In 1968 Graham Ramshaw from Perth Football Club won a national kicking competition with a distance of 88 yards (80 metres), and I've seen him and others kick further.
That was into a breeze mate, I remember kicking a few snags from about 50 in the 80's. I remember launching one at training from 50 that went about 5 metres passed the goals. I am only 5 ft 7 so I did ok for a rover.

Blight was in front of the centre square line when he kicked the ball. That line is 52.5 metres from goal Adding the angle he was on, he would have been less than 55 metres from goal. Still it was a great kick. The previous genuine long kicks in the last 30 years are Darren Bennett, Ben Graham, Saverio Rocca ( all NFL players) and Dustin Fletcher. As for Barry Cable, every fucking chance he can kick 70 metres. Just ask anyone who watched him play.
