Paramore as a band has been through A LOT and I think a lot of these songs reference not only that, but also Zac returning to the band. Zac originally left with his brother Josh, who was also a founding member, in 2010 and it was really ugly. They accused Hayley of being out only for herself and basically said the rest of the band was riding on her coattails. People really thought Paramore was over, but they rallied through, only to have Jeremy (a founding member who had left and returned before their first album was even released) say all this nasty stuff about Hayley and leave the band in 2015. After all that nonsense, Hayley went through a divorce from her husband (who I never liked for multiple reasons) and was suffering from major mental health issues. I could truly go into so much about Hayley being the lead singer in a pop rock band in an industry and musical scene that was largely dominated by men, but that's a whole different story. Without Hayley and Taylor, there would be no Paramore. They fought so hard for their band. With Zac rejoining, they finally feel complete and whole. I think this album explores past hurts, growing up, learning when to let go, but also knowing when to distance yourself and protect yourself, all while circling depression and mental health. This album was truly a masterpiece. We had to wait 4 years for it and it was worth it.

You can see how their sound evolved and changed. I would also recommend taking a look at Hayley’s solo albums. She made them when she was really struggling and they’re are dark but beautiful.

So many great moments in this album. A lot of Paramore fans were really harsh on It when it came out because of the popier sound, but I really like it - it's one of my top. Having been a Paramore fan since (or close to) Day 1, it is somewhat important to know for this album that the band has had a pretty rocky member situation and this album almost didn't happen following Hayley and Chad's separation too. Someone could probably detail it better than I can but essentially the band was formed by friends, friendships were lost, relationships were lost - the friendship with Taylor York and rekindling with Zac Farro who previously left the band in 2010ish was what helped this album happen and the band stay together. I think Told You So the song and music video both reflect this really well with them coming to 'pick her up' from her dark empty house. Hope you have an amazing time tonight! As a Paramore and Taylor international fan, I am very jealous!
it’s aged really well though, I feel that this being a top album of theirs isn’t an unpopular opinion anymore. I’ve enjoyed it since it’s release but I don’t think it’s as strong as some of their other work, but then again I’m just more into a heavier sound than pop right now so that may change in the future. 26 and Idle Worship will definitely never drop out of my Paramore Top 10 songs.
I love that right before Grudges, it felt like the album has been gaslighting you that everything is just sad even though it sounds happy, that when you heard Grudges (which is indeed ‘just’ a sinple happy song) you’re doubting that it is really a happy song.
Taylor York saved Paramore. That's probably one of the first things new fans should learn about the band. Not just that Paramore was probably going to break up if it wasn't for him, but his songwriting is leaps and bounds better than the previous main songwriter in the band. So yeah, you're correct in assuming the band history is interesting. It's definitely worth looking up.

The way she talked about Pool during this time, I think does not reflect her true feelings and especially not her feelings now that they’re clearer after the fact. She was pretty quiet about her divorce during After Laughter but after the album cycle ended and they went away and she ended up writing her first solo record, Petals For Armor, she did a lot more interviews and really opened up about that relationship and how bad it was for her. She also reflected a bit on it in the recent Zane Lowe interview for This Is Why. I really recommend watching both the TIW and AL Zane interviews, they love him so much and have such a sweet relationship with him. I think he’s actually the only person they would be comfortable talking about some of the songs with. Grudges is about Zac returning to the band after leaving in 2010 with his (problematic and awful tbh) brother. I’m sure you’ll uncover some of the drama when you make your way through to that record. Also the “I know I said I was doing good and that I’m happy now” line in Fake Happy, calls back to Tell Me It’s Okay from the self titled record previous to it, “tell me it’s okay to be happy now, because I’m happy now” :(. Also vaguely referenced in Dead Horse from Petals For Armor where she sings “held my breath for a decade, dyed my hair blue to match my lips” because when they released the deluxe version of Paramore the album, she had blue hair at the time. There’s soooo much interlaced in the songs from different eras. So excited to watch your descent into Paramore stan 🥲

