Sonic games have always had good soundtracks, now we get a game with this metal tracks as well as the cyberspace music and overworld tracks, and EVERYONE is saying how good it is… yet it isn’t even nominated? I’d be interested to see how many people downloaded the God of War soundtrack compared to the Sonic Frontiers ost =.=

I think it’s a good direction for sonic stuff to go. Edgy seeming plot, but it’s kinda silly or just generally uplifting, much better then the “I’m so edgy, I could cut steak with my angst” nonsense they got into for a bit. Also makes some sense from a storytelling standpoint, after all the things sonics been through, he starts to settle back into his more jovial and carefree attitude, but is more aware of the harsher side of reality so he’s a bit more mature, knowing when it’s time to be serious and when it’s time to goof about.
100% agree. Sonic is at its best when it's "fun edgy". The writing team isn't exactly great at serious tone, it usually comes off as kinda stupid when they try. But they're amazingly good at empowering cheese like this, where you're laughing at how ridiculous it is while also hyped up and cheering it on. I agree it’s on Doom levels of deep, but the thing that distinguishes this soundtrack and Doom’s, is that Sonic Frontiers goes for a more high tempo, edgy type of metal, whereas Doom goes for a more slow grudge and more techno-y Metal feeling. Like half of Doom’s soundtrack is composed of computer generated sounds and not a guitar or anything.
I think it's trippy people are so shocked by the music in Sonic Frontiers. It's the first of it's kind if you're being ultra specific. But the amount of different genres Sonic has over the years and how hardcore it's gotten at times makes this not surprising at all. It's only surprising compared to the past 10 years of lighthearted music. We literally have Open Your Heart, Un-Gravitify, I Am (All of Me), Almost Dead and Infinite Theme in this franchise. I know it's not the same thing but they're not the same as each other as well. Just saying.. music like this was always in the realm of possibility for Sonic. lol

I was not expecting the metalcore boss fights when I played the game as I hadn't heard anything about kellin being part of the game. It was such a pleasant fucking surprise to hear when I got to the first boss.

I used a pitch shifter to digitally de-tune my guitar sound so it sounds like a 8-9 string while still being a 6 string. There's pedals that do that like the Drop Tune pedal or software solutions like I was using here which is the Neural DSP amp sim. It's not as ideal as buying a 8 or 9 string but for a quick solution it's pretty good!
The video used is pulled directly from the game it sounds like. Whoever uploaded it took away all the sound effects and character voices for the audio of the track, but seemed to have messed up a little
Musically the song is good, but the vocals kinda weigh it down as they lack bite, grit, edge. Call it what you will but it is missing, and even the screams sound kinda limp. Thankfully however there was a cover by Victor Borba - of Devil May Cry 5's Bury The Light fame - and he blasts the original out the water.
The vocals aren’t so bad at the very beginning when the hype is building, and they’re excellent at the end when the song is winding down. They fit the energy of those parts perfectly. But otherwise I agree. Still, undefeatable is a certified banger.
