True. Some people rag on them for not playing on all the albums but in reality, session musicians were mainly used because of their intense touring schedule. Brian would be in the studio with the session crew while The Beach Boys were out on the road. They were more than capable of playing all their songs.
I love this version of the Beach Boys Good Vibrations because both Carl Wilson (who passed away from cancer in 1998 AND Dennis Wilson who drowned in 1983) are in it. Carl Wilson had a beautiful voice.
Dennis wasn't even the original drummer on this song. On the original recording, Dennis contributed backing vocals and an organ part during the second bridge. There were two drummers, Hal Blaine and Jim Gordon, obviously neither of whom were Dennis Wilson.
Dennis played like a caveman on this song...and I mean that in a positive tone. He pounded those drums and got the perfect sound at the right times. He was criticized for his primitive drumming style. But his style worked for my ears. He put his soul into drumming because he idolized his brother Brian, who wrote this song.
BEACH BOYS! GREAT PERFORMANCE! CARL WILSON - CARL really had a great voice!! From every video I watch, Carl seems to really be the best singer of all the Beach Boys. His solo singing is beautiful & flawless!
Brian's gift was his vision, and his vision provided the genius that would lay the foundation of complex subtlety in the compositional framework of that vision.
Katie Beavers, probably yes, by ALL of the Beach Boys, but! Have you seen Brian Wilson and his band, Wondermints do it in the recorded-for-TV concert of SMiLE?!! Heavenly!!
Thanks Eagle Rock for putting Good Vibrations from the Knebworth Concert on TH-cam. Carl Wilson is my favorite singer with his great voice and when he smiled into the camera I looked into his eyes and saw his beautiful soul. I later found out that people who personally knew Carl LOVED him because he was also a beautiful person..
I usually appreciate and defend Mike Love, but that man has _NEVER_ understood or appreciated the slow section of "Good Vibrations". I've heard their very first live performance of it, and all through the decades, Mike has NEVER been content to just let the song get nice and _quiet_ for a little while!
The version on Live in London drives me insane! He says, "change in tempo" and I think "dearly beloved we have gathered here today..." dammit, man. Shut up!
This is from the Knobworth concert which is available on DVD even here in North America. Last time all the original Beach Boys were together on British Soil. Beach Boys= worlds greatest vocal group Shadows=worlds greatest instrumental group.
I remember when it was first released, the so called experts said it could never be produced on stage. I saw them perform it at the Capitol cinema in Cardiff, awesome.
I miss Brian on all these songs. So sad. Denny has Brian's sad eyes. I just feel... it's not the Beach Boys without Brian. He wrote all these wonderful songs. Having said that, the energy and performance and sound here is great! Just miss Brian, that's all.
Brian - the genius Carl - the heart Dennis- the surfer Al - the kind friend to Brian Bruce- the replacement Brian I got nothing nice to say about mike love.

For everyone who is watching this video, which live version of Good Vibrations is better, this version, The Ed Sullivan 1968 version, the 1972-73 Tour version, the Anaheim 1976 version, or the 50th Anniversary Tour version?
You like that because you're a worthless, talentless, hideous nobody. Mike Love is a Beach Boy, whether you like it, or not. You might be ignoring positive comments about him, but you can't ignore the fact that he made all of Wembley show their appreciation. Now, just off yourself. It would benefit the world.

As I recall, this was the last performance where all six Beach Boys played together.
My father was a huge Beach Boys fan and he died from cancer one year after Carl. It really broke my dad’s heart when Carl died.

it's worth noting that it took what seemed like at least 20 singers at the 2012 Grammys to try and recreate Carl's part

This show proves what a great drummer Dennis really was. His timing driving all of these songs is better than pro studio hired guys live as F.
Apparently according the Mike all you have to do to be a legendary front man is continually tell the crowd they aren’t singing loud enough.