I watched them live in Jakarta back in 2018 during their After Laughter era. Let me tell you they did not disappoint. Hayley SAAAANG all throughout the show with no flaws. Her energy was out of this world, strong vocals while jumping around the stage like the little fireball that she is. Zac on the drums brought the songs to another level, if he played a drumming solo I wouldn't have complained. Taylor on the guitar was on fire, he is the glue that brings Paramore together. They also played hits from their previous albums, the nostalgia we felt when they played Ignorance, MisBiz, Crush3x, The Only Exception, Aint It Fun, etc. They KNEW we've been fans since the start and they delivered their best! You're so lucky you get to watch them open for Taylor Swift, you're in for a great ride.
I loved your review of the album, you managed to feel and catch things in the air even without knowing much about the band's history. You listening to Grudges moved me, those lyrics are about Hayley and Zac's friendship, and how long it took them to get back on speaking terms. Paramore is everything. And there is no Paramore without Taylor and Zac. I suggest you watch both interviews with Zane Lowe so you can get a little better acquainted with the band as a whole. You’ll fall in love with all of them!
I feel like Hayley's solo album (Petals For Armor) would be a great listen for you! It delves more into what she went through during Paramore before and during AL and how she's grown, it's a wonderful indie/post-punk experience and her songwriting in there is top tier. One of my top 10 fav albums
As an og paramore fan, All We Know Is Falling and Brand New Eyes are my favorite albums. But I do love After Laughter, and Fake Happy might be my absolute favorite song of theirs.
I really recommend for you to go to a solo concert of them, it's so good. I went to they concert last week here in Brazil, and girl, best day of my life.
This is such a solid album. I wasn't a big fan of Paramore through the years but this album changed my mind immediately. Their songwriting and composing is just out of this world. I really hope you do videos checking out the rest of their discography. Although I think (personally) their latest two albums are the most consistent, there's something worth listening to on each album. I also hope you do videos checking out Hayley's solo projects. So Pools is indeed about a toxic relationship. It was about Chad And Grudges is about Josh rejoining the band! Caught In The Middle Taylor started to write while super depressed and decided to take a solo road trip to Florida to be on the beach I saw them 4 times during the AL era and sobbed every time. Forgiveness is soul healing, and they are even more amazing live now Please check out how she plays Misguided Ghosts and how she’s done it live during AL and during This Is Why. I love how it feels like it’s come full circle
The name After Laughter has an interesting idea behind it, it's based on the face people make after laughing, as in after you're done laughing what face do you make? And I think it's so fitting for this album
BTW Grudges is about the frendship between Hayley and Zac (the drummer and the guy that is doing the back vocals in that song)! IT'S SO CUTE to ear them both sing together about the fact that they are so happy to spend time together again. Zac quit the band for a couple of years and came back for After Laughter!
Im so happy you got to listen to AL. This album really helped me get through a lot of stuff, it’s really cathartic. I genuinely recommend both Hayley’s solo albums, I think you’d love them ❤
First of all have SO MUCH FUN at the TS concert tonight! Excited for you to see Paramore live for the first time! Also a little musical context for “Idle Worship” and “No Friend”: mewithoutYou is an incredible band, one of Hayley’s favorite bands as well. Aaron Weiss (lead singer) is an amazing lyricist. She’s done a song with them before. They just recently disbanded and did a farewell tour. You should check out some of their earlier music. I specifically suggest you check out the song “January 1979”. I feel like you can really hear mwY’s influence from that era of their band in the music and lyrics and Hayley’s vocals in “Idle Worship”.

