In my eyes, the Albatros is beyond beautiful. My favorite WWI airplane. Looks fast sitting still. And as all know, another iconic pilot besides Mr. Weeks flew it a few years back.

I could almost smell the change in air from the trees to the lake - mixed with just a hint of monoxide on a warm wind in my face, like warm vanilla custard fresh off the stove, growing cold as soon as I turn my head to either side, the wind playing a tune as it tickles the unyielding rigging wires like a harpist and slaps the multicoloured fabric stretched tight over the light wooden structure like overtightened snare drums at a Janis Joplin concert - every now and then the trance like rhythm almost coldly interrupted by the beat of the growling engine - almost coughing but smoother than a cough, like rhythmic spluttering trying to be heard, then fading into the resonance … i can control the rhythm! A gentle turn brings up the drums, a climb the strings, I just want to stay up here forever! Like this wonderful machine’s namesake, there’s so much wonder, so much still to see so much more magic up here than down there, the air is like warm vanilla, the sun seems closer, the clouds gather around me to see my new machine …look at them down there, the little ants wishing they could fly!

How brave were these first fighter pilots. In a plywood box with engine and for the time, even very heavily armed in a fight to life and death to blame. Personally, I find war in any form abhorrent. But that really pays me respect. A projectile in the wrong place, eg. in the oil cooler, engine or even the gas tank and one was lost or burned alive on the way down. Even a technical defect, which often occurred because these flying machines were over-stressed in the combat missions, usually meant death. Parachutes did not arrive until the end of the First World War. But thanks for flying so you can guess how brave these men were. By the way, you are too.

I just ordered Dynam's foam RC plane version of this plane. The colors are way off but the basics are accurate. I fully intend to repaint and detail it out to best resemble the version or another version of this plane, probably more of a camo design on the wings. I have been a modeler all my life anyways. I recently got back into flying RC again snd discovered its more fun actually being able to fly my work rather than having a static display sitting on a shelf.

Also this video made me appreciate how brave airmen were in WW1
No feeling of security at all, just an engine and a propeller in front of you, some wings held together by struts and cables and nothing around you
Even on video this feels much different than a closed, armored cockpit

Just some thoughts; 1. It is stupefying to stop the video when you dip into the cockpit, and see how clean and brand-spanking new your aircraft are. Just amazing how everything gleams. Every one of them. That must be the best feeling of all... 2. You HAVE to get a coffee-table book together of the cockpits- HAVE to. 3. Are those the rocker arms going up in front? How's come no oil coming off? Awesome Kermit, just awesome. - Dale in Tampa...

I reckon the altimeter and pressure gauges are in the cockpit; just can't see 'em in the medium-angle camera footage. ;-) And the Albatros-Werke AG (Johannisthal, Berlin, Preußen) even left space in the cockpit for a then-experimental collimator/reflector sight.
