Another fun fact: Scadu comes from the Old English Sceadu, pronounced... shadoo. The Scadutree is simply the Shadowtree, but written in a suuuper archaic way.
Torrent isn't available in the spooky forest because there's only one non-rat enemy there that speeding through on Torrent would trivialize the entire area gameplay-wise. Though I'm sure someone will do a 1 hour lore video using From's contrived storytelling to justify it lol
One of the item descriptions in that area explains: "Spirits are eternal, and yet frenzied flame melts them away regardless." So Torrent, who is a spirit steed, is probably scared of that area because it's filled with the only thing that can kill it. Also, in the game Torrent "dies" many times and you can revive it by using your flask, but if you do the frenzied flame ending, then Torrent dies for good.
@Crumsie Yeah... the 2 frenzy areas, where frenzy is BARELY PRESENT vs a whole frenzied swamp with connections to Nanaya, a new frenzy related divine being and a LORD OF FRENZY.
I thought about that too, but I've come to the conclusion that we already were presented with the necessary information, but haven't pieced it together properly yet.
Instead we learned about Miquella x Radahn incest... They dropped the ball hard with the lore. Also, why are there barely any new enemies? LIke over half are resued from the base game. Even if the last fight is epic it still feels off especially since this is most likely the END of Elden Ring. I wish we would have given Godwyn a true death, that would have been amazing end to the game and given the DLC importants.
Before entering the "Shadow keep" or how its called where Mesmer is. to the right you have some "dead" parts of those big walking golems...and there is a letter, with states "dont mess around these golems with the big potts, especially fire ones"....so its a hint ;-) you can damaged them if you trow it from above "into them" or you can start them, its like an engine....you know how engines in cars work right? Basic knowledge from school? ;-)
The shackles work by counting as a collision btw. They have insane range and verticality too. You can use them to break the hanging pots and reveal illusory walls.
If fake hidden wall messages bother you. (compelling you to hit the wall anyway just to be certain) Use the shackle at the start of the dungeon to dispel any doubt.
dual wielding Light and Darkness is they way to go since you will get both damage buff and enemy defense shred, but this requires two playthroughs or someone to drop it for you. also, where you pick the sword up at then determines the altar locations. all three altars have the stone shesth sword and then when the player picks it up the other two disappear and become altars of light and dark instead. ❤
I just finished the DLC and bro…why is nobody talking about the similarities between Ranni and Miquella?! Miquella is shown to have 4 arms in the final boss fight, as we know Ranni does too. And if you get grabbed twice by Miquella he says “let us go together” as well as getting that gesture. That is the exact same thing Ranni says in the Age of Stars ending…hell, they both even say the same exact phrase about a thousand year voyage, just guided by different things. Ranni being the stars and Miquella’s by compassion. These are far too many similarities to be just a coincidence, I’d love to hear peoples thoughts on this.
Plus they both sacrifice their literal bodies as a means to cast off the things holding them back. There's a few big differences though. Major spoilers after the break, just to be safe: First - Ranni sacrificed her body to attain autonomy and defy her fate. Miquella on the other hand was attempting to fulfill his predetermined fate rather than fight it. Second - Ranni only sacrificed her literal flesh and left her spirit and her sense of self intact. Miquella sacrificed not just his body, but also things like his love, heart, and kindness. Lastly (and what I think is the most obviously telling about how they were different) - Ranni actually owns up to being a manipulative schemer who's realizes she's just doing what needs to be done since she believes the ends justifies the means. Miquella literally gave up his capacity to love and willingly utilizes brainwashing powers to force others to do his bidding, yet preaches that his rule would be guided by "compassion" without realizing the hypocrisy of his actions. Rule under Miquella would be just as if not even MORE oppressive than it was under the Golden Order, the only difference is that now all races would be equally manipulated under his thumb rather than only some of them.