This is a no skip album for me (which all Paramore albums are for me) but 26 is my comfort song on this album and I always listen to it. But I also really really love Fake Happy to get rooted. 😭🖤

Chad cheated on Hayley, that's the major of their divorce. Now Hayley and Taylor (guitarrist) are dating and she always talk about how this now is a healthy relationship, and how in the beginning it felt wrong cause it wasn't hard as others relations that she had before
Also, their live videos from this era were impeccable. When I’m having a hard time I throw videos up of them playing live and just let that soothe me This album saved my life several times But seriously, Hayley is a force to be reckoned with live. And the band is so amazing

Riot! is the album people tend to think of. Definitely their biggest. And then I'd actually say Brand New Eyes and self titled are the next two. After Laughter is just more recent, so makes sense people want you to listen to it.

Also vaguely referenced in Dead Horse from Petals For Armor where she sings “held my breath for a decade, dyed my hair blue to match my lips” because when they released the deluxe version of Paramore the album, she had blue hair at the time. There’s soooo much interlaced in the songs from different eras.

I watched them live in Jakarta back in 2018 during their After Laughter era. Let me tell you they did not disappoint. Hayley SAAAANG all throughout the show with no flaws. Her energy was out of this world, strong vocals while jumping around the stage like the little fireball that she is. Zac on the drums brought the songs to another level, if he played a drumming solo I wouldn't have complained. Taylor on the guitar was on fire, he is the glue that brings Paramore together. They also played hits from their previous albums, the nostalgia we felt when they played Ignorance, MisBiz, Crush3x, The Only Exception, Aint It Fun, etc. They KNEW we've been fans since the start and they delivered their best! You're so lucky you get to watch them open for Taylor Swift, you're in for a great ride.

You listening to Grudges moved me, those lyrics are about Hayley and Zac's friendship, and how long it took them to get back on speaking terms. Paramore is everything. And there is no Paramore without Taylor and Zac. I suggest you watch both interviews with Zane Lowe so you can get a little better acquainted with the band as a whole. You’ll fall in love with all of them!
I feel like Hayley's solo album (Petals For Armor) would be a great listen for you! It delves more into what she went through during Paramore before and during AL and how she's grown, it's a wonderful indie/post-punk experience and her songwriting in there is top tier. One of my top 10 fav albums

This is such a solid album. I wasn't a big fan of Paramore through the years but this album changed my mind immediately. Their songwriting and composing is just out of this world. I really hope you do videos checking out the rest of their discography. Although I think (personally) their latest two albums are the most consistent, there's something worth listening to on each album. I also hope you do videos checking out Hayley's solo projects. The name After Laughter has an interesting idea behind it, it's based on the face people make after laughing, as in after you're done laughing what face do you make? And I think it's so fitting for this album

IT'S SO CUTE to ear them both sing together about the fact that they are so happy to spend time together again. Zac quit the band for a couple of years and came back for After Laughter!

Also a little musical context for “Idle Worship” and “No Friend”: mewithoutYou is an incredible band, one of Hayley’s favorite bands as well. Aaron Weiss (lead singer) is an amazing lyricist. She’s done a song with them before. They just recently disbanded and did a farewell tour. You should check out some of their earlier music. I specifically suggest you check out the song “January 1979”. I feel like you can really hear mwY’s influence from that era of their band in the music and lyrics and Hayley’s vocals in “Idle Worship”.
Grudges is actually about zac and him joining the band again! So it’s really special that he did vocals on the bridge

This is a no skip album for me (which all Paramore albums are for me) but 26 is my comfort song on this album and I always listen to it. But I also really really love Fake Happy to get rooted. 😭🖤

Riot! is the album people tend to think of. Definitely their biggest. And then I'd actually say Brand New Eyes and self titled are the next two. After Laughter is just more recent, so makes sense people want you to listen to it.

i went to their concert last week here in Brazil and still can't believe it, just doesn't seem like it happened, I was drenched because of the rain but it was really amazing, it was a whole journey that trip for the concert and i cried so much on the concert (happy tears)
it's so wild to me to think of After Laughter as the quntisesstial paramore album, to me that would be Riot!, Brand New Eyes, and self-titled simultaniously. You gotta check out those three, at least Brand New Eyes and self titled
