From the Oval Office to Dallas Love Field: White House Correspondent Sid Davis Remembers

  • As White House Correspondent for the Westinghouse Broadcasting Company, Sid Davis closely followed President Kennedy on an almost daily basis. In this special presentation, marking the 55th anniversary of the Cuban missile crisis, Davis shared candid memories from two of the most significant stories he covered during the Kennedy years. In October 1962, Davis was in the Oval Office when President Kennedy demanded that Soviet missiles be removed from Cuba. Just over a year later, Davis covered the Kennedy assassination and was one of three journalists to witness the swearing-in of President Johnson aboard Air Force One at Love Field.
During his lengthy career as a network journalist, Davis was Washington Bureau Chief for the Westinghouse Broadcasting Company from 1960 to 1978, and then became vice president and Washington Bureau chief for NBC News until 1982. Davis traveled the globe covering, interviewing or directing coverage of nine U.S. presidents.
This conversation was moderated by Curator Stephen Fagin and took place on October 23, 2017. Disagree about Sid’s viewpoint of today’s government and politics. If the government was still working like Sid’s description, the ‘swamp’ would be even deeper than it is today. At least today, governments around the world know that the President means business and he isn’t afraid of any of them. I’m in my 60’s and am thrilled with the progress of the past three years...including Co-Vid19.

Update 1-20-21: The waffle house brigade did not dare storm the White House as it had the Capitol; and the morally collapsed, nouveau swamp creature, criminal, incompetent and traitor, has at last left the building. 41:55 Trip was to "mend political fences." No, this is a fake cover story that has been widely peddled and widely believed. If LBJ, JFK, Yarborough, and Connally needed to get together to mend fences of Texas politics, three of them were already in Washington DC most of the time anyway. Connally could fly in any time, as he did to strenuously lobby JFK to come to Texas and Dallas in particular and the Trade Center in particular particular.
The purpose of the Texas/Dallas travels was to get JFK assassinated in an environment LBJ and his lap dog Connally could control. As eagerly aided by Texas oil, which hated JFK for his cutbacks on oil depletion allowances. And as eagerly aided by Mayor Cabell, whose CIA brother had been fired by JFK for his part in the Bay of Pigs. And as eagerly aided by winking Congressman Al Thomas, who blackmailed JFK to come "or else" Brooks would hold up funding for JFK's NASA pet project to fly an American to the moon.
The alleged fundraising by selling tickets to a barbecue at the LBJ Pedernales Ranch was so anemic that Yarborough was anxiously making pleading inquiries about it and how there were so few ticket sales he wasn't going to be getting any campaign funds out of the project. LBJ didn't care because LBJ knew JFK was destined to not make it to the barbecue anyway. LBJ also was lining up Yarborough to ride in the Connally seat. Had he succeeded and had Yarborough been shot dead, this would have helped out the U.S. Senate rival candidate for the 1964 race. A certain George Herbert Walker Bush, of Texas oil.
