Footage is insane
I like the simple layout, simple snap in smart battery. Awesome video and good flight time. Prop lives matter!
Great T-Shirt catch phrase
Fun video ! 😃
Awesome drone.
Double check those props guys !
Great review !
Excellent video,, and excellent flying. Very nice tiny FPV drone. Thank you Steve.
Thank you for watching
I've been waiting for this review! Thank you!❤
You are so welcome!
I had the SAME issue. two props exploded in my first 30 seconds of flight. I contacted iFlight and they want me to take a bunch of photos and give them the blackbox info which i've yet to do. I actually bought some different props and put them on and love them. Gemfan 45mm 1.5 Inch pitch props and havent had any issue.
If iFlight watches my vid, they’ll clue in that it is an issue with their assembly of the props on motor shafts
That’s a little beauty of a quad, love the lights and the video quality as well. I’d rather the bigger size, but I’d consider it for my collection. Thanks for the great video captain.
awsome review Steve.
Great review as usual Capt! Great review!
Thank you kindly!
Have a good weekend always great information
Great job as always on the review.
Thanks for watching
Very nice quad Steve and it’s super small which is nice
Now I want one of these.
Seems like it's becoming all too common for manufacturers to overtighten or otherwise fracture props before shipping. DJI Avata had the same issue.
Another good 1 Steve.
The props flew off my TinyGo on first flight. I know the feeling.
Great video, the image quality is really good, as an Avata owner this is very tempting without having to get extra kit. A cute mini Avata...damn it take my money lol.
Me too, I’ve got the avata but sometimes I want an fpv drone that it have to control just for the challenge, plus the speed of this one looks pretty good .
this is what has got me back into fpv. i used to use an iflight protek35 with a gopro and tbs controller 4 years ago! heavy set up for sure and analog signal broke up so easy in my fatshark googles lol.
now use standard dji drones but now tech has come on so far since id did fpv i'll get this 16 as it's basically the same camera quality as the 20 and 25 but this little guy can fit through the tiniest gabs. thanks for the in depth review too.
Once an FPV Pilot always an FPV Pilot... welcome back
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 thanks man! wish i never stopped! ordering it this week so hope i pick it back up fast
I learned a lot from this channel
i love this drone
I like the set up
The warning is a good warning 😅
the new IN THING, UNDER 250 GRAMS, its where the monies heading. great video.
Camera is really nice 👍🏽 awesome review as usual sir….
Thank you
Good morning captain cool drone nice review
Thanks 👍
I'm a third way through the video and am enjoying the soaring over fields and am watching what's in the box and I thought to myself 6 mins may not be enough time... which drones with little to no geofencing has the furthest range/flight time that you are comfortable recommending? Thank you for another amazing video
Range in the FPV world is often based on battery size in order to fly out and back. This means long range requires the ability to lift a li-ion battery of a minimum of 3000 mAh. (That would get you 30 min on some FPV drones).
Try the FlyWoo Explorer 4 LR with the FlyWoo Explorer 3000 mAh Lion battery pack .. you get 30 min of flight time. I got videos of that on my channel (skip a few months back)
So much fun and less than 250grams. The sub 250 is a big advantage keeping the FAA off your back. Video is great. Not a big fan of propriety batteries but these will have to do. Did the battery stay on when the props came off? I wonder about crashes and the battery staying on. Thanks for a great review as usual. I wouldn’t expect anything less. 👍👍😀
Battery remained locked in place in all crashes. Also zero damaged received in hard landings and crashes.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 that’s a good plus, thanks.
I can handle it! I have self control! Also known as being broke! 😂
Looks amazing little drone do you love its tune while flying ?
Like its speed actually for its size impressive
I flew it with the default running. Flew well for my needs.
Great reivew steve, are iflight aware of the prop issues as im looking at getting this indoor wedding venues
Oh, I’m sure they have fired their prop installer summer student by now 😉
Thanks Steve! Great review.
I notice that in the specs it states that it has a maximum takeoff altitude of 2000m, but there’s no mention of a GPS. How can this be?
Did I miss something?
GPS (rescue) is an option on some drones. Without GPS they just go by physics… weight, size of props, thrust, altitude vs thickness of air
great video sir! does this quad has angle mode?i preffer flying in that mode indoor lol.
Yes, but you may have to set it up in Betaflight if it is not initially active with the radio transmitter you are using.
Auto ISO probably built in to handle low light. Just a guess.
Do you know if I can reverse te throttle on the commander transmitter?
Nice review Steve. Thoughts on it compared to the Pavo Pico? I believe the pico may be quieter?
I have the pico. Very slim frame not designed to take bumps. The Defender comes assembled & ready to go & is designed to get knocked around a bit.
So the Pavo Pico is quieter. How about the Flywoo Flylens 85? Is the Flylens quieter?
I really like your video sir❤
Thank you
great video. how would you compare this to the flylens85 you recently reviewed? I am in the market for a very smooth and agile O3 cinewhoop for use inside and outside. I have the Avata and cinebot30. there are so many options :) thx Captain
Flylens 85 is more agile due to weight and the ability to use different battery weights but it is also more prone to damage in a bad crash. The Defender is a typical workhorse cinewhoop and simple to use, but you are stuck with proprietary batteries.
