Roger and Brian, the true rockers of the group! Their instrumentation is just killer on this. Thanks for the reaction. Thanks for John's recognition, a majority of the time he does not get the props he well deserves.
Just a nice, straightforward rock song. We need them. The first two times I saw them ('76 and '77) this was their second or third song. It got the crowd pumped and primed for what was to come.
I enjoy how the instrumental goes on longer than most of their songs. As much as I enjoy Freddie Mercury's vocals, it's good to hear the band break out and jam.
I’m glad you liked this one, thought you may not. This whole album works for me as a unit! It will be very serious one song and next could be a silly diddy. Even the quirkiest of songs from Queen are so COMPLEX! Did I mention this was my first album purchase in my young life when it came out? Lol
I don’t understand all the dislike for this song in the comments. It might be the weakest song on the album, but it still jams. I know it will be awhile, but you should do their debut album next.
I used to kinda dislike the track (as a straightforward rock track with a dito lyric), but not anymore. I like those poweredup May tracks. The album is a collage of different approaches, and make me happy
A piano is a keyboard. They used electric piano (as well as the obvious) on this album, and I'm sre there was organ on some early songs. They literally meant, no synths.
@@JH-lm2hx Sorry for the play of words not working properly here... "Keyboards" nowadays usually implies controllers to synths. When you hear the "keyboards" of Van Halen Jump or Europe's "The Final Countdown" you're generally talking about synths. When they are using piano or organs usually that is described as such. At least in the 70's and 80's that was the case.
Queen vibes!!🤘 By the way, it would be really interesting to know if you are familiar with a band called "The Windmill". I recently discovered this Norwegian band a few days ago, and I must say, they are exceptionally talented. It appears that they have been around since 2001, and it is quite astonishing how they have managed to remain relatively unknown. I had the pleasure of listening to their recent album titled "Tribus", and it is simply magnificent. The album begins with an epic 23-minute track called "The Tree", which is an absolute masterpiece. Their music gives me vibes of so many great bands like Jethro Tull, Camel, Genesis, and Uriah Heep, all blended together with a touch of neo-prog sound. It is complex, intricate, conceptual, and beautiful music, and the fact that it is played by non-professional musicians in a Norwegian garage makes it all the more impressive. If you haven't had the opportunity to listen to them yet, I highly recommend that you do. I assure you, you will not be disappointed. Thank you once again for your great reactions!💪🙏
Admittedly, a bit of a filler track, but very fun, May's work is great on this, and I agree about John Deacon. Roger is great on this too, and Freddie is, well, Freddie.🙂
one never sees this LP in the charity shops ..possibly the biggest influence on my childhood , alongside Alvin Stardust Slade Status Quo The Sweet and SEASONS IN THE SUN by Terry Jacks. diolch Justin your channel is a peach
Sweet cheese, what the heck is that? I want to try that. I’m just hungry, glad that’s over and Sir Justin didn’t hate it, onwards. Better things to come. Promise.
"A Night at the Opera" is one of the most unevenly mixed albums, and this song is one of the prime examples. Some of the songs sound incredibly produced, while this one really feels "off" in the mix between vocals and guitars. The music is incredible, but the production really needs a better hand to get the balance correct on some of these tracks. Would love it if Steve Wilson tried his hand at remixing this album.
Don't understand people who dismiss this as the weakest track on the album. Musically is is very original: I mean, where else do you hear heavy rock in 3/4 ?? then the breakdown to 4/4. In addition you get the tempo changes and one-liners such as the funny one with the"cheese". Heroic vocals from Mercury, Brian May doing his thing, and great rhythm section courtesy of Taylor and Deacon. To top it off it fits perfectly as an integral part of a greater whole that is A night at the opera.
Hey, don’t forget me… hearing it here with JP’s viewpoint, I see I’ve been somewhat hasty on my opinion. When you size it up against Bohemian Rap of curse it gonna be a sinker but it’s got its good points for sure and adds to the overall album tons.
Only track on this album I skip. Sounds like a paint-by-numbers 70s rock song. Even the band sounds bored to me. Every other track has much more going for it
Sweet cheese leaves an ineradicable bad taste. The mystery is how such a great riff can be the basis of such a terrible song. It ruins the flow of one of the best sides of an album ever recorded in an act of unforgivably crass musical vandalism. I hate this track.
Great track..riff drums..vocals ❤😊

So many cool hidden gems on this album and every Queen album.
One of Queen's greatest songs.....simple,strong,heavy....a classic🎸
A great old school rock track...love the breakdown too. Brian May...what a musician !
Love the lyric part you call me sweet like I'm some kind of cheese
I honestly think that on this track Freddie's vocal is at it's absolute peak
Just a nice, straightforward rock song. We need them.

Nicely put!
For some reason even some Queen fans dislike this song, but to me its brilliant, Brian and his guitar sounds in different songs is another big topic!
Thanks for noticing John& Rogers powerful rhythm section…great reaction❤
This song brought me back to there first three albums that really rocked with Brian, Roger and Deacon playing hard.👍🏻
Good stuff here for sure love you
Great track! The sweet like some kind of cheese line always cracks me up.
Love this song... Prehistoric The Cult here
I enjoy how the instrumental goes on longer than most of their songs. As much as I enjoy Freddie Mercury's vocals, it's good to hear the band break out and jam.
A hard rock tune in 3/4 is pretty unusual.

On the back of this album it says proudly: "No synthesizers!" so no keyboards on any song from this album... ;-)
From their debut to 'Jazz'.
A piano is a keyboard. They used electric piano (as well as the obvious) on this album, and I'm sre there was organ on some early songs. They literally meant, no synths.

Reminds me of the rockin songs on the first albums. No one sounds like Brian May.
Queen vibes!!🤘

Thank you once again for your great reactions!💪🙏
The Windmill are similar to The Flower Kings...try swedish proggers KAIPA.
Yeah, I know them both. They're also very good bands, thanks!🤘👍

Love this album. Sure it's a great Queen song, but on such a great album it fails to really stand out. Thanks for the Queen videos.

Yeah, let’s have a little ‘my coo ca choo’ lol Throw in some Suzy Quattro maybe? Devil Gate Drive! Yeah
Sweet cheese, what the heck is that? I want to try that. I’m just hungry, glad that’s over and Sir Justin didn’t hate it, onwards. Better things to come. Promise.
So I'm not the only one anxiously waiting for the first track on side 2?
Stupid question. LOL!
I appreciate these kind of tracks more as time goes on
same issue with whistling

Seems we're in the minority, but i couldn't agree more!

@-davidolivares I wouldn't dream of forgetting you David! 😊
Nicely put, a rock nugget on a amazing album.
Classic queen before they got commercial.
Uh? This is taken from the same album as the phenomenally commercial Bohemian Rhapsody and You're My Best Friend.
Love it, but it always seemed like a track from a different album.
Probably the weakest track on this incredible album, but it's got some things to recommend it. It has a strut and pomp that is very Queen.
I'd give that honor to 'Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon', personally.
Owlstretchingtime.... See, told ya 🙂
Yeah. I appreciate your concern! 😉
Only track on this album I skip. Sounds like a paint-by-numbers 70s rock song. Even the band sounds bored to me. Every other track has much more going for it
Easily the worst song on A Night at the Opera

😂 sweet cheese: “you eat me up, you hold me down….”
