions paid off. You are goofy and interesting and a damn good teacher
haha I'm glad to be with you during this time Dan :)
I just realized I said suspensions and not suspicions like I meant. Gotta love spell check lol
haha I thought you were taking a forced leave of absence from work!
i can play basket case now! thanks ryan! ❤️
yay!
I feel like im the only one who watches lessons even though I already know how to play this song
well, I watch them too sometimes before i publish them to make sure I didn't commit any egregious errors... does that count? :)
@@RyanLendt Sure😅
I just watch them for some extra tips

You should do Am I Evil by diamond head
I've never heard of that, thank you Steve :)
Is this the one Metallica covers?
@@archerkane7193 yeah but I like the original better
How about teach us some Live, anything off the Throwing copper album 🤘🏼
I've done 2 or 3 off that album I do believe - check the live playlist!
I must’ve missed them, I’ll look again, thanks!
Why detune? when power chords like this couldn't you just play one position lower? Or am I missing some music theory along the way? :)
haha - well it's all for the second to last chord. you couldn't play the low low E without detuning
Came here to ask the same thing! Thanks, both!
Great lesson/video as always Ryan!!
Also, do you play the mandolin?
thank you Archer! I've never even picked up a mandolin... perhaps never seen one in person :P
@@RyanLendt oh okay, I was hoping to get a Rise lesson from you 😉

Copy that sloth!
@@RyanLendt Although now that you mention it, your take on an acoustic campfire version isn't the worst idea I've ever heard :)
Green Day is just one of those bands I could never get into. Great lesson as usual though.
I certainly like playing them more than I like listening to them - but I do enjoy them. Thank you Chad :)
I had the craziest dream. You were on my tablet and I asked you a question. You answered back. You talked about hamsters on horses and The A team. Weird.
weeeeeiiiiird I had the same dream!
😂
Can you learn rivers Cuomo Version. Live where he uses a capo
check out my campfire version
Can you do a lesson on how to make songs like this into more of a campfire style song? Less technical, more sing along-ie. If that’s a word
jerrod Murdock this song is already very simple
I agree it is simple, but I was wondering if there was a way to approach songs to simplify them like campfire songs.
you're going to be pretty happy in about 2 and a half hours Jerrod :)
Theres a rumor floating around about a new green day song coming soon
I appreciate green day still making music :)
@@RyanLendt they still manage to make really good music too
Can you shed some light on the outro man as in what chords are used, some theory kinda stuff
I'm afraid you'll have to be more specific, you see I seem to have a problem where I could talk about anything for hours so I need a specific question 😇
I mean what chords are those exactly, cause I maybe have seen them doing the same thing in other songs too
Why does your BASS have 6 strings?
i took it to the doctor, he said there was nothing we could do
I am normally non believer but I believe this channel's sub count is bugged.