Great video, as always! Do you know if it is compatible with the DJI integra goggles as well?
Yes the Integra goggles will work
Thanks for the answer. Another question. I fly with throttle reversed. Do you know if I can reverse te throttle on the commander transmitter?@@CAPTAINDRONE798
Would I be correct to assume that using the DJI controller will prevent turning off the video system? That seems like a feature that will only work with a different primary receiver (e.g. ELRS)
Nope, you just assign any switch you desire on the remote 2 for the function of video ON/OFF. You do this in Betaflight. If you are a newbie at this then watch my video entitled: CAPTAIN DRONE FPV FOR BEGINNERS EPISODE 12
Would u review the brother defender 20
Darn, I should have listened to you and not watched the video!! You are right,, now I want one!! haha
great review , what is the flight time with 900maH thanks
6 minutes
Hey Steve what the iflight defender 16 work with the whoopfly16 radio as they are both elrs ??
Possibly, as long as they are both on the same ELRS FIRMWARE
The problem I have with all of them is having no failsafe. All it would need to do is hover in place if signal was lost. I was using the dji setup with a cinewhoop so when it lost video it lost rc control also and fell like a rock to the pavement. Takes the fun out of flying for me. None should start recording until you take off. Thats how my older holybro 2.5 works. Are they learning anything?
Record begins as per how you set it up (in the goggles). Failsafe is also something you setup in Betaflight. You can also setup a different type of failsafe in your radio. By default the failsafe on all FPV drones is the same as on helicopters and RC planes and that is to cut the motors. It can be changed if desired. “Hover in place” on failsafe option requires a GPS rescue module so that the drone remains in position.
Nice video! How can I connect the tango 2 remote control, I already tried the iflight tutorials of connecting and disconnecting usb c 3 times and pressing the small button and the drone does not link, any suggestions?
The method you tried is for ELRS receivers. If you have a Tango 2 then you must follow the process for connecting to CROSSFIRE. You did buy a drone with a CROSSFIRE receiver, right?
Nice kit, great video, pesky mozzies.
Apply some heat to those bites. I mean something like a hot metal spoon straight out of hot water, or one of those rechargeable key chain gadgets available from a popular mail order site. Heat denatures the anticoagulant, instantly the itch I gone. All the best.
Thanks for the tip!
Would it be worth having this drone and the Avata, is there any advantage to this over the Avata ?
The weight is the advantage
How does this compare to the Flywoo FlyLens 85?
Very different. The flylens is more agile but also more prone to damage in a crash. This quad is your typical cinewhoop flyer (do everything quad) but you are stuck with proprietary batteries.
is it self stable? if u take ur hands off controls will it hover alone?
Nope, it will crash. This is not a beginner drone.
Hey new here; does the defender 16 go as high as the dji avata, and is the 16 good in wind conditions?
A real FPV drone like the Defender has no height limitation… you fly as high as you have signal and battery power. Height limitations are a DJI thing.
did you try the 20? haven’t seen any reviews for the 20
I have not tried the 20. It is very similar to the 16 except it runs on a 3S battery vice 2S.
Well done Captain!; loved the Intro and Music!; a quick (and general question); why is the flight time on these types of Drones (compared to say the DJI Mini 3 Pro) so short when you consider they are very light and agile?; also, good to see "Tractor Man" was still in bed however you nearly had something similar to "The cars that ate Paris"; the "dogs that ate a Drone" !!!!
Hi. FPV drones are extremely powerful compared to a gps drone like the DJI mini. This is why DJI was unable to make the DJI Avata under 250 grams because in order to give the drone an over 10 min flight time the battery is large & heavy. The things you can do with an FPV drone are impossible to do with a GPS camera drone.
Many thanks for the explanation Captain@@CAPTAINDRONE798
Question - did iFlight provide the drones?
You asked a question that sounds like you think there is a difference between receiving a discounted drone and full priced one. It works like this… iFlight contacts TH-cam reviewers and let’s them know they have a new product. They send all the specs so that reviewers can decide if they wish the product, and what options are available. Reviews can then select what they want, so the configuration in this video is what was selected by me. Is the drone FREE? Not for me because I live in Canada. I have to pay for shipping, customs and duty which is always over $100. No consider all reviewers do this multiple times per week so $100 easily becomes $500 per week. This is why I only show items on my channel that I personally select as everything has a cost.
For canada which website are you using to purchase drones i will order Zorro then get this drone 250 G i can fly it anywhere or need still license for it ?
IFlight drones are not sold in Canada (not that I’m aware of). I buy direct from iFlight or Banggood.
Hi ! Great video. I’m new to FPV. I want one, specially sub 250g to use in Montreal! I got the avata, can I use the defender 16 with the goggle integra?
Yes but you need to watch my video on TH-cam that explains everything. Do a search for: CAPTAIN DRONE FPV FOR BEGINNERS EPISODE 12
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 got it thanks !
