To add more confusion: I like the under chin mount (Skills with Phil style). It lets you get a lower pov so that things don't look too flat, but we still get to see where you are looking when you turn your head and the stability of the head mount

But it looks ridiculously dumb and dangerous... it even surpasses the top of helmet 'teletubbies' look as the silliest looking cam mount option.

Without doubt one of the most watchable mountain bikers on youtube. We've all laughed at ourselves when we've come off a feature that made us wobble, even the pros do it 😄👍😎

I like the chest mount just because it shakes and it gives you an idea how rowdy it actually is

Usually use a chesty when I ride flow/jump trails where the terrain isn't rough because less thing makes shake
When I ride trail like this in the video I use the chin mount, the had gives the extra steady to the GP hyper smooth
    Cheers

Would definitely have to agree, not the smartest move to ride those trails, in the wet, by yourself, but as usual, great riding. Best looking Remi I know, beautiful pup with the most amazing eyes.

I actually love the helmet cam, to me it feels like I can see the trail better and what to expect when I go out riding. The other side is that people probably like the cockpit view and can see what you're doing with your bars more. I don't think you'll ever make everyone happy. Probably an even 50/50 split! Do what works for you! :)

Yo Yoann, the secret to a steady chestcam is an extra strap around your chest that goes across the top of the chest mount plate, it has to be a stretchy strap though so you can breath. Great video btw. Peace.

I’m confused because the video is butter smooth in the older episodes with the chest cam. Hopefully you can sort that out because it didn’t seem to be an issue.

  • @ChickenChopper1

Great stuff as always! I think the helmet cam gives a better point of reference than the chest mount. Props for doing that slab in the wet on Rodeo Rose, I always do the easier rolls instead.

I think the better GoPro chest Mount with the big padding helps a lot with the shaking brother but either way I’m watching!!
I do prefer the chest Mount over the top of the helmet.

Are the younger guys on the team riding their Megatrails in mullet setup? I know the Era is 29er only, but I can see they have the tall headset cup. Or are they running 27.5 with 29er fork and the tall cup to offset the axle-crown difference? Are you having them run them in the 155mm Trail (more progressive) setting?
I run a Megatrail mullet with EXT myself too, so interested to see how others are running a similar setup.

Chest mount probably gives a better view but to make it not really shake you need a gimbal which is bulky and $$. Chin mount/head mount adds a lot of stabilization without needing a gimbal.

    • @hobmarg

If the reach is long enough, and you run a reduced offset fork then yep short stem. This way you get the benefits of a long bike (stability, room fore/aft on the bike) and the handling/steering benefits of a shorter stem vs. traditional 60-70mm whatever length stems.

Tip for the chest mount: do the straps up as tight as they go. Feels a little uncomfortable at first but it makes it the most stable and has the least shake.

Hey Yoann, super stuff as always! I really enjoy the way you mix it up 🤘. A tech-related question if I may on the brakes. I just took delivery of TRP DH Evo's and I was wondering what your prefferred bed-in process is? I dread the whole 30 runs @ 15-30kph way and was wondering if that was necessary with the Evo's. Thanks 🤙

490mm reach! I'd be in a plank position on that bike!
Neat to see an air spring version of progressive spring rate. How does progressive spring rate compare to adding compression damping adjustment? Are there suspension out there that utilizes progressive compression damping circuits?
I really like the insight into racer mindset of "Jumping and skipping a feature is safer than riding it."
