I live in Kenya, Africa. Avocados grow everywhere in my great grandparents home which is in a remote village, as of now I have approximately 20 avocados in my pantry waiting to ripen. I eat avocados almost every meal.
In California, where the domestically produced avocados are grown, the price can fluctuate wildly between seasons. When it's peak harvest time, and nearly-ripe fruits need to head to a nearby market for sale before they can go bad, the price will often drop lower than the price of apples, but in the off-season they can cost $2 each. It's kind crazy, though I suppose it makes sense from a supply-chain perspective.

So many things that were a sign of poverty back then, now are considered cool, and heatly, like going to work on a bike

as a Vietnamese, I feel fortunate and proud to say that I can have access to fresh, reasonably-priced and locally produced avocados here in Vietnam. If you have a chance to visit this country, you guys should check it out.
“Avocados are expensive”
Me, laughs in Filipino: come here and we will give you a basket for free

We pick them for free over here
In México too, all the good quality avocado is exported at high prices because of the hazard agriculture's have to endure, whatever does not fullfil the international standards stays in the country but for most people is not affordable
That's a true story brother 🤝🤝🤝😂😂😂

banana brain :P Most of my Avo’s go bad in the ripening process and it doesn’t seem to matter where from Mexi , Chilean or American . Must be the pre- gassing? My own Rudolf Haas trees are perfect every time (Orange County California)?
They are expensive here in Northern Europe aswell. Maybe because they are imported from south america
When I was a kid, we used to have 3 avocado trees at the back yard. We had so many we would have give them to the pigs to eat.
America is trying so hard to be "healthy" with trends
That has been the problem for decades people follow fads if everyone lernt to eat in moderation and a variety of foods they all would be living a healthier life, remember years ago butter was bad for us then they say we should eat a little butter then it was steak, then dairy anything in excess is bad for us so again moderation is the name of the game, from what I have seen on youtube and other media platforms america has a real problem with portion sizes bigger is not always better, cheese in an aerosol can sorry I find that disgusting and is it real cheese and orange cheese whats that about?
Spiritpoweredinternet that’s just human nature my dude
@@funkq2134 Yes they have been eating unhealthy food and now trying to be better. But the diet trend in america always affects the other countries that sometimes it is not good (high demand and pricey). Even america wash their eggs before selling, just another reason why their immunity decreasing.
If it takes a trend to get people eating healthier, it is still a step in the right direction. Better a trend in avocados than one in something that is unhealthy.
Foolish Mortal Tbf US people’s mindset is more sheeplike. People are just way too easily manipulated, more so than other countries
Wow. So much energy to grow an avacado. I’m never going to waste one again.

I don’t pay for avocado EVER because I’m in uk but I grow avocado on my farm that my family owns there amazing
I'm from Chile, when I was a child, around 50 years ago, in the village where my family was from, in each house, there was one avocado tree, and one walnut tree, these were very small farmers but at the time, those foods weren't mainstream, besides the kind of avocado tree was not Hass, those were incredibly tall trees, and to reach the fruit was a very dangerous endeavor because a fall from that height was almost certain death
Avocados used to be cheap but we're having a terrible drought for about ten years now
How things change! So many things that were a sign of poverty back then, now are considered cool, and heatly, like going to work on a bike
Wow that's really interesting my grandfather has avocado trees and they are really tall

This one and another comment from the Philippines mentioned that. I must know as a Mexican, are avocados abundant in Asia?
@@jib1823 IDK in other asian countries but here in the Philippines you can say it's quiet abundant. Though it's not like you'd see it anywhere nor could you buy it any time of the year but it's also not that rare to buy one this expensive. I think you can buy a kilo or two here without spending more than 3$ depending on which area you're buying it

I agree 😂, I live in the Caribbean and avocado trees are everywhere and cheap.
And Norway. You can get really cheap ones for next to nothing, but they are super hard and tastes bitter, and they are very tiny with more pit than green.
The normal haas ones cost $3-4 per fruit.

But what size
5 for a dollar are usually smallish
We also have ARTICHOKES❤️
@@og-greenmachine8623 They're kinda big, but it depends on the country. As the last response said, in Bolivia you get even 10 for one dollar, unlike my country, that is weirdly poor and expensive at the same time.
Also, what are Artichokes???
Which variety? Hass is always expensive, same as every variety without "strings" and creamy, the watery or fibrous ones are cheap everywhere.
