Get Crafty: Creating Primitive Rustic Home Decor with Thrift Store Finds!

Today I am sharing some beautiful primitive rustic home decor craft ideas using items I picked up at the thrift store!
Even if primitive and rustic decor isn't your style, you'll still get some crafting inspo with some of the fun techniques I use that you can apply to your own crafting style!
These are budget-friendly crafts using thrift store finds, or items you might already have on hand.
The possibilities are endless with the techniques I share in this video to apply on a variety of surfaces to create vintage primitive style containers and jars to use on your coffee bar, hutch or shelves.

COFFEE GRUNGE
1 cup hot water
1/2 cup instant coffee
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
Mix together. Store in refrigerator when not using.
Let it come to room temperature and give it a shake/stir before using.

I have made prim jars and cans from literal garbage. Pickle jars, vegetable cans etc. Great way to upcycle. I use coffee grunge mixture and sprinkle cinnamon. If you use instant coffee and mod podge together and paint it on, it gives it a deeper color and texture. I love making prim crafts.

Hi Jenn, what great diys. I love them all, but my favorite is the last one. The lamp. I save all my jars and tins that would make good diys. There is a channel I love to watch. She does a lot of a coffee grunge. Diys, her channel is My Sweet Home Living with Tracey Campbell. I love all you do Jenn. This was one of my favorite. I have been going through box's, trying to get rid of a lot of stuff. And I have a set of 3 of the tins with the Geese on them. I put them in the give away box, but not I going to get them out. Lol. My favorite is also the square tin. Great job! When I go thru my tubs to downside I always regret it later on. I had so many tins! I'm pretty sure that I still have a few.

You can use either PVA or school glue in the place of modpodge and get those effects. I love how you did these. I had some of those exact tins, but they got lost when I moved, but, I have several other tins that I can up cycle into these.

All of the pieces fit in nicely with the vignette you put together at the end. I love the black lamp and what a great accidental discovery putting it together with the little jar. Your nails always look perfectly manicured, but I must say that I loved seeing you "playing in the dirt"!!😂

Repurpose My Way is another you tuber that does primitives also, she uses a combination of spices AND coffee for her rustic material along with the mod pods. I think she calls it her grunge mixture.
Yes! I love the combo. I’ve been sharing crafts using those items for years. I love the texture it creates in projects.
How do you stop the paint from chipping off the rim of the can when you take the lid on & off?
I have tried just about every sealer there is to keep it from chipping and/or the lid sticking. I usually end up throwing away the lid because it never works no matter what I do.😢
Hi! I don’t usually have a problem however I’m usually not taking the lids on and off a lot for any chipping to occur. I usually just use these to tuck on shelves to be decorative.
