Sea sickness test!! LOL's Definitely not seas to pilot from the upper bridge in. You were right, this passage isn't a good one to share on TH-cam. Stay safe and Happy Holidays!
Great, you have many skils, do more cooking 👍 i love home made hot bread..i would eat full with no other food on the table when is just taken out if the oven 😅
it's funny, I've spent some time on paper charts plotting CPA, and just realized, not only do you need to do the same, but also, when you're on the wire, you need to remember to plot CPA for the big tin can following you!!!
Wait... FRENCH bread? not Portuguese Bread? Tautog is all over Maine to Cape Cod, too! I know most people think of it as mid Atlantic, but its a New England fish, too. Good texture for chowder. that looks like a really nice nasty weather treat, that meal. Well Done, Cap'n!
Thank you for watching Greg. The main thing is that we can increase or reduce speed, but the barge can only be speed up (I can't slow it down other than letting it come to a rest) CUOTO
Funny fact. I never saw a striped bass growing up on the island until I got to Rhode Island. Now there is nothing but striped bass in the gulf of Maine.
Well now Tim, you are a chef too. Very good to watch you cooking. Nice to hear that you learned a bit from your Mom. Thanks for an interesting different kind of at sea video.😊
Hi Tim mate I’m not a sea lover I get sea sick I’m a land lover,,but I enjoy watching you at work as a lad we went to Europe by shit in 1959 and it took 31 days and I was sick most of the time ,my mum and two sisters spent 31 days in ship hospital ….But I love watching ships and open ocean on TV cheers from,Australia ❤️🙏😃👍🦘🇦🇺🇺🇸
Wow! That sounds horrible. I can't believe you'd ever even look at anything wet again after that ordeal. Cheers 🍻 Thank you very much for watching Jess. CUOTO
Used the engine room on our Whitby 42 (sailboat) MANY times while cruising to get the bread dough to rise! Nothing better than fresh bread warm from the oven!!
Great video Capt a bit of everything in this one. you calendar behind you in the beginning of the clip was acting as a pretty good roll indicator, Looked like a really great chowder. CUOTO
Thank you for watching Jeffrey. I actually find it harder to rise the dough in hot humid climates than colder ones. But maybe it's just an adjustment thing. CUOTO

Fresh, hot, homemade bread and homemade chowder! That would lift the spirits of any crew. My mother made chowder with a "shoulder of haddock" when she could get it from the butcher. It was the best dish she made. And, I played cribbage with my Dad constantly growing up. A lot of happy memories stirred up by this weeks video. I thankee.
Thank you very much for watching. But please don't rely solely on AIS and Navionics in reduced visibility. You may run into someone that doesn't have an AIS transmitter. CUOTO
When I moved a boat down your coast we had chowder from the yacht club at Safe Horbour, Portsmouth Rhode Island. It was so good we took two quarts with us too 😁👍🏼
'Ole Audiophile to TimBatSea: You caught me unawares with your skill in the galley. I'm a retired production cook from a 900 bed hospital. You did not embarass yourself pal. I've trained litterally hundreds from -0-, one of the tricks I've learned is to hand a fledgling an onion, then watch. You would have scored a near perfect score in the onion dept & that would have indicated much. How am I not surprised? Thanx...chef
Thank you very much David! You have no idea how much that means to me. My mother (a classically trained chef) who has been gone for a few years now, would have cried with joy reading this. Thank you very much. CUOTO
Love this!!! Smiles all around!!! It's awesome to see some good cooking and to see crew happy. Life is not about just the tug and what happens with the tug. People are involved, and it's great to see the peps all because of a cooL Capt!!! A+!!! Thanks!!! 👍🏻👍🏻😎😎😎
I wonder if that Tautog is the same as Blackfish in New England… I’ve heard them called both names…. Anyways, I don’t remember any baguettes on a different voyage around Hatteras… just sayin… 😂 Was that a proper Rhode Island Chowdah? “Oh Peeetah” in my best Lois Griffin accent. Great Video!! #CUOTO
😂😂😂 Thank you very much for watching and supporting the channels Ian! Ask Rune about me making chowder that got lost all over the galley when we took a hard wave. He spent days cleaning that stuff up when we got to Florida. It was decomposing pretty good by then. 😂 CUOTO
Actually the calendar in the background showed how you were rolling in the beginning of the video. enjoy your Holliday's even though your probably working.