Just finished the base game with Ranni's ending after finishing the DLC. I did take notice that both Ranni och Miquella both plead you to follow them on a thousand year voyage, almost the exact same phrasing
@@reperfan4Ranni also acts out of genuine, uncompelled love, and ultimately tries her best to not take choices away from others. The entire latter portion of her quest is pretty explicit about it. She sends her loved ones away to protect them, not realizing Blaidd and Iji will sacrifice themselves to keep the Black Knives away - "tell them I love them" implies she never thought they would die for her immediately after. She also tells you to leave... But gives you the key to the chest containing her engagement ring, which gives YOU the choice whether to follow her or not. Every part of her quest requires that you choose her of your own volition; whether it's starting the quest by seeking her out, or refusing to give her the Amber Draught. And of course, she never gave up parts of her personality to do all this. Even her ending, at least as originally written in the Japanese text, is about freedom. Freedom from the meddling influence of gods, something that mortals are literally powerless to resist. Her solution to the problem is to take the order that governs the natural laws of the world far away beyond the night, where no one can see or touch or feel it (not taking away emotions; the English translators messed up). Without being able to touch the physical manifestation of Order, there is no throne of Elden Lord to fight over. No gods to crush people underfoot. Just the distant stars and moon to watch over the world. In contrast, Miquella, while initially well-intentioned, is so single-mindedly obsessed with his goal that he inadvertently sabotages any chance he has of achieving it. The Gate of Divinity demands purity - absolute power for an absolute being. But being pure and perfect and absolute isn't something a person can be, because people are complex and flawed and that's what makes then interesting. The world isn't perfect either. So a god of perfect light can only ever blind and burn the world with his radiance. He would shrive clean the hearts of men, taking away their desires for power and conflict... But in so doing he would destroy what makes them people to begin with, their will. And he doesn't even realize that abandoning doubt and abandoning love can only make him a tyrant surrounded by puppets, because what is compassion without love? In the end it's because Miquella is a child. Cursed to remain that way eternally, both physically and mentally. He has a child's wish - to make the world better by making all the adults stop fighting. Even if that means forcing them to, like dolls in a dollhouse being made to kiss and play house.
I also believe both of the endings would have been essentially the exact same thing. Rannis ending is explicitly one which has no outer gods controlling it, meanwhile Miquella was all about wanting the outer gods out of the world and even though he never says specifically the age of compassion would be about that I think it would be
Yeah bro I really hate how they barely added lore compared to how much gameplay they added, I wish we got hloam eye queen and the twin bird, cuz when I first went to the dlc I found hella grave birds, like bruh
It’s not that weird when you think about it. Markia was not native to the lands between but it seems the gloam eye queen was. It would make sense that her followers and worshipers wouldn’t be in the land of shadows. You could make the case Markia could have sealed her there because it seems to be a realm she hates but it’s not that weird: I was disappointed by the lack of mention too but the more i think about it the more sense it makes.
@@falloutjustcause but Marika's home is the Shaman village in the Land of Shadow, which used to be a part of the Lands Between (proof is on top of the Suppressing Pillar), probably until Marika separated it and left Messmer there. So while the Numen themselves might not be native to TLB, Marika certainly is. Unless there's some other piece of lore that I missed that mentions the separation of the lands and states it wasn't Marika who did it, but considering it's probably got to do with the big veils hanging off the Scadutree, it had to have happened after the Erdtree was already established, right?
@@Morrov Can you point me to the suppressing pillar that states they were separated i could be missing that info too. It was my understanding that the land of shadow came into existence when the erdtree did and was separate from the realm of the land betweens. I don’t think it would make sense if the lands were directly connected as they’re meant to be reflections of each other. I would assume that meant the land of shadows existed when the erdtree was basically the crucible? I could be misinformed on that exact nature. I still think my point stands that it’s not super weird that there’s no connection between the gloam eye queen and the land of shadows as gloam eye queen did exist independent of Marika and was an emperyean in her own right. I just dont see why she’d or her followers have any business in the land of shadows but i could also see it if she was there. Again i agree with wishing they had references but with what i know in the lore it’s not the strangest thing for her to have no connection.
@@falloutjustcause the inscription on the pillar says that it's the very centre of the Lands Between, and didn't Miyazaki say in one of the early interviews that they used to be one but got separated?
@Ziostorm @7:28: Since the DLC basically confirms Melina as Queen Marikas daughter (by indirectly referring to her as Mesmer's sister who shares the power of flames to burn away roots/branches of the Erdtree), we can finally fully interpret her ending cutscene. Queen Marika defeated(!?) the Base Serpent and sealed it away with her scarseal inside Mesmer's special eye. So it's quite safe to assume, with all that we know about The Gloam Eyed Queen being Marikas enemy before, that she defeated her aswell and sealed away her power with her scarseal inside Melina's purple eye. So by following the analogy to Mesmer, Melina basically inherits he power of the Gloam Eyed Queen now and should be able to use it, when necessary. (Which is probably what's hinted at with her ending cutscene. Awakening that power to follow and fight the player character for ultimately betraying the Golden Order with Rani.)
I really like this idea. I do want to add that I feel like the placement of the Putrescent Knight basically guarding St. Trina along with its remeberacne description "All tainted flesh eventually becomes putrescence, and this clump of it imbibed St. Trina's nectar, which granted it eternal rest. And so it was that putrescence became her knight." would lean St Trina and the gloam eyed queen being the connection over Melina if the file name is correct.
Do notice how Melina’s eyes is normally golden as if in the light of the grace and the Golden Order (basically Marika’s influence). But during the Frenzy Flame ending, when you completely annihilate Marika’s order, Melina’s eye become colorless
You didn't mention that the old lady will give you soup! Like, literal soup. It's a healing /buffing item. Talk to her again after killing Messimer! I didn't even need to put the lion head back on.
