I used to live in Indianapolis and tossed unsalted in the shell peanuts to the squirrels in my back yard. Several became so tame that they would come to my back porch and wait for peanuts. One winter, a squirrel began losing its fur, and actually ended up being totally naked. I was afraid it would die from the cold weather, so several times a day I went outside and threw peanuts on the ground in front of it, and it would gobble them up. Miraculously, the poor thing began to grow fur, until one morning I could no longer tell it from the other squirrels. I really believe I saved its life. Needless to say, I love squirrels.
Fact 16. They destroy apartment buildings with wooden siding. They burrow themselves into the walls and eat through drywall and cause thousands of damage in buildings. Not to mention creating annoying gnawing noises for hours while sleeping....
They also like to chew plastic car parts. I just paid $500 to have a fuel line on my F150 replaced. The tech said he found peanut shells on top of the tank when he did the repair...my neighbor feeds these critters peanuts.
GREAT video. I have a 1/4 acre lot in a suburb of Cleveland with a very large pin oak tree, a well sized black walnut tree, and a bradford pear tree. I LOVE my black walnut tree. I give away hundreds of walnuts to neighbors every year, maybe a thousand, while sharing with the squirrels of course. I was delighted this winter to find SEVEN squirrel nests in the pin oak and ONE in the Bradford pear! I feel like God with my own ecosystem. AND the squirrels torture my dog. Come and get me which she can't, but it's good exercise for her.....
Number 11 was the fact that surprised me the most, omnivore. The short story: I had observed a squirrel with a field mouse in its mouth, then when I got home I google squirrels and what I discovered confirmed this fact. And, this was around ten years ago. I was aware of how friendly they can be for with time and patience any animal in wild can and will warm up to us.
@@YarrowPressburg Yikes! Does that mean I should not be feeding them to the Squirrels? They don't seem to be any worse for it. Although I have no way of knowing whether they are actually eating the seeds or discarding them. They seem to have good instincts as to what they can and cannot eat.
@ I don’t know, my friend feeds them her chickens and nothing has happened but it’s a lot of chickens and it’s not everyday, chickens don’t seem smart. Animals have a quicker digestive system than humans, and I don’t think there’s much poison in them though, we don’t eat u
@ unless you’r giving them a lot don’t worry, my friend gives them to her chickens, but it’s not everyday chickens are definitely not smart. I just thought you should know in case you might want to not, if there is an apple tree full you know they would eat them all. Maybe we should do more research. There no squirrels where I live. There is a TH-cam called squirrels at the window “ maybe you could ask her thoughts.
I had a baby squirrel in the house the boys were acting up kept on hollowing at them to set down when I came out from the bedroom on top of the sofa the squirrels was sitting there the animal control had to come and get him then for two weeks had to wait to see if it had rabies
Squirrels need specific elements in their environment: available food, water source, safety from predators, when preparing their 🪹 nests, so aren't going to wander far into unknown territory. 😉 💯🎐🎗🎇🎆
Their great, besides destroying your garden and costing so much in unsalted peanuts. They are fun to watch doing various squirrel things. Currently feeding 5 squirrels and a army of blue birds also the occasional crow sneaks in as well
@rccastro8297 the blue birds and the squirrels are bothers in arms. Do you know how unsettling it is to wake up every morning with birds and squirrels peering in? To beg for unsalted peanuts daily
We excluded a squirrel from our attic after it lived there for a week. After, It followed us for 4 days. Waited for us in the front house tree when we got home and sat on the house roof next door, window sill, backyard fence….staring at us the whole time. I think it was mad.
time stamp 1:18: squirrels have a special membrane called a "patagium".... your video has "potassium" 🙃 and thanks for all the facts, I have come to love squirrels, they are so smart and extremely entertaining 😎
Yes but the other side would shoot them in a sec too. Humans DOUBLED in 50 years and killed off 69% of Wildlife. -Birdman 🐤 Vegan 🦞 Future RIP Peanut 🥜
If these rodents were so smart the would stop screwing around with my blue jays, stop going into the live trap, understand what a firearm is, and, know my face as the angle of death.
Another case of humans destroying and not being good stewards of the earth, like what they did to the Buffalo and big wild cats, hunting to extinction. Shameful.

This year is the first year we have had black Eastern Fox Squirrels in my neighborhood. I have seen a few of them.
They are great weather forecasters, having branch offices world wide.
I read somewhere that most squirrels don't live long enough to see their first birthday. That is sad but I'm not surprised.

I was most surprised that they recognize human faces. I was also most surprised that they are omnivores.

RIP P'nuts😢
Had a squirrel waved at me when on my front porch. That weirded me out.
Whenever I eat an apple I put the core outside for the squirrels. They seem to really enjoy them.
Apple seeds contain cyanide

I unwittingly got friendly with a squirrel once and it ended up breaking into my house and ripping it apart.
I had a baby squirrel in the house the boys were acting up kept on hollowing at them to set down when I came out from the bedroom on top of the sofa the squirrels was sitting there the animal control had to come and get him then for two weeks had to wait to see if it had rabies
First and most important fact: EVERYTIME you said squirrel, my dogs ears perked up. This video drove him nuts.
Little known fact: Squirrels will live out their entire lives within a 100 feet radius of where they are born!!😅🎉❤❤❤

They travel to where the food is, up to a mile.
You must be talking about city squirrels, son

I hate the bluebirds they bully the squirrels I feed, and the Cardinals and steal their food! Even from squirrels mouths!

Ominvores yes - we have one that has a taste for sparrows even when food is plentiful.
Squirrels can run at seventeen miles an hour in their bare feet.
Imagine the difference when wearing shoes!
#16 They are mortal enemies to Boris and Natasha.
Rocky and Bullwinkle! Rocky used to be on TV when I came home from school. I Ioved the cartoon!
#16 they are tree rats
I have a friend, Pearl the squirrel, she has one eye..
One more fact ,their great eating!
I heard that they were nearly hunted too extinction in the 1800s
That's true, it's due to the red squirrels being such a nuisance.
thank you, machine narrator 🙄
I knew they could survive a fall but, I did not know the distance of 100’ was possible.👍🇺🇸✌🏻🤞🙏🏽
