  • I finally arrived info Kiruna airport (it’s tiny) after just making my connecting flight from Stockholm. Delayed inbound flight from Gatwick (surely not!) and slow security check in Stockholm meant it was a tight connection but I literally just made the connection. Upon arrival I quickly picked up my hire car, and for the first few hours, stayed closed to Kiruna to ease the trip in. This part of the world is beautiful as you’ll see over the coming days & as it is north of the Arctic circle, in the high summer the sun simply doesn’t set, a completely surreal experience. I have been wanting to visit this route for years and I finally managed to do it, albeit at great expense! The well known route of Kiruna - Narvik exports Iron Ore by rail, and is typically a 24 hour operation 7 days a week. These impressive trains are hauled by unique gigantic electric locos, built by #bombardiertransportation and designed on the TRAXX platform, Albeit far larger and more powerful, ideal for the 68 wagon long trains they carry.
Anyway, for the first part of this day I visited Rauthas, Rensjön & Kiruna (from 00:00 until 09:40) before going back to the hotel for dinner & then heading out again until 3am (clips from 09:45 until the end) at Kopparasen & Vassijaure. Yes, the last few clips were taken from 2300-0300!
    Enjoy!
