Just saw this today 8/28/21. You guys made my month. Outstanding but way too short but loved every second of it. Thank you so much. Best part is NO MUSIC.
The Albatros was greatly feared and very good looking, too. It's flying escort for the recon plane here, I'm sure. I want to give the Hansabrandenburg pilot a periscope.
Always enjoyed reading about the Great War aviators. Several years ago I bought a ride in a biplane at Old Rhinebeck aerodrome in New York State. It was everything I hoped for but just too short. The takeoff and landing was spectacular!! I loved this video, thanks!
Sehr schönes "Old Duo with Duo Wings" 👍 3:50 Oldtimer hätten bei mir immer Flug-Erlaubnis.
That Albatros DIII OEFFAG series 253 was/is my favorite Albatros design in particular I like the look of the nose better than the German design also it was better built more powerful engine all around better airplane.Thank you for posting this video!
Most likely an emblem of personal relevance to the pilot. The depicted plane was flown by Benno Fiala von Fernbrugg (3rd ranking austrian ace with 28 or 29 victories) , so most likely it´s a symbol in reference to his family or something else from his personal life. Many austrian and german planes in WW1 had these personal symbols on them. After all, many pilot´s families were part of the aristocracy...
Are they flying with 1918 technology engines or do they have the 2020 shelf engines at a airplane dealer? No matter, old stuff no matter it looks like turns heads, that is what counts first :)
They look like historic versions, not kits, I assume these are restored? The albatross looks so authentic, the color scheme and the star of David on the side makes me think it's designed to look like Wilhelm Frankl's Albatross? I am curious about the nose, it's more rounded than the original DIII's I believe. Was this a mod for engineering reasons? Either way great video, I loved seeing them fly along the Burgen.
This is an authentic and accurate replica from an Öffag-built Albatross (Austrian). The big spinner, the german Albatross had, had some Problems, the Austrians wanted to get rid of. Despite every single screw not available nowadays was scratch made to original specs. The engines of both planes, being the same 225 HP Austrodaimler inline-6, are old and original. everything else was made. Even the high-pressure-tyres...
It was the personal sign of ObLt. i.Res. Benno Fiala, CO of Flik 51/J . The third highest ranking ace (28) of the LFT, the Austro-hungarian Aviation Troops.
I believe German ww1 two seaters had the guy in the back seat in control of the mission so the pilot followed orders. Maybe that explains the poor forward vision. Mind, that's only guessing.
That is right, the rearguy was the one with the higher Rank. But at These days, the cylinderbank of Inline engines always stood upright. Also, cause ww1 planes could hardly bear crosswinds, the flyingfields were quite big and forewardvisibility therefore not that cruscial.
The cockpits are also fairly small but open - so the pilot can easily lean out to the left side or the right side. Early on visibility down was as much of a priority as visibility forward. The layout used largely replaces the need for a windscreen while ensuring a degree of streamlining I suppose!
All respect to you from Iraq.. Albatross is really amazing
Fantastic to see and hear these machines in the air. Thank you.
Beautiful planes. It's amazing how little forward visibility the pilot has in the Hansa-Brandenburg

The sound of the rigging cables slicing air is amazing

Beautiful !!! Living the dream. Thank all involved for your patience and dedication. Thank you.
My goodness, listen to those engines purr! Beautiful. Thanks for posting this.
Danke für diesen hervorragenden Beitrag.
Was sind das schöne Flugzeuge. Herrlich zu sehen und zu hören.
Vielen vielen Dank

It's too easy to realize The Albatros DIII is the finest coolest looking biplane of all time.
I have to agree
I So agree....But, the Pfalz DIII.....is also on my List...of Cool, Sleek and sturdy. :)

The Designer of that two seater was a real genius. I was constantly waiting for it to fly into a mountain.
Yeah, you can't see squat straight ahead, you have to keep swinging your body from side to side to see.
Herrliche Aufnahmen. Danke für´s zeigen.

Wunderschön !
Really impressive ! I like at 3:55 the windows under the C1 to take photos.
Actually it is at 3:32. And I was wondering if the window is used to drop bombs.
Nice planes and great scenery!

Fantastic thanks
Incrível! Isso é muito legal! 🌟
Wow, flying rare WW1 biplanes in the Alps is wild
I love the two seater, though I wouldn't want to fly it
that landing
twice as nice, beautiful
Pure magic !
Where was this video shot?
Mountains look beautiful!

Wunderbar!
Absolutely fantastic video!
It obviously never occurred to the designers at Hansa Brandenburg that the pilot might want to see where he was going!
Belíssimo! Great!
🥰Beautiful
the daimler beautiful engine
3 point landing ?
Wonderful
Beautiful
Ernst Heinkel designed the Hansa Brandenburg C.I
Where was this? Where can I see these planes flying?
Super Video. Besser als vieles, was mehr gesehen wird. Macht weiter so.
What is the significance of a six pointed star instead of a balkenkreuz?

Good point thanks, many planes also had a swastika too, both Western Allies and Central Powers alike.
Crazy how the pilot in the two-seater barely has any visibility in front of him

they both have the same original AD6 Austrodaimler-Engines with 225 HP and the same stunning sound
They look like historic versions, not kits, I assume these are restored? I believe the Austro/Hungarians used Austro Daimler engines instead of the German Mercedes

Mann!
Is that a German Alb D-III, or an Oeffag? If Oeffag, was it a model 53, 153, or 253?
oeffag afaik
Albatros is Austrian from Oeffag and model 253.
Not even fake guns on the D.III?
What's the deal with the Magen David on the Albatross?
Was the enblem from the Flik 51, a certain combatgroup in todays northern Italy
It was the personal sign of ObLt. i.Res. Benno Fiala, CO of Flik 51/J . The third highest ranking ace (28) of the LFT, the Austro-hungarian Aviation Troops.
De guten birden highen flyin
Das ist der schone flugen
Prop spinner ! The most importen ditail..
The Austrian model did not have a prop spinner.
This Albatros d.iii doesn't look like a German model, I think it's based on Hungarian made model.
