Have to say we'll done to you sir all the way from Ireland 🇮🇪 your videos are my mental escape from the madness currently happening in the world I work as a checkout manager in a large supermarket, your videos help me and my son relax and focus on something else for a short while, thank you again.
They helped me with my PTSD. Found him in a middle of a massive episode and was trying to look up ways to help me cope, for some reason his channel popped up and it ,for some reason, caught my attention, and now I watch this wonderful intelligent well spoken man, any time I'm having an episode that I can't break away from. This man is one of the very few things I've found left in this world that still gives me hope and security that we aren't doomed as a collective, and that there is still magic in this world. Tbh, I'm tearing up typing this. And I would allow myself, for once and be ok with it, to cry if I ever meet this gift from God in person. I would probably break down and thank him for him being here on this planet at the same time as me.❤ If anyone ever questions if God is gone. This man is the answer to that question. No he's not gone. Because he gave us this wonderful intelligent and amazing man. For people like me. PTSD ridden, insomniac, a 20 on the gad and too scared to sleep because the faces are still there when I close my eyes. Watching his videos will be the closest I will ever get to heaven. Thank you.
Well once again you amaze me with the vast amount of chemistry and the metals reactions to the various PM's. It will be really interesting to see the posts recovering the platinum groups. Enormous spot $ on those indeed. Good news as the shop will be going back to work this coming week and a schedule for the 3 fellas that are there full time. They have cleared their isolations etc. That means I can go out and get at my pouring bench in the corner and we are starting to get more seasonal type temps as well. WOO HOO EH ! You take care and have a good day eh. By for now my friend.

Not an expert here, but Silver Jewellery is often coated with the Platinum group metal Rhodium for brightness, etc. It is known to form Red salts, hence the name, which is derived from the word Rose.
I thought of that. I'm only familiar with platinum and palladium. The other four sister metals in the platinum group; rhodium, iridium, ruthenium and osmium, are an enigma to me. You almost have to be a chemist to work with those metals. And those who know how to do it would rather take those processes to the grave rather than share them with the masses.

Mr SREETIPS, quick question, I need advice from the Master. Do I need to dissolve DMG? I have Pd(NO3)2 yellow salt after dissolving material with HNO3. Can I add powder DMG in a warm Pd(NO3)2 salt solution Instead? What is your advice please (thnx in advance)
Accidentally mixed about 50 grams of inquarted white gold with my 850 grams of inquarted yellow (looked alike). I'm not interested in recovering any PMGs/nickle but will I have any issues recovering gold using SMB, then silver with copper later?
Not sure. I usually let it stay in there with the bubbler for about four or five days. Then I take the bubbler out and let it settle for two or three days. Most of the precious metals will settle by then. But some of it stays suspended in the solution and gets added to the waste bucket. Can’t help that.

@@sreetips I’m the case of high platinum levels worth refining, would you precipitate pt with ammonium chloride then proceed to separate pd with dmg? Any other methods ideal in this scenario where you want to separate pt/pd from bases
Traces of PGMs in waste solutions, go in the stock pot. Small amounts of PGMs in solution, not worth trying to refine due to small quantity, like in this video, go in the stock pot.
When I’m collecting values in the filter, and the liquid is barren, and I have small volume of liquid, I’ll use gravity. When I’m filtering out trash and the amount of liquid is high and the values are in the solution then I’ll use a Büchner funnel and vacuum.
It depends on the material you are filtering out. For very fine particulate it's best to use a slow-flow number three. For the big hunks use a fast-flow or number one. For everything else I use a medium-flow or number two.
That was news to me that platinum was brought down by DMG, I learned something new today. What I didn't understand is why you added distilled water to the copper plate when cementing the silver. I can't see any advantage to do it, you just made 800 ml of additional waste to take care of and the cementing takes longer time to finish since it's a larger volume.
Lou confirmed it for me when I dropped a whole bunch of platinum from some Pd precipitate one time. I always dilute it before adding the silver nitrate. I once had the silver nitrate so concentrated that a layer of silver passivated on the copper and no more silver would cement out, until I diluted it. I guess it's just a habit now.
I've seen that once too, that the silver made a solid surface on the copper and then it didn't cement any more. Don't recall what I did to fix it, but I remember my surprise when I poured the "barren solution" in my waste bucket and saw it produce that white silver chloride precipitate. I think I just scraped off the surface to get fresh copper again and then it worked just fine. Now I always test before discarding the waste liquid. :-)

U.S. Minted silver coins contain a known quantity of silver, 90%. They are known for this. If you alter them by melting then their value becomes questionable. A dime might buy a loaf of bread. A quarter, a gallon of gasoline. Keep your coins like they are. They even tend to carry a premium.
