- In this episode, we discuss the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha constituency. There are two distinctions about this seat - one recent and one from the pages of history. In the 2024 polls, it is the only one where polls are being held in two phases.
The second one is from 1952. In the first general elections, when the Congress swept through the country, Outer Manipur was one among 12 seats that elected a socialist candidate.
But those aren’t the most compelling reasons to pick the seat among the 16 we are talking about. We are coming up on one year since the conflict between the Kuki-Zos and Meiteis began. The violence began over the Meitei community’s demand for ST status. The horrific photos and videos that later started circulating, perhaps will never fade from our conscience.
We are joined by senior reporter Abhinay Lakshman, who has been closely following the Manipur conflict, to discuss the peculiarities and the electoral impact of strife on the seat.

For outer, John Kho and Alyson Abonmai are barely mentioned except perhaps in their own circles. Timothy Zimik has the backing of ... (no need to name them) but doesn't enjoy mass support. Alfred Arthur is the only one who is instantly recognisable and popular across all communities. Plus, the fact that he was attacked twice shows some people are really scared he will win. Let's not forget he's also being intimidated and not allowed to hoist his party flag unlike the others. So he might get a lot of support for standing strong in the midst of all this.
Feel very sorry if saying the conflict in Manipur is only for S T demand ,it will be due to disregard of Meiteis by other Indians .

violence completing a year next month.

The analysis by the two journalists is incomplete and half truth. The violence didn’t start once the Meitis demanded for changes, but when the hon’ble High Court adjudged in Metis’ favour, which made the Kukis to agitate beyond civilian means. When suddenly attacked by Kukis, Metis grouped together and started counter attacks on Kukis. Unfortunately, media and opposition projected this as Christian-Hindu issue to pull down and blame BJP, but in reality it’s an issue between two tribes, one thinking they are natives and blaming the migrants from Myanmar. While the others think they are natives too and their tights in the land are diluted.
NDA/NPF is the hope for Outer Manipur. Congress has dark records in Manipur, which came to light during the Violence.