Lore wise feels like we could use an Elden Ring 2. So much unknowns, and characters we want more info on. This universe seems like they could pull another full game out of assuming they didnt need Martin to write more. But i think if From wants to "top" this game they need to make bloodborne 2. Can't think of another ip they would work on that would come close to the hype.
From the Gloam eyed Queen, to Melina, Godwyn, even messmer and miquella being in the same area and not having any interaction with each other almost like they don't know each other. Instead we get to see more about where the big dirty fingers come from
To your point on at 7:24, I have a theory that further connects the Gloam-Eyed Queen and Melina. And I believe that it can all be explained with Marika's karma of constantly birthing children who are cursed with ghosts from her past. In the first trailer for the DLC, we see Markia ripping grace out of some flesh. I believe she tore grace from a giant snake's eye and I believe that this giant snake was the Base Serpent who was the God during the time of the crucible. We also know that Messmer is her son and was born with the "Base Serpent" inside of him and that there was nothing she could do to quell his suffering except to seal the serpent away and have him embrace the sins he was born with. Seeing that Melina and Messmer are confirmed siblings, I believe that Melina's curse included having the powers if not being the reincarnation of the gloam eyed queen herself. The Base Serpent sealed in Messmer's right eye and the Gloam Eyed Queen Sealed in Melina's left eye. I think it's quite fitting. > Markia kills the Base Serpent to gain divinity? It comes back and lives in her first born son. > She starts a genocide against the Hornsent people? Her first twins are born with Horns. > She kills her rival? Oops, her rival got reborn as her daughter.
damn those placidusax heads on bayle is crazyyy i thought, aight he gonna talk about the missing leg, exposed talons, and wings and stuff, but damn this fully answered the question about the missing heads
I mean it was pretty obvious when you look at the two, who else could do such damage to a Dragon but another Dragon and we are flat out told by the Dragons Priestes that Bayle is a traitor that fought against Placidusax and fleed when he got wounded by him We are also told that Bayle and his Brood are cannibals because when you read the descriptions of the Dragon items you find on the mountain, you learn how Bayle ate other Dragons to grow more powerful and his Drake brood were doing the same, that's why you see two of them fighting on the way up the mountain
True, but we got confirmation on Melina being the sister of Messmer and thus truly a daughter of Marika. And as they have done this with previous titles, them not elaborating further on it just means we already have all the puzzle pieces. I am convinced Melina was/is the gloam eyed queen, because well, we clearly see it in one of the endings of the base game and I'll accept that with them not going deeper on that.
and Godwyn.... So much foreshadowing of Miquella wanting to bring him back gone to shit. I really thought the last boss is going to be Miquella + Godwyn istead of what we've got.
@@phantasm5347There was no foreshadowing of that, just fan theories. His entire eclipse thing was to destroy Godwyn's body, not to revive him. His soul was destroyed by the Rune of Death. There is no revival.
@@stephenjenkins7971 She shouldn’t have to, it’s the basis for the DLC. We knew weeks ago that Marika betrayed the people in the Shadow Realm from the trailer. She amounts us to one of “Messmer’s peons” and then proceeds to tell us quite a bit about why she’s got a problem with our tarnished warrior.. starting with how their lands were burnt, spoils taken, and asks if we’ve come to take more or revel in the damage done.. and why would she do that and you know hand out spoilers for lore that comes later in the DLC [looking at you btw, thanks for that 😐].
On Melina and the Torrent cutscene, I actually tried to do that once by reaching the Weeping Peninsula without resting at a site of grace. However, the cutscene doesn't play if you rest there, and instead I only got the cutscene to play when I rested at the Gatefront grace. On the Aging Untouchables: there is an ingame clue that actually tells you about the parry vulnerability: at Midra's Mance, you can get a Torn-Diary Page which has a poem which describes the process of parrying them and being able to attack them in rather poetic language.
With Melina, as long as Church of Elleh, First Steps, and Gatefront are all triggered, she will spawn in at ANY sight of grace you next rest at that isn't inside a Catacomb.. I rested at the one by Greyoll and she spawned in there..
If you read the lore on the final boss' armor, it answers a question we've had since one of the very first trailers of the main game, that of what a certain person was whispering to another person in said trailer. Very cool callback that I was happy to see!
I've been seeing a lot of people not happy with that last boss fight because of who it was but like... bruh we had this question for 2 years and it finally got answered
@@Thicccbankai Which I don't understand. I was mouth agape absolutely flabbergasted and like "holy fuck yes" at that cutscene. I thought it was cool as hell and gave context for some requirements that we all had questions about.
