- Hey Friends! A few weeks ago I took a trip the Memphis, Tennessee area to visit some family and do some antiquing. I had some GREAT finds and am excited to share with you some places to antique in West Tennessee!

My grandfather in his later years had scores, maybe hundreds, of old scroll cut puzzles - I love them! So much more beautiful and interesting than today's jigsaw puzzles.

i agree with your mom, the potty chair is cute but I think would be a hard sell. Maybe a flower pot.
I love the vintage print and oval frame. When I see the vintage postcards I always look through them, and usually end up buying a few. Love when the postage mark shows the year and that someone wrote on them. I agree with you on the flag, the history behind it and someone will love having it.

We had such fun on our excursions. Mel and I can always find something! I think that was a little vintage/antique desk set you found in Conway. Looked like a pencil/pen holder, note pad holder and an ink well holder. I hate you passed on it. ☹️ I think you missed out. 😉I’m still standing my ground in that potty chair. 😂

I did actually, just a quick pop in, didn't get any footage. My dad lives in Collierville and I usually go every time I visit :)

I am glad that you were searching as well as browsing. I don't think I have seen any other decorator do that yet -- searching gives the show a focus. Searching for spring items conjures up the thought of pastels and delicate items, but you found some nice things for other seasons also!
-- My sister has a vintage chamber throne like the one you showed. It is in her big old farm house from the 1860's. When I visited her, I went around the many rooms looking for decorating ideas for her. It turns out that she also had a wash stand in the style of a pine "commode" with a cavity in the top for the bowl and pitcher, and a cupboard underneath for the chamber pot. I persuaded her to move them both into the little "dressing room" next to the modern bathroom.
-- We found a big white bowl in one part of the house, and a white pitcher in another part of the house, and put them on top of the "commode" wash stand, along with a vintage hand towel. We put chrysanthemums in the potty chair, and that made a nice display. But I am like you, I wouldn't think of getting such a thing. However, I do love a marble top wash stand with a towel rack because I have embroidered a lot of tea towels and have wanted one for a long time to hang them on.
-- Pairing an antique potty chair with a pretty wash stand embellished with bowl & pitcher, plants, bathroom art, embroidered towels, vintage nightie, comb & brush, perfume, razor and other toiletries would be the best way to pull it off.
I’m team should’ve gotten the potty chair. ❤ Thanks for the shop along, I go through Memphis from Hot Springs driving home to MD/DE. Sometimes I fly out of Memphis because it’s more economical to do so. I saved this for the next time I’m in the area I have locations to shop at. ❤
We've been to Dee's! I spied a fabulous red train case when you were looking at the milk glass toward the beginning of your video. I may have had to get that if I'd been there! You found some really wonderful items!!! So glad your mom enjoys junkin' with you!

In the south we decorate with what we love even though since I remodeled, I have gone with some white. But if it means something to us, we put it out. I love the crocks, churns and I just thrifted in my son’s attic which was my Mom and Dad’s hoise and in my storage building. He could make a killing if he had a thrift store.

I had a bad experience with a potty chair. When I owned a store, I had one and I had a kid to come in who actually used it. I didn't realize it until after they left. I said never again, for that reason I am team NO.

Yes I would have grabbed the chippy black painted p party, chair and $15 was a good buy I would’ve turned it in to a plant holder! Great video have a safe trip❤

It was enjoyable shopping along with you. It's so sad that you passed over the very rare Machlin ware wooden box, early in the video. It was a small wooden box with a transfer atop, only made in a small town in Scotland up until the early 1930's

Hi Melanie, You picked up some great pieces. Of course I loved the first shop with your mom that was beautifully curated. The black chippy potty just begs to have a fern put in it! The “cutter quilt” that was $30 (I think) would have been a great quilt to pick up. I loved the colors and pattern.

This was an awesome video…well they all are! But it was fun watching you and your Mom…my own mom was an antique dealer for years…that life…going through old stinky barns…the places she would drag me as a kid….ughhhh!! So I’ve been picking for as long as I can remember. And the last few years of her life…I’d drag her around in a wheelchair…the best memories! Grateful I finally have a booth of my own and a reason to still pick…so I always love hearing what you have to say, and seeing what you end up taking home for resale! Those quilts were a good find as were the vintage artwork/prints…loved those!! That’s what I look for to put in my booth in central Illinois…you are right about the artwork being hard to find…the potty…it was pretty cool…I probably would have taken…yep…for the summer and make a planter out of it! Love going to Tennessee…gotta get back down there!😁❤️

FYI: If a flag is torn and in terrible condition, it should be destroyed. Saw a couple of items you overlooked, but that is easy to do. Milk glass doesn't move well in my booth, but I still keep it to do a red, white and blue shelf for the 4th or white and red for Christmas. Thanks for the tour.
Everyone keeps saying milk glass is making a comeback & a lot of resellers claim they’re selling more of it. Maybe it’s just different depending on locations?
The United States Flag Code states: "The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning." The Flag Code does not actually give specifics on how to destroy the flag.

Like the Northwest Arkansas area, too. My oldest sister lived in Mountain Home until she passed in 2014. My niece is there now.

My first thought about the potty chair was the same as your Mom's. But then I thought if you thought there was something in the piece, I'd give it a chance. So I thought it could be used for a planter...just set a pot in the opening:) Hope your Mom's ok.
Aww, thank you! She is ok, recovering from having both her knees replaced last year. We did a LOT of walking on our first day out so she just needed a break on our second day :)

Wow to the open market store. They have really changed it for the better! We come through Corinth, MS twice a year and stopped going to it because it’d become a junky, smelly, leaky, flea market place. Thanks to this video, we will add it back on to a place to stop.😊

Not the potty chair!
Next time you're in Memphis, you need to visit Southern Vintage in Bartlett. It's the best in Memphis, and you'll want to save several hours for it. I'm on team Potty Chair.
For several years, patriotic was my decorating theme based on several pieces of an embrodiered quilt with different patriotic scenes. So I used a lot of flags all sizes and materials. I don't know why decorating in a way of honoring our country would bother anybody. Recently I found a memorial flag still graveside folded at the BINS!. I felt like crying that it ended up there and would end up in the landfill, so I bought it. I was trying to think who I could donate it to, and my husband(a veteran)suggested my grandson's private school BINGO! So I asked the principal if he was interested, and he said sure, they'd find a use for it. So he stopped me one morning in drop off and said they were putting it on the wall in the lunchroom. They did the pledge and prayer every morning and they didn't have a flat. I was thrilled.
I actually have been there several times and know a few of the vendors :) It's a great store, been awhile since I've made it over there but will put it back on my list :)
I am so glad you rescued it! With veterans in my family, I can understand the "rules" that go into properly handling old flags. I think they heart of it is to keep damaged or unwanted ones winding up in the trash or in the bins, like what you found! But I also feel personally ok about using them in my own home and decor because I think it fits the heart of the matter, which is making sure they are enjoyed and treasured :)

I'm curious about the Chinoiserie that you say was popular there. Might it be there is so much in the shop because it ISN'T selling? Or do you keep an eye out for purchases of the folks there? If the flag is torn or ripped, it should be disposed of properly- VFW, American Legion, etc will do that.
