6:10 I did the same thing with my numbers in the Army. If you write down a wrong grid coordinate, you could navigate hundreds of kilometers off your intended destination. So all of my 7's are crossed, 8's are double-donuts, and zeroes are struck through the middle. No ambiguity allowed!
I do that as well, and I've repeatedly been asked if my crossed sevens are fours.
What sort of fucked up fours do people think are out there?
How do people confuse 7s for 4s?? If anything 9s and 4s if the 4s aren't the crossed ones.
@@lanceuppercut6168 Write it in a hurry, drop the note into a puddle of mud, have it get run over by a platoon of tanks, then see if anyone else can still read it. In the army they try to prepare you for the worst possible scenarios, because it *will* happen.

Did I miss something? The ship can revive the protagonist from DNA, but can't do that for the rest of the crew?
An interesting mechanic would be if the ship's computer lost the DNA data, or didn't back-up the DNA data for the first away team, and you had to find your dead crew and revive them at the ship which would give bonuses. I guess it wouldn't be "Lonely" anymore though.
Whatever revived him wasn't the ship, it was a mysterious person from the station they were at. If I were a betting man I'd say we'll later find out that our hero isn't the first one to be revived at that's where our crewmates went.
@@maxpower9546 It probably won't take long until that mysterious person starts electronically stuttering into "L- L- Look at you, Insect." speech.
I think the key word there is "mutants".
Maybe I've just played too much System Shock; but I'm not going to jump to the conclusion that the mysterious voice on the intercom ordering you around in a ship full of bodies and monsters is...necessarily...pursuing straightforwardly humanitarian goals; or being wholly candid with you.
At one point a crate was holding a "locked" door open. Splat may have done that off camera (or I may have missed it) but if not, that's a really good way of showing the player a way to engage with the environment. Other games would just shunt the crate out of the way.

Instead of using the little foot/nose on the 1, the other somewhat common handwriting convention is to put a small horizontal dash through the middle your 7's (and Z's, if you need to make sure they don't get confused as 2's). I also think it looks kinda fun. I've had two people over my life get VERY angry at me for it, it was bizarre.
That text-to-speech level voice acting hurts my feelings
It's AI, the word choices are a huge indicator of it, but also the fact that there are other games that have used AI voice acting that sound virtually identical to the one in this game that I've heard was what for sure told me it's AI.
Given I IMMEDIATELY recognized the ship interior as a Unity store asset, I'm not surprised.
It takes a lot of effort to play so many type of genres so consistently. Cheers for the effort as usual.
yeah. People give him crap sometimes for not noticing obvious things (usually just as a joke), but I think anyone would if they played as many different games as Splat does. I think that would muddle up my brain quite a bit lol

headbob and a camera viewpoint that comes out of your chest are the reasons I can't play many FPS games. This is no exception.
Which are weird choices for immersive sims since, irl our eyes aren't in our chest and our brains automatically filter out headbob.
@@derekdrake8706 exactly! I tried to play the new Ark survival and your eyes are clearly located in your nipples. When you chop a tree the entire camera sways like you have no core stomach muscles to hold you steady it's so stupid and not remotely realistic!

This definitely has potential. Sprinting, the UI, and some of the sounds need work though I am sure it's far off from full release. But we need more games like System Shock and Prey and Deus Ex.

5:44 I was the same as well - used to write my 7's with a bar in the middle. After I started work in pharmaceutical research, they said that 7 could be misconstrued as having a strikethrough so I had to practice writing 7's without a bar. I was only at that job for a year and a half but couple of years later I still write my 7's without a bar.

Looks interesting, but...there's always a "but". Firstly, durability on firearms is clownshoes. Guns wearing out to a failure state in a few dozen rounds is just asinine. Although, I do like the sights on the pistol--looks like MP7 sights. Rule of cool and all that. Secondly, why are your energy thingums the size of 55gal drums? Seriously. Nonsensical doesn't even begin to cover it.

