      It seems more like a multiple course restaurant than edgy. It’s only edgy if you are edgy, it could be very laid back if the person going there was laid back. They didn’t advertise it falsely, the videos they show of the restaurant are exactly they same level of culinary craft I saw here. I’ve seen a handful of her videos from the restaurant, so I didnt expect it to be like her vlogs since I knew that it wasn’t a restaurant that embodied her vlogs but one she created to be something different from that.

      Same I am her for most of the part a regular viewer, I won't say I am a fan or anything beacuse I just don't belive in that culture? It's just often disappointing to watch the reviews and too also feel a gap, the way her vibe is on social media her food feels off, off in a way like I know high end fancy restaurant exist and it's good that you want it but it too does not feel proper in that genre as most of the time people say it's not fulfilling or tasted good, espically given the high price

    This is my two cents: my partner and I dined at Mija Seoul in December 2024. We actually loved it! Not every dish was to our taste, but we expected that going in since it was a multi course tasting menu. The atmosphere was really warm and welcoming, and the staff was fantastic. I always find it interesting how people can have very different experiences of the same food! (Most of our dishes were different to yours, but, in general, I think it’s fair to say people have different tastes.) Anyway, I enjoyed the video and hearing about your experience! 😊

    I think this review is fair. Apologize that I can't remember, but there is this other very famous Michelin restaurant that sort of has a disclaimer saying they will make food you probably won't like. It's just because they want to do something so different that not everyone will enjoy it. I get the feeling of wanting to like something you just don't. I really enjoy Dooby's videos, but even though we will visit Korea soon her restaurant is 1) too far away from where will be 2) not exactly the experience I'm looking for.

      honestly, I really would only go again to give this spot a second chance (since they demonstrated creativity and showed exceptional hospitality). hopefully with more time and feedback, they’ll be able to refine their food and it’ll actually be worth the hype (and $60 haha)

    I genuinely don’t understand people saying that dooby decided to open a fine dining restaurant just because her BF has experience in fine dining. Just because he’s worked in fine dining doesn’t mean he’s only capable of making fine dining food and the decision was ultimately made by her since I’m sure she’s the main one funding the restaurant. There’s TONS of chefs who go working into fine dining and end up working at a more casual place. Also Dooby herself as a creator is so contradicting and completely out of touch I cannot stand some of her tone deaf videos. Mija seoul’s dishes look so pedestrian and it feels like they just rushed the opening just to keep the hype alive with her die hard fans. This place only works because of the celebrity behind the restaurant.

    Mija serves more traditional Korean style dishes with a “modern twist”, so it won’t be as flavorful or taste like western food. It’s more like natural flavors. With that being said, some of the dishes look very small. It’s probably not unique or amazing but it is a dooby experience.

    • @wifimeagan
      @wifimeagan  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      yes this is a good point - many korean dishes tend to be milder than western food so we were mostly comparing to the other meals we had in seoul (which were amazing!). so final take is that mija falls short in comparison to the food you can get throughout the city (other fine dining included) and also has such a high price tag for a pretty mediocre food experience

    For fine dining $60 is nothing. Course menus typically cost $100 to $200. People say they expected cheaper because she makes "soul food", but won't pay attention to Kevin. There is a whole other person who has a passion for cooking too. I get that a lot of people are on the channel for Tina, but it's unfair to randomly insult Kevin when he's working so hard for his dreams. If you really care about Dooby, you would probably encourage her and her boyfriend's relationship and success for their work. Too many of her "fans" insult him for 0 reason.
    Not to mention, it's literally 2 people starting a restaurant. If you watched her videos, you'd know how the property owners were trying to take advantage of her. Or how her parents weren't supporting her. Kicking someone with aspirations down, when they're fighting so hard is low. Seeing a group of losers in the comments happily berating her is really cringey. To all the critics, I'd like to see you do anything half as successful in your lifetime as what this girl has accomplished in her mid twenties.

    • @wifimeagan
      @wifimeagan  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

      $60 is cheap for fine dining but this doesn’t even compare to most fine dining experiences.
      maybe they’re trying to offer fine dining at a more accessible price, but it wasn’t executed well (somehow half of the dishes were monotonous in texture/flavor, wait times were long, waiters didn’t remember that we didn’t order the alcohol pairings, the space was cramped and loud, etc.). I have a lot of admiration for all the hard work that both Kevin and Tina are pouring into the restaurant, but I’m not going to base my review on how much work they put in. plenty of people work hard for their dreams; it’s the execution and final product that matter.

  • @uhhhohh
    @uhhhohh 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

    I watched the entire video. I appreciate both you and your bfs reactions. If I’m being honest, I think both of you seem very rehearsed with your reactions esp your bf. From what I know (and you’ve shown in the video) this restaurant is quite small and intimate, so the fact that both of you felt comfortable enough to film each dish and both your reactions…something about the intention of this review and video seems off. I think it’s one thing to leave a written review post visit, but to film every bite and reaction, while the staff are so close and working, it seems a bit inappropriate. Not to mention, part of the price you’re paying for in “fine dining” is the labor that goes into growing the vegetables in their garden, developing new recipes and flavors, as well as the maintenance of the restaurant and wages of the staff. From my perspective, there seems to be a disconnect in understanding how “fine dining” works and your personal expectations of what the restaurant should be based on what dooby cooks on her personal channel. There’s a reason why fast food is so affordable, the “recipe” for a fried chicken sandwich has existed for a long time. Meanwhile, the combo of let’s say chili oil and sweet potato isn’t as common.
    I think context is important here. From what you’ve shown in the video, both of you seem to disregard the feelings on the staff on site (consent w filming or having them in your video to begin with) and also a lack of respect for the labor and thought that goes behind producing “new food or flavors” that most ppl pay money to try bc it’s…new.

    • @wifimeagan
      @wifimeagan  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +47

      I appreciate the feedback & honesty. The truth is that I deleted a majority of the footage with the intent of showing only our most honest opinions. I will note that we did come in with really high expectations, so our disappointment was pretty elevated as a result of that. Also, our interactions with the staff were very positive (Kevin took a photo of us with our camera and helped explain the menu further, our server even talked to us about how the camera we use is the same camera that Dooby used when she first started making videos, and another server was actually from the same hometown as us).
      I understand the amount of effort that is poured into a farm to table restaurant experience and fine dining recipe development. As mentioned in the video, we really tried to figure out what it is we liked about each dish, but at the end of the day, a big reason why you go to a restaurant is for good food no matter what it’s priced at and that wasn’t what we got.

They captured raw first impression and tbh I’d look disappointed too if I spent money and food turns out not to be as tasty as I expected/not live up to the hype
      This video clearly wasn’t made with the intention to bring the business down. If they wanna to thrive they should welcome all kinds of feedback and improve from that anyway.
      But I do think that in the end, taste is personal, and the fusion-ish Korean theme might be ain’t it for people who are not familiar w/ it, or those who are used to the traditional taste.