It takes good sea legs with all of that rolling. I went on a cruise in the western Caribbean a few years ago with my family and a storm followed us from Miami south to Honduras. I had to go to the sickbay the next morning because all three of them were seasick. My dad served on a destroyer in the Korean War and had been through typhoons and winter storms in the northern Pacific so I was surprised it bothered him. Cruise ship stabilization systems are usually pretty good but it was a strong storm.
Those computers are nice in calculating all that stuff. I've spent many hours working the Maneuvering Board calculating and measuring that stuff manually. When you are towing on the wire closely, do you ever encounter problems with RADAR recovery range? Merry Christmas to you and your crew. Do you decorate your boat? No comment on the food as I too am trying to lose tonnage.
Thank you for watching and Merry Christmas to you as well. I am not familiar with radar recovery range. And while in NYC there were many boats lit for the season, us offshore guys usually don't decorate because everything gets soaked in salt water. CUOTO
most Thursday nights, my son and I get together to play crib. He is in Seattle and I am in Calgary, Alberta. We play an online version called Cribbage Pro. and even though its not as good as sitting across the table from each other with the real thing, it is a good substitute. BTW, that meal looked amazing. I am a real bread and soup guy, no better meal out there.
Thanks for the admittance to the wheelhouse Tim, that's a great radar you have, sooo much better presentation than my 15yo black and white. And the "chowda" and fresh bread looks delish. Feliz Navidad e Feliz Ano Nuevo!
Hi Captain Tim! I can see the rolling from the calendar on the wall behind you. I guess under really foggy conditions, when you tune your radar like that, any fiberglass or wooden vessel that does not have a good radar reflector on it would end up being almost invisible, right? I recently cooked up a batch of New England Clam Chowder. If I could, I would email some to you. I'm going to try following your bread making procedure. I might be simple, but somehow it just makes sense to me. The Basil makes sense to me too. Thanks for posting this different aspect of Tug Life, I appreciate it. CUOTO
Thank you for watching and supporting the channels Mellissa. Got to love a good chowder, clam or fish! Good luck with the bread. Let me know how it comes out. CUOTO
I read a book about the Apollo program from the perspective of the astronauts and they mentioned something about their sequestered stay at the Cape in the weeks before launch. They had a cook from a Navy tug and he made a bunch of tasty (and high calorie) meals for the boys.
Watching your tug video's I have come to think I would really like your job, but I don't know if I could take all the movement in the galley without seeing the horizon. I have never had a problem, but many people I have sailed with have gotten sick on the boat, even with seeing the horizon.
When you said you were bringing another product back to NY, does the barge need to be cleaned prior to loading the next product? Liked the cooking portion of the video, not a cook but sounds like something I might try, but I said that before. Happy Holidays!
Thank you for watching. There is clean oil and black oil. You can freely swap between products as long as you stay in the "clean" or "black" product line. CUOTO
If the tow line broke in the fog at the same time the radar packed in you'd have a fun job trying to find the barge again:-) In rough weather do you guys or the barge guys have the easier time of it?
Thank you for watching Julian. We should notice if we lost the barge and we have a few radars for redundancy. But the barges also have private trackers we can see (non AIS). As far as the ride is concerned, I think we'd all prefer fog over seas, but it is much more stressful. Always worried some little boat or small or non existent radar target shows up right in front of us. CUOTO
Hi Tim. I just recently returned to your channel. I was subscribed before (If I remembered correctly???) but I think I lost track of you a few months back - possibly on one of TH-cam's 'House Cleaning' activities. Anyway, I'm back on-board and enjoying your videos. I just want to add that, though I'm no real mariner, I do enjoy your videos. So here's all the best to you and your crew. Garth PS: I almost forgot, I reeeeeealllllllyyyy enjoy your Intro music. Good Funky Jazzy stuff.
yeast grows twice as fast for every 17 degrees rise or half as fast for every 17 degrees fall. Once you get to 38F it pretty much stops... of course by the time you get to 140F it dies. I try to stay less than 110F. I don't know how much this info matters, bread making is always "do something until" with time being an estimate at best. Yea I can smell the bread, not yours but mine ;) Have a good one.
