    • @Joe-bt9sw
      @Joe-bt9sw 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chu0435 I bought treated lumbers to do the same but I’m somewhat hesitant, because It’s said treated lumbers contain arsenic which would gradually leach into water and could then be toxic to fish. If I’d use treated boards, there’d be 2 inches of the boards submerging in water. What’s your advice? Thanks!

    • @chu0435
      @chu0435  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Quite involved system. You do have a lot of Koi in there so you do need a lot. I have a 1000 gallon with 7 arm length koi. I have a big skimmer with brushes 2 bio falls plus a small bog with a small waterfall. The water is crystal clear but I do have to clean filters more than I’d like. I noticed you have a sieve filter. How much water are you pumping in there. I’ve made a few different ones and can’t seem to get them to do much. Using 250 mesh screen. I’m pumping around 4500GPH at each bio fall. I tried a manifold to disperse the water, then a section with a weir to get a nice flow but still nothing to speak of removal wise. Don’t quite understand why. Any advice will be appreciated.

    • @chu0435
      @chu0435  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am using a 4,200 gal pump for the sieve filter and the micron size is the same as yours I believe. For the sieve filter I also created a weir to capture the fish waste and send it to another 55 gallon barrel, from the barrel it traps all the particals and sends the water back to the pond, that way you don't have to clean it as often. Hope that help

    I hate to hear about your losses but it's extremely common for temperature losses to be the biggest ones first!! It's because of Increased toxic gases in the fishes gills brought on by the lack of O2 exchanges obviously the bigger the fish the more exchange needs to happen and the size of the fish is always their downfall when this happens?!!! Never allow the pond to freeze completely over you can very easily get a heater and prevent a ice event from killing anymore fish , look into them you have a really cool diy filtration system going on I'm sure you can prevent iceing in the future....I think your pond in amazing nothing cooler than walking up seeing that many koi greeting you!! Amazing filtration and pond for sure!!

    • @chu0435
      @chu0435  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Koi can survive freezing temperatures as long you make sure the whole pond does not freeze on top, you need a pond de-icer to keep a small hole on the top water so oxygen exchange can occur and your koi will be fine

      I would advise you to build your pond as simple as possible, whatever size you want to build at first double that size when you build it, cause in a few months you will think that your pond is too small and that you should've built it bigger. Don't cut into your linener trust me it will have you so much hassle in the long run. Incorporate aquaponic into your filter design. I used the new energy efficient pump that delivers 4,200 gal/HR but it only use about 120 watts, cost around $70. Hope that helps, Good luck!

    The best filter system, by far, is a RDF drum filter and a 55-gallon drum moving bed. It doesn't seem like you feed that much because the sive is so small and it can handle your bio load. I've tried this and my sive would clog up within a few hours.

      Thanks!! The 55 gal drum act like a moving bed, I feed my kois once or twice a day. My sive filter collects the fish waste and sends it to another 55 gal barrel that collects it so I can use it to feed my plants

    Koi died in the winter because your pond is not deep enough and sorry to say this but u have way too many fish for the size of the pond.