The one thing I can think of is when your fighting the Scadutree Avatar. When you kill them in phase one or two, you have an opportunity to critical hit them. And if you do, the following phase starts off with less HP. I think around 70-80%. If you leave them be, the following phase starts up with them at full HP.
the lore of his remembrance states that marika sealed the abyssal base serpent behind his eye using a seal of grace. that explains why he is the one to have a special eye, yet we dont know why melina has a purple eye (She is presumably his little sister, i dont remember where i read that piece of info though)
@@Blackblade-NeX oh okay that’s cool, i do wish we got to learn more about Melina in the dlc, same with Godwyn tho I wish we could learn more about him
@@Blackblade-NeX yeah Melina remains a mistery beyond knowing that Melina should be the sister of Messmer (his flame says that he shares the same fire affinity as his little sister). The closed eye of melina has to be a curse of some kind, the same way Messmer was born a literal snake, which is making me doubt that radagon is the father. Because the only children of Marika that were able to use Fire to burn the trees were Messmer and Melina, not Miquella and Malenia nor the ones she got with Godrick, Godwyn, Mohg and Morgott. But I highly doubt we will ever know more on this regard, I thought with the cinematic trailer that we would know more about how marika became a god, but we only got to know her past, which is cool, but I wanted to know more, i would have preferred that to the new plot of Miquella
@@EtheonStarWanderer I don't know if it has been debunked but i do still believe that the spears that killed the firegiants are from Messmer. If that is true then he would've already been born before Marika married Radagon.
There is an entirely unique black knight boss called Garrew with a unique crucible incantation, or at least it seems like it is one. Has a giant frog tongue that he attacks you with.
@kristophercote4423 same here, missed opportunity. Hopefully, they can add it with enough feedback, but I have some doubts. I was completely caught off guard when that happened and bursted into laughter.
Omg, that just made me realize something. Likely a very very far stretch, but I wonder if his name "Garrew" is meant to be a pun on the Japanese onomatopeia for frogs, "gero-gero."
I'm amazed at the size of the DLC, I was looking for a map part and then I realized there was another one showing on my screen, I wish I could see my face because my jaw dropped when I realized the map kept going south much more than I thought. From really outdid themselves with this DLC. It's a fucking sequel packed as DLC.
You can also return to the Grandam after using the Skull of Lamentation item to turn into a hornsent. Doing so will allow access to a (one at a time) buff providing soup. Furthermore, return AGAIN after the Messmer fight and she'll give 2 stronger versions of the soup before ultimately falling asleep from old age. Based on her dialogue, I believe her sleep has an association with St. Trina. but that is just speculation on my part
Fun fact: the location that you acquire the stone-seathed sword changes the location of the alters of light and darkness. I picked up the sword at the ancient ruins and the alter if light was at the ruins with the wickerman.
Bayle was amazing such a beautiful lore I mean the environmental story there is epic A Great Drakelord of the Jagged peak challenges and mortally wounds Placidusax the dragonlord before fleeinng back to his peak. The ancient dragons and their cult assail the mountain killing the drakes off but none could summit the mount and beat the dread drake himself. Even ancient dragon senneax was too fearful to continue up the summit to challenge him And here we come with the best voice actor in gaming history to slay him Just such an epic fight probably my favorite in the whole game at least as far as dragons and beast go
I really like that it ties together so well with the Dragon Communion Cult that serves Placidusax. The small details like how they only eat the hearts of Bayle's descendants, the drake-like newer generation of dragons, and how the Ancient Dragons don't have soft edible hearts in the first place etc.
@@lcjjeff9808 I legit could not beat Bayle until I summoned Igon He didn't even do much fighting But his voice acting hyped me up so much I got like a 50% skill buff

Margit's Shackle has a super long range. I can't imagine it was intended but it's a cool trick so I hope they don't patch it out. It trivializes the Auriza Hero Grave chariot trick - you can pop it when you first get to the little pit where the two chariots spawn alternating down the hill, and it will bring the flame pillar up so that the light will shine on the ground and destroy them
The old lady will talk to you if you go to her before killing the beast She roasts you thinking you're a Messmer follower Then she becomes silent when the lion dies And talks again after wearing its head
The Smithscript weapons get a slight physical attack damage scaling from your int and faith stat. What most people don't know is that if you give them an int or faith based infusion your new C or B rank int/faith scaling will apply to both the physical and the elemental damage of the weapon making them outstandingly powerfull on those builds.
The spiritspring thing is definitely still just the shackle doing its thing again. I managed to hit the one below the small keep east of Ensis from the plateau above, and just jump down. The shackle is crazy.
I absolutely loved the DLC but I’m actually sad about the fact we didn’t get anything on Melina and Godwyn. I’d say I’m genuinely disappointed in that aspect. Besides that they cooked again, just like with Bloodbornes and DS3s DLC.
Fun fact: besides the final boss any remeberence boss can be the first you fight in the DLC. Midra is the only one being locked behind defeating a dungeon boss, everyone else can be absolute first boss.