Silly question, I suppose but you mentioned visibility was so poor (reduced) that you could not see the barge. Would you know ‘immediately’ if the wire (somehow) parted in these conditions? …
Thank you for watching. Actually, although I have not experienced it myself, there are plenty of stories of the tug sailing away unaware that they lost the barge. CUOTO
Is the connection between tug and barge rigid or can it jacknife . the picture on the radar shows the barge a way behind so I am wondering if it can stray from straight. Really appreciate your cookery lesson 😊
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel. It depends on the configuration. We try to be Ridgid in push gear or alongside but not while towing. CUOTO
Thanks for answering my questions. I don't use sophisticated electronics... But, when you were crossing traffic that was inbound to port, I assume that you'd be the give way vessel in that situation. Since AIS can predict where the target will be given it's current heading, do you program an autopilot to make the most efficient route around the traffic? Do you care? Also, I'm studying again and I like to apply what I can learn in real life... So, when you're maneuvering around and trying to keep a barge from hitting something, do you get RAM status and do you ever mention or have already made videos where you talk about when you would and wouldn't display day shapes and lights. Thanks for the help
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel. We are not considered a RAM or restricted in to ability to maneuver vessel. We work up our own routes. I have made videos talking about day shapes. CUOTO
Thank you for watching Christopher. Yes and no. There is clean oil and black oil. You can switch from any clean oil to black oil, but not the other way around. ) Gasoline and diesel are clean oils while bunker and asphalt are black oils). CUOTO
As someone who hasnt spent any time at sea, other than a couple fishing trips. How would you recommend one finds a job at sea? What jobs would you suggest, what jobs would you stay away from?
Why does TH-cam keep "messin" with the interface?! Right now the "Like" button is acting like a dislike. I can'r tell if it has registered my like or notThe numbers in the Like and Views have not been 'real' for several weeks, they just spin at random times. DUH! Thanks for the cooking tips! Too bad we don't have virtual smells!
@@edswider9309 I think it has been restored to its latest behavior mode. It again shows the correct 'thumbs up' icon. As long as we can still get Capt Tim's vids, I can fergit any rough seas' YT sends this way. 🤪
Don’t need the horizon…the calendar behind you is a pretty good declinometer. 😁
True. Thank you for watching. CUOTO

@@TimBatSea Wow, that must be embarrassing. Here's hoping you continue to avoid such an experience ...
Are there tanker men on the tanker during the long transits? Like up to NY?
Thank you for watching. It depends on the time of year. (No Tankerman on barge around Hatteras during hurricane season).
CUOTO
3d channel suggestion: TimBattheBoulangerie.
😂😂😂😂 Thank you very much for watching Jim. CUOTO
Can a barge haul different products? Like once it hauled gasoline then emptied could it haul bunker fuel
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel. You could start by watching my video "How to work on a Tugboat". CUOTO
Thank you for watching. I'm not sure what the problem is or how to fix it. But I'm glad you liked the video. CUOTO
Ok it’s happening to me too so it’s not me I just keep clicking great
@@edswider9309 I think it has been restored to its latest behavior mode. It again shows the correct 'thumbs up' icon. As long as we can still get Capt Tim's vids, I can fergit any rough seas' YT sends this way. 🤪
what the work cycle on long trips 4 or 6 hrs on or off do another captain relieve you
Thank you for watching. We work 6 and 6. I am relieved by my mate. CUOTO
It's a good I don't get seasick. I bet you lost A FEW people with that overhead shot swinging the cabin.
Thank you for watching Thomas. CUOTO
