    My dad’s pride and joy during his 30 years of Navy service from WWII, Korea and Viet Nam. I just conditioned his VF 213 Black Lions bomber jacket. He cherished it until he passed at 94 years of age. This carrier and those on board served our country well and deserve a peaceful rest.

    I was stationed aboard the Kitty Hawk from '71 to '73. Some of the best days of my life. From my shipmates to the sheer enjoyment of seeing such things as flying fish, to the pacific ocean as a sheet of glass (yes, just try to imagine that) to Olongapo City (LLBFM)!!!

    • @patrickd2013
      @patrickd2013 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don't have to imagine.... I was on her in the Indian Ocean, and it was so still I remember the full moon being just as vivid in reflection as it was overhead. Days on end, not a ripple, except for our wake. I still have weird dreams of floating between the sky up above and the sky down below. When there is no land in sight to help orient you, the reflections off the calm, limitless expanse can do some funny shit to your mind, especially when it goes on day after day after day!

    The Kitty Hawk was the best part of my Naval career. it is where I grew up, where dedication to duty and hard work was instilled. Thank you to all who were apart of my life on that ship from 93'-98'. i was fortune enough to go on two WESTPAC's and a RIMPAC. I still think it is pretty cool that I was lucky enough to become a Golden Shellback. There is a reason that the Kitty Hawk always received the Golden Anchor. She was the best ship in the fleet.

    I enjoy my tour of duty aboard this wonderful lady from 1978 to 1981. I was advanced twice,2nd class and 1st class petty officer during my tour. I have a very memorable experience and learned about military life even we worked very hard. Still remember when President Carter ordered us to pull out from cubic bay with in 24 hours to proceed to Indian ocean during Iran crisis. The entire battle group stayed in water more 100 days before hitting port. Our deployment end up 12 months but the most important is that we are guarding USA and the American people. Thank you USS Kitty Hawk for allowing me to be on board to serve you.

      Robert, my squadron served aboard the Kitty Hawk 65-67 and a guy that was in the bulges told me he saw USS CONSTELLATION CVA-64 welded on the keel of the Hawk. I have heard other stories from other sources also. They scrapped the Connie, did anyone check the keel to see if it had Kitty Hawk burned into the keel? As of 9/2019 they may recommission the Kitty Hawk as a training ship. I would love to see that happen. They can't build them fast enough! I got some of the Kitty Hawk mess trays at the auction when they sold off the surplus items. You can see her on google earth up there in Washington.