Isn't putrescent knight locked behind like two dungeon boss fights? And bayle, had to go through a dungeon boss as well as a dragon boss gauntlet to get to him (ik you can skip the two dragons prior, still gotta go through the dungeon boss tho). And anything after rellana you can't even get to, because her defeat is essential to progressing the map. So you realistically have dancing lion, rellana, and you can reach putrscent knight before rellana but you gotta go through a boss or two. You can also kill bayle before rellana as well, but again gotta kill bosses prior to him So you really got 4 options as a first remembrance boss. Once rellana is defeated is when we get access to the other 6
@@Thicccbankai you can skip rellana with a spiritspring, letting you access all other remembrance bosses (except bayle yh) as your first (you might have to take the back entrance to shadow keep to avoid hippopotamus)

@lharsay some people consider bayle a remembrance boss, some don't. But there's stated to be 10 remembrance bosses in the DLC, and there's 9 without bayle included so... take that as you will. His remembrance is his heart, as it's for lore implications that obviously flew right over your head. You also get access to TWO of his moves, like other remembrances 😂😂😂
Actually thought it was the coolest thing finding that I had to put on the lion's head to talk to the lady in the past I've watched guide for stuff like that it was really cool figuring that out on my own
Great video. Like actually so cool like always. You always manage to get me to be like “oh yeah I know that” and then surprise with more detail making me go “WHAT”
I love how they tell you not engage with the Aging Untouchables and if you decide by any chance to do the only thing to expose them to an attack and do kill them you get a talisman. The game rewards a bunch of counterintuitive stuff, finding out secrets like this on my own makes my brain drool dopamine.
Why is fire forbidden in the Lands Between? Not because it burns wood and kills trees, but because it destroys that which the Fungus can thrive on. I am not sure whether there are real life mushrooms that can survive in an ashen waste, but I would be willing to wager there are not.
Hey man I appreciate how you were mindful of where most of us still are in the DLC and made the video a great experience for us without having to worry about being spoiled
Its strong if you use its ash of war to buff your holy damage then switch to a weapons/spell that has holy damage. It stacks with golden vow and the frenzy scream for a massive offensive buff
Only thing I hated was how much didn't get answered and didn't make sense outside that only bad thing I can say is they made a lot of empty land and some parts should have had more to offer like the shaman village
@@joshuawilson9005 Way to many resued enemies, terrible overworld items and the lore is dissapointing especially since this will be the END for Elden Ring.

The Margit's Shackle thing is a bug that's been present in the game for ages now. Some of the chariot dungeons in the base game can be trivialized with it.
One of my biggest discoveries is that Midras, Lord of Frenzy Flame, is most likely Messmer/Melina’s Father 🤯🧐 Also the reason all those Drakes are dead on the mountain as well as all the crater… was from Placidusax! There is some question about his reference to an abyss snake and then we see the abyssal woods. But I haven't put together any direct connections yet.
Now that I’ve beaten the dlc, I’ve been thinking of what else they could do. And I feel there’s still a lot of stuff. The Gloam Eyed Queen is one that comes to mind. Godwyn The Golden and his whole dream realm thing and the death root could be further explained aswell. The Badlands are another area that would be cool to see along with The Land Of Reeds aswell.

@@Svoorhout85 exactly. I know for a fact that will be another DLC because he’s the only god we haven’t properly seen yet and his visage doesn’t only show in the base game. So I think we will get something from him one day.
But what would be the problem with collecting information from various sources, compiling it into one source, and distributing it to your audience? Why would it be a requirement for him to discover this information strictly through his own gameplay? He has found info that many players hadn't, and is informing his audience. I don't think the source of the info really matters, as long as the info is factual.
The stone sheathed sword is found at whichever altar you visit and pick it up for the first time from, however I recommend picking it up from the catacombs because then you won’t have to go through them again whenever you want to change it from light to dark or vice versa.

I totally agree as well, but I get a feeling like it was ready for some time and they did really want to ensure that nothing bad will happen like in so many other games nowadays
they got SO MUCh verticality and yet they hide the Abyssal Woods behind some random catacombs. also, the NPC quests are the worst they have designed yet and that is saying something because they arent particularly known for those. and the last thing, the Challice and the structure next to it and the Scadutree are just there for decoration, heck even the Black Keep is just Messmer. it is a very underwhelming dlc and did not live up to my hype

While I'm trying to save my life fighting Bayle, Ziostorm is finding Placidusax's two biting heads on his Bayle's body :D Haha I like the leftover odd stake of Marika. It's a cool thing, I hope they leave it like that.
As unhinged as it sounds, I really don't believe SOTE is going to be the only Elden Ring DLC. Call it copium or whatever, but they also told us the expansion would be "About the size of Limgrave."
