Scientists Drained Niagara Falls in 1969 And Made an Amazing Discovery

  • In the summer and fall of 1969, the American side of Niagara Falls stayed without water for 6 months. Researchers drained the falls to study the rock face. They were afraid it was going to become too unstable because of erosion. It took a 600 feet dam across the enormous Niagara River to really shut down these astonishing falls. This means they had to divert 60,000 gallons of water every second so that the remaining flow traveled over the biggest Horseshoe Falls.

    My husband and I visited Niagara falls in the 80's.
    It was a wonderful thing to see.
    We went on the boat the MAID IF THE MIST.
    WE WERE PRIVUDED EIRH RAINCOATS BEVAUDE WE WENT VERY CLISE TO UNDER THE FALLS.
    WE GOT DISKED FROM TJE WATER DORAY.
    I WAS VERY SCARED AS THE BOAT CONTINUED TO GET CLOSER ABD CLOSER
    TO THE WATER FALLS.
    MY HUSBAND MANAGED TO CALM ME DOWN, BY PUTTING HIS ARMS AROUND ME AND HOLDING ME.
    IT WAS SOMETHING I ALWAYS REMEMBERED..

    What a tedious way to present such a wonderful story about one of the falls on the Niagara River. Why do some members of the USA media have to add annoying music and over state and repeat the story you're telling? It's like you're speaking to everyone as if they're kindergarteners.

    • @tomlangmyer1351
      @tomlangmyer1351 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Agree! Not only did it speak as if viewers are kindergartners, but also was full of factual errors and use of stock video from places that had nothing to do with Niagara Falls.

    In 1969, the American side of Niagara Falls was drained for several months to study the rock face and conduct research. This was achieved by diverting the water flow using a 600-foot dam across the Niagara River
    The purpose was to better understand the science of the falls, and the researchers found millions of coins that people had thrown into the water over the years
    There were also reports of human remains being found, but the details and veracity of these claims are unclear
    This event allowed researchers to explore the dried bottom of the falls, revealing a landscape that is usually underwater
    The draining of Niagara Falls in 1969 was a significant scientific endeavor that provided valuable insights into this natural wonder.
