I am soaking my seeds now in January and will see which ones sprout. I will be putting all 32 into a root trainer and leaving them on the widow sill in my studio. I find that each year they take much longer to flower from March or even February so I am bring it back a month to see if I can speed things up. Lu pins are absolutely head turning when they flower and its really exciting to collect the seeds in late Autumn when they die back.
My lupins all seeded in July this year! Ref the seed pods, do you have to leave them on the plant until pods turn black/ ready to pop? Or can you cut off the seed pod stems and keep them somewhere dry and wait for the seeds pods to turn black before shelling the pods/harvesting the seeds? How long do the seeds keep for? If I harvest them now they’ll keep til Feb next year I assume? Do they keep longer in right conditions? I have hundreds of seeds from them! Never going to fit all their seedlings i to my garden!
I grew lupins from seed autumn last year and overwintered them. Popped them into the ground in March as the leaves started growing again. I have red and white lupins - I hope!!
I grew the Russell lupin mix from seeds last year. They only had one flower each and I left the pots behind the garage and forgot about them over the winter. They're all looking fantastic now so I'm hoping for more flowers this year. I also grew a dwarf variety from seeds called Pixie Delight. They didn't have enough bling for me so I won' t bother with those again.
They don't need stratification. Just put them in water overnight. That helps them to swell and the shells to soften. Then sow them about an inch deep in moist multi-purpose compost in pots. I prefer not to sow the seeds in the ground because the slugs like the seedlings. I hope this helps.

That is awesome!
What fertilizer did u use and what zone are you growing them in?
@@kimecosx There were loads more flowers this year. I've got them in pots of multi-purpose compost in the North-East of England.
Thankyou for your help

I love Lupins, you never know when they're going to come back or not ahaha
Got a few on the allotment growing Cheers Ray 🥕🌱🌷
I love lupins, I have two at my allotment I bought in a sale. 🥰
Sir!! What's the right temperature to grow lupins??
Please reply 🙏
I'm just wondering how often do you water them from day 1 until the seeds germinates?
If you sow in moist compost and put a plastic bag over the top you won't need to water them again until the seedlings are up.
I was given a sack of seed pods. It appears they are all yellow, as they start to flower. I have a few hundred planted, so should look good.
do the seeds need stratification? a cold period in order to germinate?
do you have an update on the seedlings? i'm very interested!

Great video ray very informative thank you 🤝
Very welcome
Why not plant plant seedlings into the garden? Why into bigger pots? Thanks for sharing.
These are for my containers so not in the ground Cheers Ray
Im hopeless at lupins perhaps ill have another go. Or try the grown ones from wilkos
You could always try Cheers Ray 🙃🌻
What month did you plant you Lupin seeds
Sam
These where planted in March . Seeds can be sowed early to mid spring so still time to give them a try. Let me know your progress Cheers Ray 🌱🍅🌷
@@GardeningforBeginners i got some just worried starting them late since its already may
Bulbs??!?
👍👍👍
They aren’t bulbs, they are small plants. Lupins don’t grow from bulbs, they grow a long taproot with the leaves growing from the top!
Thanks for the information Cheers Ray 🌱🌾🌼