I actually found the Sword in the ruins of Unte behind the Furnace Golem. That was my first Shrine I found with the sword. I could turn it into the sword of darkness inside the dungeon you found the sword at. I have not seen the light altar yet. I think the first shrine you find gives you the sword but im not sure but I do know that I got the sword in the Ruins and turned it into the Darkness sword inside the dungeon.
There’s the bug person who can come to life by the cathedral if you give a warning stone, and eventually you get a cookbook, if you don’t accidentally kill him.
Feels like I’m the only one who LOVES the putrescent knight :( legit top 5 boss in the game for me. Love the runback, the arena, the moveset, the music, everything. He’s like the perfect moderate challenge with a really well defined moveset that makes you feel like a beast once you get it down.
The thing about the sword of light/darkness is that it's not specific to altars, but by order of acquiring and visiting. Whichever altar you visit first will give the sword. The second will always make it light. The third will always make it darkness. I know this because this is the 2nd way I seen it told for an order, and my order was a 3rd order of at Rauh first, then behind the golem for light, and Fog Catacombs for dark. So it's at the player's convenience.
I missed all the lore and hidden Elden ring secrets video's. Im glad your back with fresh lore. Tho im saddened this is all were gonna get of this Elden World
So @Ziostorm, regarding the swords of light and darkness, the stone sheathed sword first of all spawns in 3 locations. The one you mentioned, at the altar in ruins of Unte and finally at the altar in Rauh. Whichever one you pick up first, the other two won't spawn anymore. I picked up the sword in different playthroughs in all 3 locations and once doing so, they no longer spawn in the other 2. And 2nd, the altar of darkness is also in dark rift catacombs where you pick up the sword, provided you did not pick it up elsewhere. That's where I turned my own sword into darkness. All of this I tested myself. Fyi.
Note on the stone sheathed sword, the alters are interchangeable. I picked up my stone sheathed sword at the third location in rauh, got sword of darkness in fog rift and sword of light behind the furnace golem. The first you find will have sword and i think the second you find may become the alter of darkness (either that or which alter becomes which is random).

Torrent in a spooky forest: 😱
Torrent isn't available in the spooky forest because there's only one non-rat enemy there that speeding through on Torrent would trivialize the entire area gameplay-wise.
Though I'm sure someone will do a 1 hour lore video using From's contrived storytelling to justify it lol
One of the item descriptions in that area explains: "Spirits are eternal, and yet frenzied flame melts them away regardless."
So Torrent, who is a spirit steed, is probably scared of that area because it's filled with the only thing that can kill it.
Also, in the game Torrent "dies" many times and you can revive it by using your flask, but if you do the frenzied flame ending, then Torrent dies for good.

I thought about that too, but I've come to the conclusion that we already were presented with the necessary information, but haven't pieced it together properly yet.
Thing is turned out all the lore did not matter. It was story of Marika's reign, and now we pretty much know all about it. ELDEN RING is over...
Well Melina is Messmers sister. It says on one of his items equipment or weapon that his sister also was born with flame. Only thing I found about her
Instead we learned about Miquella x Radahn incest...

Using one once apparently solves the entire Sage's Cave. Great trick for cutting down on tedium in NG+.
dual wielding Light and Darkness is they way to go since you will get both damage buff and enemy defense shred, but this requires two playthroughs or someone to drop it for you. also, where you pick the sword up at then determines the altar locations. all three altars have the stone shesth sword and then when the player picks it up the other two disappear and become altars of light and dark instead.

Major spoilers after the break, just to be safe:
First - Ranni sacrificed her body to attain autonomy and defy her fate.
Vaatividya:
*taking notes frantically*
Rannis ending is explicitly one which has no outer gods controlling it, meanwhile Miquella was all about wanting the outer gods out of the world and even though he never says specifically the age of compassion would be about that I think it would be
Honestly its SO weird that there was no trace of the godskin people in the realm of shadow
Best Melina explanation I’ve seen. Good work.
You didn't mention that the old lady will give you soup! Like, literal soup. It's a healing /buffing item. Talk to her again after killing Messimer! I didn't even need to put the lion head back on.

exhausting dialogues is basically a given in fromsoft games so it probably wasnt worth mentioning
You can also give this soup to the friendly hornsent guy at his 2nd location after the relanna fight. Anyone do this?
It’s extremely saddening that is the only DLC for Elden Ring. Feel like there is much more left on the plate for future DLC’s.
@@jakeryan2805 Sadly they can't make Bloodborne 2 unless Sony gives them the go ahead as they own the IP.
From the Gloam eyed Queen, to Melina, Godwyn, even messmer and miquella being in the same area and not having any interaction with each other almost like they don't know each other. Instead we get to see more about where the big dirty fingers come from
@alexfernandez9400 we got melina lore, shes messmer's sister. And not appreciating the fingers lore is a major L ngl
@jakeryan2805 There is nothing left to explore that wouldn't just be doubling down on prior lore. Most of the great mysteries have been explained.
