    Great info, Ted. The gap thing is just like the octane myth, that higher octane in and of itself will grant you more HP. Another one is the exhaust back-pressure myth, that lack of it will burn valves. Don't know how these tales get started, but there's alot of 'em out there!
    On the spark subject, I had a '00 4.3 V6 in a '89 S10 Blazer years back. I had stripped all the FI off and went back to basics - carburetor and HEI ignition. I grabbed a HEI distributor off eBay real cheap, and ran the plugs at the factory setting of .060". I learned a little something about ignitions after that, hahaha! After burning up 2 Chinese HEI modules one after the other, I finally installed a much better quality Echlin module, closed the gap to .45", and still got just .5 MPG less than it did when it was fuel injected (carb was damn close right out of the box, lucky me). No more HEI failures every 4-8k miles either. 😁 That was the best running vehicle in my fleet after that. Prior to that, it had misfiring issues at full throttle that slowly crept down into lower and lower RPM ranges, and would also come and go intermittently. The Chinese just haven't been able to copy an HEI module yet, at least not on eBay. 😉

    Thank you brother JR. That is a good perspective. The larger the gap, as long as you have enough voltage to handle it, the more fire. Of course then we get into combustion and what fuel ignites hotter with that spark/fire/explosion to push that piston down. How about mixing a little TNT in the tank? LOLOLOLOL

    • @JANNETTYRACING
      @JANNETTYRACING  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      since opening the gap increased spark energy you can burn more of the fuel in the chamber but will not fix a condition where too much fuel is injected.

    I have a 2020 V6 charger, no engine mods, just an oil catch can. Thinking about upgrading the coils with RIPP coils. Would i gain anything from this? Or not worth it upgrading just coils? And if I do upgrade the coils would I be OK using the the stock mopar V6 Spark plugs? Oh vehicle had only 15,000 miles don't want to change plugs if I don't need to.

      If you listen carefully to the video you will understand what I am saying, Closing the gap will reduce the amount of spark energy it takes to jump the gap. I wouldn't go .050 but I would go 0.040 to maximize efficiency but not push the coils past there ability.

      Start at .098 and increase in .001 increments until the engine won't run. Back off .003 until it just starts to run and then add .007. You should be in what we call "the perfect gap" range.

      If you get incomplete combustion on one cycle the next cycle could have left over fuel in the combustion chamber that is highly volatile and ignite on the next compression cycle so Yes.

    • @JANNETTYRACING

      If you listen to the message in the video you will understand that If your ignition system can't handle the boost there is something wrong with the ignition system and closing the gap is only a bandaid for a broken leg. boost the voltage to your coils instead of closing the gap tune the Dwell time on the coils also.

      @@gecko1406 We found that aftermarket coils are more prone to misfire due to the fact that the wiring can not support the added load from the supposed high output coils Factory coils out perform aftermarket coils on stock wring. JMS offers ignition voltage boosters that work incredibly well then you can go back to larger gaps.

      @@300tolife8 it worked and I didn't see huge results. It just allows you to run leaner but that lean mixture is still limited by compression so you couldn't run any leaner than the motor wants regardless of spark. A stock ignition coil can support up to 50 before it runs like shit and the blaster 2 coil can support 60+ no problem, just watch the piston clearance. Nothing serious to stress but I just like the idea of more lightning in the chamber hehe
