To be snugged in a French cafe, on a rainy day no less, sipping coffee with a friend sounds lovely ☕️ 🇫🇷

We really appreciate your commitment to film in all weathers (I didn"t go outside at all yesterday) but do get a decent pair of boots for winter. The marvellous thing about daily vlogging is we see Paris in all its different guises: sunny blue skies, rain, wind. Not just its picture postcard appearance.

Everyone has this romantic feeling of how wonderful and beautiful Paris is, but I want to thank you for so clearly demonstrating how it can be most of the time during certain parts of the year LOL -- this is the real Paris! That said, it really is great no matter the season or weather. There's always something good to do--warm cafes in winter and cool museums in summer and everything in between

I met my husband on Rue de Tour Maubourg. We had our first date at Le Recruitment Cafe on Rue de Saint Dominique, which crosses over Rue Cler at one point. This is my favorite little morsel of Paris! Thank you for showing it to us.

Jay, this video brought back an interesting memory. Back in 1971-72, after a year’s study in Vienna, I flew to Paris without telling anyone and with about $10 in my wallet. In the afternoon, I walked through the park and met a special friend (girl) that lived on Ave Charles de Floquet. A residence a block away from the Eiffel Tower. I met her and the mom. Her father was the ambassador to France from India. This was the official residence. My “romantic” week in Paris didn’t materialize and the next day I flew back to New York city. So, this video was a pleasant flashback and now you know why I watch your Parisian videos. I wish I spent a year or so in such an amazing city. Thanks.

Yes, you can go into the American church. The monument they have dismantled in Champ de Mars was Le Mur Pour La Paix, I don't know why or where is has gone and whether or not it is permanent. The new construction is for the 2024 Olympics, I believe.

Lovin’ this series, Jay. At 6:50 is the Carrousel de la Tour Eiffel, the only one I’ve ever seen that goes clockwise; all the rest I’ve come across go the other way ‘round. Beautiful carousel, worth a look-see while you’re in the neighborhood ... and a double-decker to boot.

I stayed not far from there (I was in the 15th) and my first morning, I went for a run to help with the jet lag, and ended up getting thoroughly confused by the streets not going the directions I thought. But I loved the views through there!
I'm not sure if it hits in this quarter (if not, it's close - 10 rue du Général Camou), but the American Library in Paris is currently the place I keep hoping will have a job opening. I could run it (ok, I probably couldn't just now, but a librarian can dream :) )

Excellent video. We always stay in the 7th when we visit Paris. Hotel Relais Bosquet right off Avenue Bosquet on Rue Champ de Mars. Love the entire Rue Cler neighborhood. Next time you’re in the Rue Cler area and you need some lunch there’s a great little Italian place called Le Den. Food is excellent and really good pizza.

Stayed at a hotel right around the corner from Rue Cler - great little classic market street to buy things for a picnic in nearby Champs de Mars. Another great picnic spot nearby is the gardens of the Rodin Museum - you can get admission to the gardens only for just a Euro or two - they have lounge chairs and everything, in addition to the sculptures of course. I seem to recall some good restaurants around there as well - been a few years though ;-)

I gave a thumbs up as I am enjoying this series, but I am more than a little disappointed that you did not visit the beautiful art deco apartment building on Avenue Rapp with the world famous door.
The sewer museum would happily let you film. That is a little gem of a museum in this quarter that a mask is ideal for!

We can cancel our flat reservation at no charge by Oct 20 so we’re hoping for some good news before then! 🤞🤞🤞We always stay in this area, one street off rue Cler, so all of these places are very familiar to us. Weird how
when you have a native speaker with you
    you go into "overchecking" mode
Checking whether you are saying names correctly
I am like that here in Germany.
It must be wearing for my friends too.
I suspect within the range of
    French dialects and accents
what you likely said was adequate
    But I understand the "paranoia"
    that can set in.

    • @JaySwanson
      @JaySwanson  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Definitely - but I've also been making more mistakes with all the names in the moment. Funny how I know how to say most of them properly but I still wind up saying them wrong sometimes - might as well take advantage of an expert when one's on hand =D

Also Rick Steve said you should get a chicken at Rue Clar so we did that but the guy never gave us silverware said he didn’t have it. so then we went to all the stores to find plastic silverware! we ate it by the Eiffel tower and it turns out the pigeons like to eat it too.