This is really good observation.

That Bayle thing is super cool! I never saw the heads there!
You can also kill bayle before rellana as well, but again gotta kill bosses prior to him
So you really got 4 options as a first remembrance boss. Once rellana is defeated is when we get access to the other 6
@@Thicccbankai you can skip rellana with a spiritspring, letting you access all other remembrance bosses (except bayle yh) as your first (you might have to take the back entrance to shadow keep to avoid hippopotamus)
@goblinsinc.8274 oh wow, I actually didn't know about the spiritspring to skip rellana! Shit and I thought I explored this DLC to the fullest 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ I have a whole ass almost 70 hours in the DLC alone and beat the final boss yesterday 😂 shit bro I guess I needa pay more attention
@@Thicccbankai Bayle drops a dragon heart not a rememberance.
The golden hippo is also skipable like Rellana.
1:57 I’ve been sanitizing areas with my shackle since the original release. The mechanic still works just fine.
I am not sure whether there are real life mushrooms that can survive in an ashen waste, but I would be willing to wager there are not.
you can actully talk to the crone if you find her before the boss fight but after you beat the dancer she wont talk until you wear the helmet
Hey man I appreciate how you were mindful of where most of us still are in the DLC and made the video a great experience for us without having to worry about being spoiled
Been using the sword if light/darkness as my main
Not incredibly strong, but so,so stylish
Its strong if you use its ash of war to buff your holy damage then switch to a weapons/spell that has holy damage. It stacks with golden vow and the frenzy scream for a massive offensive buff
@@SecretMarsupial yea, I know, but that's lame. I'm using the weapon for its own sake, not to setup something else
There’s lots of new info like usual thx , I hope you continue your explore video they r a big help and makes me enjoy the game even more
I messed up the sword of dark and light. Now when i switch i have to travel to the dungeon to get the sword of dark.
You have to hit the Altar everytime you want to change it
@@TTVBunnyDougie yeah. I have to travel to the rot area for the sword of light and travel to the dungeon for the sword of dark every time.
@@TTVBunnyDougie oh so its not two separate swords? You have to physically switch it back and forth?
@@jakeryan2805 yes its one sword that can either be light or darkness mode.
Looks like I had missed the invisible bridge leading to the temple of light. Thanks for the video
Lore wise, I couldn't be more disappointed in this dlc
Only thing I hated was how much didn't get answered and didn't make sense outside that only bad thing I can say is they made a lot of empty land and some parts should have had more to offer like the shaman village
@@joshuawilson9005Shaman village is empty because everybody is dead.
Really? I’m loving the extra lore. I can’t believe the whole “mother of fingers” thing lol
@@joshuawilson9005 Way to many resued enemies, terrible overworld items and the lore is dissapointing especially since this will be the END for Elden Ring.
Yeah lore is very bad. And why are they referencing characters from fricking star wars and marvel? Like the yoda enemy and wolverine? Also that one village which is full of that invader npc from ds1, and that demons souls npc with the black katana... it's so corny and cheesy I just don't care about the dlc lore anymore. I feel like they are just trolling
The Margit's Shackle thing is a bug that's been present in the game for ages now. Some of the chariot dungeons in the base game can be trivialized with it.
One of my biggest discoveries is that Midras, Lord of Frenzy Flame, is most likely Messmer/Melina’s Father 🤯🧐
Also the reason all those Drakes are dead on the mountain as well as all the crater… was from Placidusax! He demolished all those Drakes!!!! It’s stated that Ancient Dragons and Drakes are different species. Placidusax came in a ravaged all of them!!! 😳
Where did you come up with that idea about Messmer?
how do you know that?
@@rainbowkrampus in the story trailer we see a picture of Marika and Midra together and Marika is holding her belly. Messmer has flame affinity and melina can become kindling. (messmer item decription says he has a sister) so putting it all together it just makes sense
@@CoffeeBrainzzThat’s not Marika that’s Nanaya
@@CoffeeBrainzz Yeah, like D-Force said, that's Nanaya. We see that painting in the mansion and we see that woman's corpse too.
There is an interesting puzzle there, but I don't think it's one related to Messmer. Not that directly at any rate.
There is some question about his reference to an abyss snake and then we see the abyssal woods. But I haven't put together any direct connections yet.
Its the radius of margit/mohg's shackle. It was on twitter a little bit ago, but the area that both those cover is absolutely insane.
Guess we’ll never know if Melina is the Gloam-Eyed Queen or not.
She's mesmers sister, so it's still a huge possibility since all but one of Marika's kids are cursed.
I mean the dlc confirms that she is messmers sister, so unless there is some form of reincarnation at play here, she is the daughter of marika.
@@AndrewStonerock i dont think she can be her daughter (messmer sister) AND gloom eyed queen at the same time. GEQ imo is someone else
@@miserere_me9168 why not? Literally 3 of her other children are Empyrean.
