    Hey Tom, thank you for your continued unique content!
    I enjoy your content very much, keep up the good work my friend.
    The background is the same as Jimmy Calandra’s background.
    I always thought Jimmy had a piano in his living room, lol!

    This was a really informative interview. Seriously. I learned a number of things. I had no idea that's how the Decav's got the label "farmers." Until now I thought it was derogatory. They had contacts in Moscow 😳? And people in Sicily? Some killer named Moose slicing a mans face in a restaurant? A presence in Vegas? This was a genuine Cosa Nostra family. And that story about an NYC cop tracking mobsters into New Jersey and going all the way over to Sicily, how is NOT made into a Hollywood movie? The info about the FBI and battles over his book etc. just all informative.
    I have NO idea how anyone does undercover work. None. I don't have the nerves and courage for that.

    Tom any chance you could try to reach out to Bruce Cutler and have him on? I bet that would be a great interview. Also- there’s a former Bonnano solider named Joe Barone Jr who spent 18 years as an informant in the family and who’s father was tracked down and killed by the Genovese family in Honduras (because they thought he was a rat) - he would be another great guest. He’s done other shows but you should check him out.

  • @BostonsF1nest
    @BostonsF1nest 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You gotta get the agent who worked the case that had the informant made into the Bonnano’s up in Canada on. Greg something

    I don’t get why a good Portion isn’t/ wasn’t talked about with the family being divided .With major friction between two factions. That should be talked about at length FOR SURE. It happen with that family 10/15 years before also with Charlie Majuri, Vitabile, Vinny Ocean etc

    Tom & Giovanni, subconsciously, I realize seconds or minutes afterwards (thought or statement I make), I think of Italians/Sicilians as BIG gangsters. That and Italian culture as more or less one with the mafia.
    When I was recently blown away, shocked, to find out Phoenix; Atlanta; and SEATTLE! (how the f__k Seattle!) all have Italian populations larger than Milwaukee's one of my IMMEDIATE thoughts was, "Seattle and Atlanta don't have their own mafia families, so, how can their Italian population be larger than Milwaukee's?" It took some seconds or minutes for me to challenge my own thoughts that the 2 DON'T have to go together. And yet subconsciously I STILL connect the two 😕. I guess I must know how 1960s raised white, racist down South must have struggled with their thoughts about blacks. Lastly, as a sidebar to that, I was genuinely shocked (and wrong) to find out Chicago has the 3rd largest Italian population in the USA! Why was I shocked? Because Italians on the East Coast can never shut up about being Italian. They are loud about it. Then you have TV shows like Jersey Shore. I just ASSUMED New Jersey had more Italians than Chicago 😳. Well that's what happens when one relies only on assumptions. Those Chicago Italians appear to be not so "loud" about being Italian. Like the Italians of Brazil... another place to shock me to have a massive Italian population. I actually asked Brazilians online why Brazil doesn't have the mafia, given the large Italian population in Brazil? Years later I can see the ignorance in that question. Only partially 👀.

      There’s no chance in hell there’s more Italian Americans in Chicago than New Jersey. Chicago might have more than any city in NJ because it’s already a big city in general but NJ has way more per capita than anywhere in Illinois

    • @NewTheoryMagazine

      @@BostonsF1nest, I mispoke. I meant more than any city in New Jersey. But damn... New Jersey in geographical size is a small a$$ state. I didn't realize how small until I googled up the size of Cuba and New York State yesterday. New Jersey is only around 9,000 sq miles. New York state is over 300,000 sq miles and Cuba over 40,000 sq miles. But then there are probably a few European countries the size of New Jersey. 🤷
      (Edited: correcting wrong numbers for New York & New Jersey States.)

    • @BostonsF1nest
      @BostonsF1nest 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@brewcity2317 Massachusetts is roughly the same size as New Jersey but both have a considerable amount of ppl who live there and two of the highest number of Italian American populations. What makes those populations even more dense is that with both NJ and MA only about half the state has ppl living in it. Way more ppl in northern NJ and on the coast and more in eastern MA and on the coast. I’d even go so far as to say that Boston has the last real Italian neighborhood in the US in the North End. NYCs Little Italy is way more prominent however the North End feels more Italian and still has a lot of the same roots that made it such a unique place to live 40-50 years ago. Springfield and Worcester also have two of the biggest Italian American populations in the US if I’m not mistaken.

    Tom i dont understand how if Giovanni grew up around wiseguys and their kids including sleep overs at capo"s houses and working in a kitchen where he saw a guys face get filleted..how does he then manage to change his name and pretend to be "Giovanni Gatto" with these guts not recognising him and saying..i know that guy he is a cop.
    So whilst i enjoyed the interview and content its just a little hard for me to comprehend how he pulled it off...without one of the kids from the old neighborhood coming accross him and putting an end to it all by blowing his cover.

    Damn lol! Ive always since i first started driving at 16 and a half, have had an eagle eye for cops lol! I can see a cop from a mile away and at night i can recognize a cops headlights whether they're in their crown vic's, Taurus, and especially the explorer which most staties and town/city cops drive instead of the crown vics which they definitely still use lol. I forgot exactly how i can always tell from about 200 yards and i mean from way far away lol theres a difference between the civilian explorers and the cop ones. I believe the difference is theres either the inner parking light in a different place or theres an extra parking light. Its definitely the parking light thats the tell i just cant remember how i can tell cause i never explained it before. Anyways with that being said, the mobster who recognized him is one alert dude! Man thatd suck to have to be so paranoid that you have to constantly be on the lookout for undercovers to the point your looking at everyone driving around you and trying to make out what they look like to see if you think there cops or rival gangsters etc.