3:58 Honestly, I hope that trope is subverted more often, and the AI does a heart-wrenching sacrifice to save you. I think Titanfall 2 did that, if I'm not mistaken? Never played it.

In other words, yeah, you could say it did that. I would highly recommend picking up Titanfall 2, even if it's only for the campaign, because it is fantastic.
One thing I 've learned in life. Never sass talk a space station AI.

Man, this has a ton of System Shock 2 vibes going on. A bit on the clean side, though I'm loving the vibes.
Those door energy elements are just waaaayyyy too big in your viewport. Like maybe they're supposed to just be big and awkward, but you can't see half your screen, it's terrible.
I like the idea that your respawn is some sort of cannon. The game looks cool!

I got a bad grade in an exam in high school that counted towards university acceptance for making up words. The next class I had a dictionary open with a ruler marking the word. Teacher kicked me out of her class permanently.
I love the visuals .. the atmosphere. I wonder why the movement is so slow, and the dash to run thing.. I feels a little empty at some areas (yeah EA) .. the voices don't bother me, it is nice they are there.. i stick with "meh" for the moment, but it could be nice. I wouldn't compare this to system shock though.. then where are my implants ?? ;) Thanks for the video Splat !

Eights made with two circles and a foot on ones is they way we relearned to write numbers in the Army.
This looks super promising. Love the feel and art style more than the SS remake. I couldn’t get past everything looking 16 bit. Once they add proper voice actor and maybe make the character 1 foot taller this would be a must check out

Crowbar and klaxon are a nod to Half Life 1. Those looks like head crabs, and the corpse in the suit looks like the G Man.

Frankly a gun on a space station should logically be using caseless ammunition, so it could fire in a vacuum, which means a 9mm pistol should hold between 30-50 rounds, something that always bothered me about guns in space in fiction
Aesthetic looks like Planet Crafter to me, especially blue beds and ladders.

Zombies and space? Shut up and take my money! :) However the start screen looks like Hellion setup, while inside the game it is rather too cute in shiny colours. It looks little better when you left the brand new, shiny ship but still, the place looks too sterilized for me, like never used, never walked before, only unexposed.

I agree they need to move the character's pov up a foot or so. And they should cut the size of those door energy thingies by about 50%. They're way too big!

I knew that was a 1 before you typed a 7. I've adopted what I think of as the European 7, a 7 with a crossbar at the waist, into my writing for this very reason.

That thing with the 1 and the 7 is different here in Germany, we do the cross member of the 7 and our 1 in just a seven without that (if your handwriting is bad enough)
Same in France. It seemed very legible to me and one has to ask if the writer or the reader is at fault

Why do all the doors, walls, tubes and all the assets look/feel SOOOOO familiar? The Planet Crafter, same asset pack looks like.
I like it when the ADS in games doesn't actually improve anything.
That way, people who feel they *must* use ADS can do so, and people don't enjoy pausing before shooting can choose not to use it without penalty.

There was a game...it looked very Dead Space...in the end, it was a mobile game and the PC port was not really worth while. What was its name again? Anyway, I hope this one is way better!

You have to resque them and find out what's going on on the station.
Soon as you missed that backstab and the monster didn't turn around and eat you I was done 😅 dying in a situation like that would have made the game 5x more suspensfull the fact there was no negative consequences was immersion shattering and honestly lame. Rest looks cool and horrory vibe but that killed it all.

Nope nope nope. The instant the AI said it's been 50 something days since last contact is the instant I decide I'm not leaving that damn ship. If I couldn't fly it back home myself I'd at least fly it out of the hangar, park it next to the big ship, send an SOS and put myself back to sleep.

The opening is a bit jarring and doesn't give a lot of explanation. But for a demo, it works.
The light is pretty annoying. Anything that isn't dark has that annoying flare. It's either a blinding haze or darkness. Ragdolling enemies look a little odd, but not more than usual. Boxes and enemies have that effect where they have no weight.
The doors use some giant batteries. I'm not sure how to think of battery puzzles, sometimes they get overused. Blocking sight as you move the battery-tank is a mild inconvenience.