@@AndrewStonerockGEQ was killed by Maliketh for Marika to take the throne
Now that I’ve beaten the dlc, I’ve been thinking of what else they could do. And I feel there’s still a lot of stuff.
The Gloam Eyed Queen is one that comes to mind. Godwyn The Golden and his whole dream realm thing and the death root could be further explained aswell. The Badlands are another area that would be cool to see along with The Land Of Reeds aswell.
I was hoping we'd encounter a living version of Godwyn's freaky monstrous form. But we see that giant ugly face again in the boss rooms of the crypts with the death knights.
@@Svoorhout85 exactly. I know for a fact that will be another DLC because he’s the only god we haven’t properly seen yet and his visage doesn’t only show in the base game. So I think we will get something from him one day.
I feel like ziostorm just took all these from Twitter 😭
Most of these were just me finding them in my playthrough or people sending them to me
Because he did
A lot of people are going to come to the same conclusions, but maybe 🤷🏻♂️
But what would be the problem with collecting information from various sources, compiling it into one source, and distributing it to your audience? Why would it be a requirement for him to discover this information strictly through his own gameplay? He has found info that many players hadn't, and is informing his audience. I don't think the source of the info really matters, as long as the info is factual.
The stone sheathed sword is found at whichever altar you visit and pick it up for the first time from, however I recommend picking it up from the catacombs because then you won’t have to go through them again whenever you want to change it from light to dark or vice versa.
Unpopular opinion I like the dlc but it wasn’t worth waiting 2 years and the final boss was meh I expected more from FromSoftware I really enjoy it just my personal opinion it was like a 8.5
I agree. I don't understand how it took them 2 years. 7.5/10 for me.
Agreed!
@@opethmikeit is literally the size of Dark souls 3. That’s why it took 2 years.
I really love how the veil above the lands of shadow moves the way it does ❤
as always appreciate the work you do with camera work. You not getting a review code but Arlo getting is something that I'll never understand. They think that will bring new players but lmao. It's Arlo.
While I'm trying to save my life fighting Bayle, Ziostorm is finding Placidusax's two biting heads on his Bayle's body :D
Haha I like the leftover odd stake of Marika. It's a cool thing, I hope they leave it like that.
As unhinged as it sounds, I really don't believe SOTE is going to be the only Elden Ring DLC. Call it copium or whatever, but they also told us the expansion would be "About the size of Limgrave."
About the size of Limgrave (horizontally)
I actually found the Sword in the ruins of Unte behind the Furnace Golem. That was my first Shrine I found with the sword. I could turn it into the sword of darkness inside the dungeon you found the sword at. I have not seen the light altar yet. I think the first shrine you find gives you the sword but im not sure but I do know that I got the sword in the Ruins and turned it into the Darkness sword inside the dungeon.
i thought it was big until i started finding map fragments now its massive
No one is talking about how Miqulla’s great rune breaks the “charm” from the hug in the final fight
1:33 both shackles also work in hero's graves to activate pillars from very far away so it's very likely that this works because of the range
The tower crone secret is crazy, good work!
Everything was very interesting. You have earned a subscriber.
There’s the bug person who can come to life by the cathedral if you give a warning stone, and eventually you get a cookbook, if you don’t accidentally kill him.
Awesome tip for the spirit spring! thank you!
Dang, that bayle lore is crazy. Probably dies 100 times to him, but finally got him
Lady who's used to her cat cavorting too hard is relatable
solid that your thought about the people only half way through
Feels like I’m the only one who LOVES the putrescent knight :( legit top 5 boss in the game for me. Love the runback, the arena, the moveset, the music, everything. He’s like the perfect moderate challenge with a really well defined moveset that makes you feel like a beast once you get it down.
THANKS TO DO THIS CONTENT WITHOUT SPOILERS!
I didn’t know about the heads still attached to bayel that’s so sick
I missed all the lore and hidden Elden ring secrets video's. Im glad your back with fresh lore. Tho im saddened this is all were gonna get of this Elden World
Well done video as always, cheers
I like the fact that the Fire Knight Queeling is voiced by the actor who played Athlestan in the Viking series.
That’s cool I didn’t know that
Damn you got me, had to hit that like button in the first 30 secs lol
Can’t wait for a detailed story lore explanation
That one lava golem sniped me of the ladder. Out of spite of my death i only killed his pet and skidaddled away
Fyi.
I learned something right off the bat. That’s adorable!
New secret videos? HYPE AS HALIGTREE!!!
Another secret about the tower crone: if you talk to her after you complete the DLC she will congratulate you on defeating everyone and tell you to take a rest, it’s a surprisingly sweet interaction
I can't wait for the break down videos on the reskinned and re tooled boss fights. I can see so many main game bosses re used in good ways.