@@CAPTAINDRONE798all set! received my drone. For the VTX on/off in BFlight if I got the Dji remote, wich switch would you recommend using for this one ? Because I already used the one in your video for beginners ? Thank you !
@@MrStoppo31I don’t have a switch preference to be honest. Please note that if the VTX is on a switch, the DJI FPV goggles can take up to 20 to 30 seconds to acquire the signal.
Hi Captain. How do you turn on/off video transmission? Using Realpit board? Or there is a Mode in Betaflight for this? I cant find which
It is simply in the MODES tab of Betaflight Configurator. Have a look and you’ll see it.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 I tried, but couldn't find. All I can think that could be one from those: CAMERA CONTROL 1-3(only for Runcam cameras?), VTX PIT MODE, DISABLE VTX CONTROL. Or maybe I don't see this mode because I have to enable something else? Please let us know how its called this mode.
Its very important for me this, sometimes I can not take off because dji camera overheats while I am waiting for gps sats, I dont understan why nobody talks about this, I couldn't find info about this
@@andrewermicioi5395Ahhh…. You posted a question under the iFlight Defender video so I assumed you were asking about the Defender.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 It only works with Defender? I'm talking about any drone with O3. As I remember, I also saw this info in your another video.
I think this doesn't matter, betaflight options are the same for all drones. So what mode did you use?
Thanks for reply!
I noticed the props are HQ Props. Is it possible that iFlight simply received a batch from HQ that had an HQ quality-control issue? No way for me to know, but interesting that the replacement set of props did not fail. I realize since the props were provided by iFlight, iFlight is the "responsible party," but perhaps the root cause of the prop failure was not the assembly team.
Could be, but you’d think then that iFlight would have caught this. I’ll leave it up to iFlight to sort it out.
Just buy one using u link thanks capitan salute u
Enjoy!
I haven't seen any defender 20 review. Is iflight only giving out defender 16 to all the reviewers?
Correct. Defender 20 is identical to Defender 16 except battery is 3S vice 2S.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Hmm, 1204 vs 1002 motors. ~flys the same 😆
@@CAPTAINDRONE798
I disagree:
defender 16: Dimensions (L×W×H):121x117x47mm
defender 20: Dimensions (L×W×H):135x136x52mm
Also still looking for something about defender 20.
I am thinking a lot about defender 20.
But thanks for the review.
Which one is the fastest? Defender 25, 20 or 16?
25
Awesome. Is that erls?
Mine is ELRS 2.4 ghz
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Cool.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 it will work with Zorro.
How do you set a switch on the controller for the vtx?
Simple. Go to MODES tab in Betaflight Configurator. You’ll know what to do.
Thanks! I'm waiting for mine to arrive so I've been watching all the videos I can. I don't recall seeing that tab before for any of my other quads, is it new for BF4.4? I'm currently on an older one.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798
What settings for 03 u set for low light? What iso was? It was normal or cinelike
Everything was default straight out of the box, so all settings on AUTO.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 but the goggles brightness u turned full up?! At dark time? In the case all recorded video on air unit came darker like if you keep goggles at 0 brightness
@@ldnwalkandfly8617 Nope… I made no change to the Goggles. Everything was on AUTO. The DJI O3 camera is like a Starlight camera and brightens the image when the light is low.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 maybe it make brighter at low light but increase iso do noise levels not for production purposes! And it's the worst camera for low light situations. Btw your goggles by default is 50% increase brightness for viewing so you don't see what you get on air unit, you'll have to lower down to 1 or 2 bars
As a beginner, I need to spend to get the DJI V2 Goggles and a remote controller, so this would cost over $1k.
I wish I could start with this one without spending so much on equipment :(
Excellent video, though. Thank you.
DJI gear is certainly pricey
Just go analog and put a runcam thumb on it.
Props falling off isn’t a good sales promotion at all. iFlight need to sort this out quickly. Good little proximity package though and perfect for towns, car parks and indoors.
I believe they fixed the prop issue. I know someone who bought one recently and the props were fine. The issue was they were pushing the props on so tight that they cracked.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 I'm an avid Avata flyer and love it but could be swayed by this if the prop issue is fixed. Certainly a good proximity option for all tight locations
Nice review. The battery has a very fair price for being "intelligent", but the drone itself is a bit overpriced, isnt it? 450 bucks, for a bit more I'll go for a 5", unless you want to record indoors ofc..
No analog version??
All Digital only
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 tq steve
I watched it , now currently preparing to jump someone.
LMAO
Ok- I was warned !
I checked out their website and you would have to know 20 times what I know about any drone just to make a purchase.
A couple of add on's and long range batteries and you're at 600.00 give or take.
Too far out of my budget and league.
Maybe sometime soon they will be like DVD players and computers and the price will drop so blue collar working class can purchase something that will give them at least a couple of kilometers.
Only 6 minutes of flight time though...
If you are in the FPV hobby, an under 250 gram drone with the DJI O3 camera, at 6 minutes flight time is what one would expect.
Lets call a product "Defender" but prohibit military use for defensive action...
@ $9 bucks a pair for props I think I will hold off buying for a bit. Thanks for the warning.
Look closer… $9 for 12
That’s over weight and loud
Over weight?
